Why Oklahoma Will Win

The Sooners got it back.

This has been a grind of a year – losing five Big 12 games is never part of the plan – but easily getting by Oklahoma State for the 28-13 rivalry win was a huge help, at least the team’s going bowling, and now it’s about building for next year.

First they have to deal with the Texas Tech passing game. OU might give up plenty of yards, but it hasn’t allowed more than one touchdown pass in a game in over a month, the line is great at getting into the backfield, and the offense is working.

The passing attack has been good enough, the ground game has been great, and …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why Texas Tech Will Win

The Texas Tech passing game still leads the Big 12 even after dealing with the Iowa State defense in a 14-10 win.

Granted, everything has cooled over the last month, but the offense got the ground game working against Kansas and the D held on to slip past Iowa State to get bowl eligible.

Now it’s time to have fun. The first year under Joey McGuire has been a success, the offense has been adaptable enough to find ways to keep everything moving, and now it’s about cranking up the points.

Texas Tech is 5-0 when scoring more than 31 points, but it might not need that many. Oklahoma is 1-5 when giving up more than 14, and …

Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Texas Tech will be balanced with the ground game going a bit against a Sooner defense that’s last in the Big 12 allowing 191 yards per game.

The offense will control the clock enough in the second half to hold on against the Oklahoma attack. It’ll be a back-and-forth fight with the Red Raider run defense struggling, and …

Texas Tech will hold on late. It’ll be a blast of an offensive show.

Kansas vs Texas Tech Game Preview

Why Kansas Will Win

The Jayhawks are bowl eligible after coming up with an impressive 37-16 win over Oklahoma State. It was fun, it was emotional, and now the team gets to play loose and free.

Now it’s fun time.

Kansas is able to keep the chains moving, it’s great on third downs, and it’s been steady with the passing attack. It might not be a defensive rock, but the offensive line play has been stellar and the defense is making up for problems by taking the ball away.

Texas Tech’s defense hasn’t been bad, but it’s losing when it’s having problems against the run.

It’s 1-5 when allowing over 100 rushing yards and 3-0 when it doesn’t. Kansas is going to run for 100 yards.

CFP Rankings: Think, Know, Believe

Why Texas Tech Will Win

The Texas Tech defense continues to take the ball away.

It hasn’t been all that great overall, but good things happen when it’s able to force mistakes, coming up with multiple takeaways in each of the last five games.

Kansas is going to get its offense going, and it’s going to put up consistent points, but it lost three in a row when it turned it over multiple times. Texas Tech is going to keep on throwing,

Kansas will give up over 300 passing yards and it’s going to have its own problems on third downs. As long as Texas Tech is able to come up with a few stops here and there and steal a few scoring drives with takeaways, it should be fine at home.

Schedules, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

This is going to be fun.

Both teams will crank up the offense, Texas Tech will play with a sense of urgency needing to win two of its final three games to get to a bowl game, and this will be one key piece.

Both teams will come up with big shots in a back-and-forth fight, but the Red Raiders will connect on a few more.

TCU vs Texas Tech Game Preview

Why Texas Tech Will Win

Poor Texas Tech. What’s the point of even showing up?

TCU is the hipster favorite to crash the College Football Playoff party with its high-powered offense and intimidating defense that’s making big plays – and knocking around quarterbacks – on a regular basis.

Poor, poor Texas Tech … if only the passing game could show up again after royally screwing up in the 45-17 loss to Baylor last week …

The offense is going to be a problem for the Horned Frogs. Throw for 300 on this D and the game is going to be tight.

TCU didn’t have to deal with Oklahoma’s Dillon Gabriel or Jalon Daniels of Kansas – it knocked both quarterbacks out of the respective games – and banged up the Kansas State quarterbacks.

However, it got pushed a bit by SMU allowing 372 yards in the 42-34 win. Now it’s up to the Red Raiders to start winging it around and put pressure on the TCU secondary from the start.

Breaking down the CFP Top 25 rankings

Why TCU Will Win

The Texas Tech quarterback situation is … interesting.

It has three viable options now after health problems early on, but it appeared to be Behren Morton’s gig after two great performances against Oklahoma State and West Virginia. Baylor had other ideas.

Morton couldn’t get anything going last week, threw three picks, Donovan Smith threw two passes with one interception, and Tyler Shough came in and threw two passes – one to each team.

It was an aberration for the high-powered passing team, but it exposed one potential issue – pass protection.

Baylor allowed six sacks, but that’s not new for this group. The line is the worst in the Big 12 in sacks and tackles for loss allowed. TCU doesn’t have too much of a pass rush, but it can generate pressure.

That, and …

Schedules, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

TCU doesn’t turn the ball over.

The O has given it up just six times all year, and the offense is in a wonderful groove that won’t stop against the Texas Tech defense that’s fine, not great.

This will be a fun shootout with both teams having their moments, but TCU will come through late with two big scoring drives to get out with a much, much tougher game than it might like.

Baylor vs Texas Tech Game Preview

Why Baylor Will Win

Just when the defending Big 12 champion appeared to be on the ropes, it came up with a great win over Kansas to get back in the mix with several big games coming up.

The offense might have a slew of turnover problems – more on that in a moment – but the defense clamped down hard on the Jayhawk running game and the O got its own ground attack going.

Part of the way to beat Texas Tech is to keep the high-powered offense off the field, and the Bears can do that – they lead the Big 12 in time of possession. More importantly in this, the secondary should bend, but it will take a lot to break.

However …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 8

Why Texas Tech Will Win

The Red Raider offense might have its guy.

Tyler Shough is reportedly healthy enough to play against the Bears, and Donovan Smith is getting better, but freshman Behren Morton has been terrific with two straight huge games. He’s got the arm and mobility to keep everything moving against a Baylor defense that doesn’t have much of a pass rush.

Or, it’s possible one of the other quarterback options sees time. No matter what, it’s a lot for Baylor to prepare for, and the production will be there.

Turnovers have been a problem for the Bear offense with eight in the last three games and with multiple giveaways in four of the last five games.

– Game Previews, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Texas Tech is a different animal at home. It lost the three road games at NC State, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State, and won all four home games so far.

Baylor will be able to keep up for most of the game, and it’ll have its chance to pull off the win late, but Texas Tech’s offense will be too productive at home. The passing game will work when it has to.
