Will the Jacksonville Jaguars make the 2020 NFL playoffs?

Yes: +800 | No: -1429

On paper, the Jaguars look like one of the worst teams in the NFL. They’ve made moves this offseason that suggest they don’t plan to compete much in 2020, trading CB A.J. Bouye and DE Calais Campbell, while also shopping RB Leonard Fournette at one point.

The AFC South may not be strong, but the conference as a whole will keep Jacksonville out of the playoffs – even with an additional postseason berth available in 2020.

The Jaguars are not going to make the postseason unless QB Gardner Minshew or Fournette has an MVP-type season, which is highly unlikely. Bet NO (-1429) on them making the playoffs, but a $10 bet will return a profit of just $0.70. There is much better value with our suggested bets mentioned below.

How many games will the Jacksonville Jaguars win in 2020? Bands

BAND ODDS
0-4 Wins +100
5-8 Wins -125
9-12 Wins +2200
13-16 Wins +100000

The Jaguars are fortunate to have the Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins on their 2020 schedule, but all of those teams should be much-improved since last season. None of them are surefire wins for Jacksonville, nor is any other game on the schedule.

The Jags won five and six games in the last two seasons, which seems to be a reasonable prediction for the upcoming campaign. I’m torn between 0-4 wins (+100) and 5-8 wins (-125) because their most likely range is 4-5 wins, making this a tough bet.

I’ll put some faith in Minshew and suggest 5-8 WINS, hoping Jacksonville can take care of the easier portion of its schedule. The same $10 bet on this win band will fetch a profit of $8.

How many games will the Jacksonville Jaguars win in 2020? Exact number

Unsurprisingly, four and five wins have the same odds at +255, the favorites of any exact win total. It’s hard to decide between the two but since we went with the 5-8 win band, we’ll take 5 WINS (+255) here for a profit of $25.50 on a $10 bet.

The Jaguars can find wins on their schedule, but it’s going to be a matter of stealing a win or two in the division, and beating the bad teams they’re set to face in 2020.

8 QBs with astonishingly good records against the Jaguars

When looking at their history, there simply are some quarterbacks who the Jags have struggled mightily against and Peyton Manning is one.

In the NFL, it’s all about wins and sometimes those wins can be hard to come by.

While wins and losses are attributed to the execution of the team overall, the quarterback is mostly seen as the one that bears the most responsibility obtaining the victory or be charged with the loss. They are also judged by their record whether fair or unfair.

In the case of the Jacksonville Jaguars, there are a few quarterbacks that own very interesting records in head-to-head contests with them. Here are five quarterbacks with some highly noticeable records against the Jags:

Note: The list will be a mixture of great quarterbacks but also the unlikeliest of quarterbacks that own a winning record against the franchise.

8. Paxton Lynch (1-3 in career, 1-0 vs. the Jags)

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Let’s start things off with an interesting name nobody knew had a win against the Jags: Paxton Lynch. While some of the quarterbacks on this list will be Hall-of-Famers when they retire, the same likely won’t be said about the former Denver Bronco.

Lynch hasn’t had the career that was expected when he was selected with the 26th overall pick out of The University of Memphis garnering a 1-3 record in his career. Unfortunately for Jaguars fans, his one victory would come at Jacksonville’s expense as the Broncos would defeat the Jaguars by a score of 20-10 in 2016.

Injuries and overall ineffectiveness caused Lynch to not start a game since 2017 where he would lose his next two starts. Lynch is now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers where he is on a two-year, $1.38 million contract.

What would an NFL offense look like comprised of only Texas Longhorns?

The Texas Longhorns have produced a plethora of offensive talent over the years. So what would an offense of only Longhorns look like?

The Texas Longhorns have provided plenty of NFL talent over the years, but a large portion of that talent came during the Mack Brown era. It wasn’t just Brown that produced NFL talent, as the first Longhorn ever drafted dates all the way back to 1938 when Hugh Wolfe was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round.  Other big names include Bobby Layne, Tom Landry, Tommy Nobis, Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams, Vince Young and many more.

Manny Rubio-USA TODAY Sports

Given the amount of Longhorns that have made the jump to the NFL and AFL, we were curious what an offense of former Texas players would look like in the NFL today. We used players from the XFL as well to fill out the starters. So let’s get started with the quarterback.

