Steelers work out Free agent TE Noah Gindorff

The Steelers continue to work out players with just days to final roster cuts.

According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Pittsburgh Steelers worked out free-agent tight end Noah Grindorff on Tuesday.

The Steelers currently have Pat Freiermuth, Zach Gentry and Darnell Washington on the roster. Not sure where Gindorff, a player with an injury history and only 44 career college receptions fits into the fold but you never know.

Gindorff was briefly on the Seattle Seahawks roster this Summer. It is hard to imagine there is a spot on the roster for him and with less than a week to final cuts, we aren’t sure what the point is. There are certainly spots where the Steelers could upgrade and you can look for Pittsburgh to keep a close eye on other team’s roster cuts for some players who could potentially upgrade depth positions on the roster.

Steelers vs Falcons: How much will QB Kenny Pickett play?

Do you want to see Steelers starting QB Kenny Pickett play in Thursday’s game?

On Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers starting offense is going to go out against the Atlanta Falcons and try to keep its perfect preseason streak alive. The Steelers starters have played three drives in two games and scored impressive touchdowns on all three.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was not ready to commit publicly to how much his starters including quarterback Kenny Pickett would play in the team’s final preseason game but he said he has a plan.

At this point, I’m not sure what else the Steelers coaches need to see out of Pickett and the rest of the offense especially when every snap is a chance for an injury. In addition, there are so many depth players still fighting for their spots, why not get them on the field a little sooner?

Cast your vote and let us know how much you think the Steelers starting quarterback will play this week. Our guess is it will be one series and done and give the backups extra reps but we can’t wait to hear from all of you.

Steelers vs Falcons: 6 Steelers we want to see more of this week

We want to see Nick Herbig and Darnell Washington going against the Falcons starters this week.

Thursday night the Pittsburgh Steelers will have one last shot to tune up before the start of the regular season. The Steelers travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons this week and make those final decisions about the 53-man roster.

There’s nothing that can replace game repetitions and for this group of Steelers, getting some reps this week could dictate where they fall on the depth chart or if they make the team. Here are the six guys we want to see more of against the Falcons.

5 Steelers on the roster bubble with 1 preseason game to play

Montravius Adams, Miles Boykin and Tre Norwood are three of the veterans still battling for a spot on the Steelers roster.

The Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Atlanta this week to take on the Falcons to kick off Week Three of the NFL preseason. So far, the Steelers starters have been exceptional on both sides of the football. The vast majority of the roster spots are locked up but there are still a few positions that could go either way.

We just updated our 53-man roster projection and from that, here are five veterans balancing on the roster bubble with just over a week to go.

Steelers RB Jaylen Warren named a Secret Superstar of Week 2 of preseason

Jaylen Warren got a 62-yard TD run in the Steelers preseason win over the Bills.

Our friends over at Touchdown Wire have put out their Week 2 Secret Superstars in the NFL and two of the Pittsburgh Steelers made the cut. In addition to EDGE Nick Herbig, running back Jaylen Warren also made TD Wire’s list.

Warren only had one carry on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills but he made the most of it as he burst to the outside and thanks to a great block by wide receiver Diontae Johnson, turned it into a 62-yard touchdown run on the first drive.

Here’s what TD Wire had to say about Warren’s performance:

Against the Bills on Saturday, Warren continued to impress with this 62-yard touchdown run against Buffalo’s starting defense. The bounce and acceleration shown here typify why some Steelers enthusiasts are a bit miffed about Warren’s workload in Matt Canada’s offense. Not that it was the biggest problem with Matt Canada’s offense in 2022, but the angst is real.

Warren made it obvious last season he’s deserving of more snaps and this offseason his production has a great number of pundits wondering if Warren should be the lead back in the offense. We aren’t quite ready to go that far but we are certainly excited to see more of Warren this season.

How many sacks will Steelers LB Nick Herbig have in 2023?

