North Carolina receives boost for next season as five-star guard reclassifies

The North Carolina Tar Heels received some big news on Tuesday morning in regards to their roster for next season.

The North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team received a big boost to their 2023-2024 fortunes on Tuesday as it was announced that five-star guard Elliot Cadeau will reclassify from the 2024 recruiting class to the 2023 recruiting class.

Cadeau’s decision doesn’t come as a huge surprise – rumors and speculation has been spreading that such a decision could be made for quite some time. Cadeau announced his decision on Twitter.

As pointed out by Tar Heels Wire, he’ll join a Tar Heel’ backcourt that includes R.J. Davis, Seth Trimble, Cormac Ryan, and Simeon Wilcher.

Cadeau is considered by most of the recruiting industry as a five-star prospect with Rivals ranking him the highest of any service, as the eighth-best player in the country.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound point guard plays for Link Year and is a native of Branson, Missouri. He committed to the Tar Heels over offers from Baylor, Kansas, Maryland, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas, and Texas Tech among others. He only took a pair of official visits in his recruitment, one to North Carolina and one to Texas Tech.

The Tar Heels are coming off a 20-13 season in 2022-2023 which included an 11-9 record in conference play. After starting the season as the No.1 team in the country, the Tar Heels failed to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009-2010. They’ll enter their third season under head coach Hubert Davis this fall. Despite this past season’s struggles, expect the Tar Heels to once again be among the top-25 teams in the country come next preseason and a Darkhorse title favorite.