Collin Johnson projected as the No. 6 receiver on Jags depth chart

Former Texas receiver Collin Johnson will have to work his way up a steep depth chart in Jacksonville.

Unlike Devin Duvernay where he’s expected to land a starting role immediately, former Texas receiver Collin Johnson will have to work his way up the depth chart. Continue reading “Collin Johnson projected as the No. 6 receiver on Jags depth chart”

2020 AFC South Division Predictions: Best bets for who will win and exact standings

Looking at the NFL betting odds to win the AFC South Division in 2020 and predicting the exact order of the standings.

The Houston Texans won the AFC South Division in 2019, but will they be able to repeat? Below, we look at the BetMGM betting odds for the AFC South Division in 2020 and make our best bets for who’ll win the division title and predict the exact order of the division standings.

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Odds last updated Wednesday, May 20 at 1:20 a.m. ET.

2020 AFC South Division bets: Who will win?

Here are the odds for first place in the division.

  • Indianapolis Colts +130
  • Tennessee Titans +160
  • Texans +280
  • Jacksonville Jaguars +1400

The Texans took a step back by trading WR DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. Houston did not have a first-round draft pick, but added WR Brandin Cooks in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams. However, the Colts made an upgrade at the most important position, signing QB Philip Rivers. They already have a talented defense, solid receivers and now have a one-two punch at running back with Marlon Mack and Jonathan Taylor, a 2020 second-round pick out of Wisconsin. The Titans re-signed QB Ryan Tannehill after he helped them catch fire late in last season. However, Rivers makes the Colts a complete team. Take the COLTS (+130) to win the division.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Colts to win the AFC South will return a profit of $13 if they do so.

2020 AFC South Division bets: Who will finish second?

Here are the odds for second place.

  • Colts +180
  • Titans +180
  • Texans +220
  • Jaguars +900

The division should be competitive between three teams. For second place, do you take the Titans and believe in Tannehill or trust Deshaun Watson to carry the Texans? The feeling is that Texans coach Bill O’Brien is trending downward with his roster decisions. Tennessee is trending up. Take the TITANS (+180) for an $18 profit on a $10 wager.

2020 AFC South Division bets: Who will finish third?

Here are the odds for third place.

  • Texans +155
  • Titans +250
  • Colts +255
  • Jaguars +500

With the Colts and Titans already pegged to finish in the top two, this decision is easy. The Jags look like they will be perhaps the worst team in the league. Take the TEXANS (+155) for a $15.50 profit on a $10 bet.

2020 AFC South Division bets: Who will finish fourth?

Here are the odds.

  • Jaguars -385
  • Texans +525
  • Titans +1000
  • Colts +1100

This decision is a lock. It won’t profit much, but the best bet is the JAGUARS (-385) where a $10 bet would profit $2.60.

2020 AFC South Division bets: Exact order of standings

With the exact standings finishing Colts-Titans-Texans-Jaguars, the prop is +400 – where a winning bet pays 4 to 1.

If UGA was fielding a starting team based on current NFL players, here’s what it would look like

We assembled a starting lineup full of former Georgia football players who are currently on NFL rosters.

Georgia continues to be one of college football’s leading producers of NFL talent, with seven players being taken in the 2020 NFL Draft.

At almost every position does Georgia have an NFL star — linebacker and running back being the most notable.

From veteran passer Matthew Stafford to new Falcons back Todd Gurley, to rookie kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, former Georgia Bulldogs look to put up big numbers again in 2020.

We’ve gone through an exercise of picking the best at each position to field a starting team of former Georgia players, all from a current pool of those currently on NFL rosters.

Remember, free agents did not make the team.

So, let’s get it started shall we?

Joshua Dobbs rated as 25th best backup quarterback by CBS Sports

The backup quarterback has always been one of the most overlooked positions in football. Teams never know how much you need a serviceable backup until the starter gets hurt and if their plan B isn’t serviceable it could cost them important games.

CBS Sports recently released their backup quarterback power rankings and Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Joshua Dobbs found himself at No. 25 according to writer Sean Warner-McGough:

25. Jaguars’ Joshua Dobbs

Dobbs spent part of his offseason working at NASA. He majored in aerospace engineering at the University of Tennessee. I bring this up because Dobbs appears to have a very bright future after football. As for his future in football, it’s still unclear. He’s only thrown 12 passes in his entire career. That makes him better than the options listed before him. We know they’re bad quarterbacks. We suspect Dobbs isn’t good, but we don’t know for certain.