Nick Herbig has been the most impressive Steeler rookie through two preseason games.

A strong case can be made that the best rookie the Pittsburgh Steelers have through two preseason games is outside linebacker Nick Herbig. The fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin didn’t join the team with a lot of fanfare but his level of play has been impressive.

Herbig has 2.5 sacks over 40 snaps and two preseason games as well as four pressures and one forced fumble. He’s only allowed one reception for four yards and has a 22.7 percent pass-rush win rate.

This kind of production, even just in preseason, is enough that Pittsburgh will need to find a way to incorporate him into the outside linebacker rotation. Herbig has had the opportunity to learn from T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith and he has really improved since making the jump to the NFL.

So if we assume Herbig works into the rotation behind Watt and Highsmith with veteran Markus Golden, how many sacks will he finish the season with?

[crowdsignal poll=12664008]

Cast your vote and let us know. If I were to put a number to it and I will soon for all the defensive players with my pre-season predictions, I’d go with five sacks for Herbig as a situational pass rusher.

Steelers Twitter reacts to another excellent performance by QB Kenny Pickett

Kenny Pickett has been near-perfect through two preseason games and Twitter is talking about it.

Two preseason games, two great showings by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett. On Saturday night, Pickett came out with the first-team offense against the Buffalo Bills starters and was masterful.

In just two drives, Pickett led the team down to two quick touchdowns, putting Buffalo down 14-0 in a flash. This is a stark contrast to the Steelers offense of the past and a great sign for the 2023 season.

When Pickett plays well, Steeler Nation never hesitates to rally around him and scream it from the rooftops. Fans have taken to Twitter to share their excitement for Pickett and her are some of our favorite reactions.

Steelers RB Najee Harris not ready to praise teammate Jaylen Warren

There is certainly some tension coming from Najee Harris about the Steelers running back situation.

Well, that was awkward.

After the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Buffalo Bills 27-15 in Week Two of the preseason, starting running back Najee Harris spoke to the media. Mark Kaboly asked Harris to describe fellow running back Jaylen Warren which turned out to be a rather probing question based on how Harris replied as opposed to what he said.

Harris fumbled over his words and could only muster up “efficient” and then noted he wasn’t sure how to answer. He then went into a lengthy diatribe about the importance of the wide receivers in their run blocking.

This is telling from Harris’ standpoint. Clearly, he isn’t happy with the running back situation in the league and on his own team. But not being able to acknowledge the success his teammate is having just because they play the same position could turn into a problem down the road.

Harris had six yards on two carries Saturday and Warren had 62 yards and a touchdown on his only carry.

Steelers vs Bills: What we learned from Pittsburgh’s preseason win

We continue to be impressed with how well Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is playing.

In Week Two of the preseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Buffalo Bills at Acrisure Stadium 27-15 thanks to that explosive offense, a stifling defense and exceptional special teams.

Pittsburgh is still sorting out multiple starting spots on the roster as well as some vital depth as well. The Steelers now head to Atlanta on a short week to take on the Falcons in the team’s final warmup before the start of the regular season.

There was a lot to unpack after this game. Here are the big things we learned from this week’s game that the team can either build on or improve on against the Falcons.

Studs and duds from the Steelers preseason win over the Bills

Kenny Pickett and Pat Freiermuth were among the studs from Saturday’s win over the Bills.

On Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers welcomed the Buffalo Bills to Acrisure Stadium and finished with their second win of the preseason, beating the Bills 27-15.

The Steelers coaches continue to work on fine-tuning the roster, sorting through roster combinations to help determine how the final 53-man depth chart will look as well as several spots in the starting lineup.

Overall, the Steelers performed exceptionally well. The starting offense was incredibly efficient scoring twice in two drives, both with those all-important splash plays. The Steelers defense shut out the Buffalo starting offense and generated four turnovers.

But not every Steeler stepped up. Here are our studs and duds from Saturday’s game.