Dobbs will look to be the Jags’ backup quarterback behind Gardner Minshew II for a second year and will have to battle new free agent addition Mike Glennon this preseason to get the job. Dobbs was brought over in a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a fifth-round pick in 2019 after only seeing five games total of NFL action in 2018. Dobbs completed only six passes out of 12 for 43 yards during that time.

While the football world isn’t too sold on the Jaguars’ quarterback depth, they still ranked higher than teams such as the Seattle Seahawks, the Buffalo Bills and the Minnesota Vikings, all of which were teams that made the playoffs last season. Dobbs is still pretty young at 25 years of age, so time may only tell if he can fully transition into being a solid backup for the Jags.

The NFL released their official 2020 schedule last night, making it official when and where each rookie Badger will make their NFL debut.

Now diving deeper, here are games to circle for Badger fans on the newly-released schedule, ones which see head-to-head matchups between Wisconsin products both young and old.

  • September 13, 2020: Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars

Wisconsin legend Jonathan Taylor begins his NFL career against the Jaguar defense and middle linebacker Joe Schobert, a Badger from 2013-2015.

  • September 20, 2020: Denver Broncos at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Broncos and their newly-signed running Melvin Gordon travel to Pittsburgh Week 2 and face T.J. Watt and the Steelers’ defensive line.

Though the two were never teammates on the field in college, it is a matchup of two former Badgers who are both premier players in the league at their position.

  • September 27, 2020: Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints

Right tackle Rick Wagner and the Packers travel to New Orleans in Week 3 to battle against the Saints and their rookie linebacker Zack Baun.

Baun will be used all over the field for the New Orleans defense but his most likely role will be on the edge as a pass rusher. Though the Packers somehow only have one former Badger on their roster, this matchup should see their right tackle Wagner–a Badger from 2009-2012–face off head-to-head with the rookie Baun as he works to protect quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

  • September 27, 2020: Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots

This is one of my favorite matchups to watch as the Raiders and fullback Alec Ingold look to find success in the run game against the Patriots and defensive tackle Beau Allen, a Badger from 2010-2013.

  • October 11, 2020: Philadelphia Eagles at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers and newly-acquired fullback Derek Watt look to open up their ground game against an Eagles defense led at linebacker by former Badger T.J. Edwards.

  • October 25, 2020: Houston Texans at Green Bay Packers

Like the Packers’ Week 3 matchup against the Saints, their October 25 contest against the Texans will see Wagner trying to block a former Badger in J.J. Watt.

  • November 30, 2020: Seattle Seahawks at Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles and starting middle linebacker T.J. Edwards will look to slow down the Seahawks and Wisconsin legend Russell Wilson.

  • December 6, 2020: New York Giants at Seattle Seahawks

For the second consecutive week Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will stare down a former Badger across the line in Giants middle linebacker Ryan Connelly.

  • December 6, 2020: Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans

This is an intriguing matchup between two former Wisconsin legends in running back Jonathan Taylor and defensive end J.J. Watt.

Nobody really knows how the rookie Taylor will perform in the NFL but if his talent and college production is any indication, Watt will have his hands full when the Colts come to town in December.

  • December 10, 2020: New England Patriots at Los Angeles Rams

The Patriots and newly-signed defensive tackle Beau Allen look to get past Rams right tackle Rob Havenstein, a Badger from 2010-2014, and put pressure on quarterback Jared Goff.

  • December 27, 2020: Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers

The same story as the Colts’ December 6 contest in Houston, Taylor will look to finish his rookie year on a strong note as he faces the Steelers and former Badger T.J. Watt.

This list may change as the season progresses, as current depth options including Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus, Eagles running back Corey Clement, Cowboys center Tyler Biadasz, Panthers linebacker Chris Orr, Raiders cornerback Nick Nelson and others could move into starting roles and set themselves up for head-to-head matchups against fellow Wisconsin products.

Jaguars sign QB Mike Glennon

The Jaguars are signing quarterback Mike Glennon, adding depth behind Gardner Minshew.
Glennon has bounced around the NFL in recent years, spending time with the Bears, Cardinals and Raiders since 2017.
