Before the game took place, famed singer James Taylor performed the national anthem.

Arch Manning’s high school career ends as Newman is drubbed

A rough ending for Arch Manning’s great high school career

The legendary high school career of Arch Manning had a forgettable finale.

The heralded Texas recruit and his Newman teammates were clobbered in a playoff game by U-High, 49-13, on Friday.

The final quarter of his career was bad.

Manning completed 8 -f 21 passes overall for 96 yards with two interceptions and one lost fumble. One of the interceptions and the fumble were returned for touchdowns in the fourth quarter. He also had 19 rushes for 42 yards.

“Arch played his heart out. He ran all over the field. That’s a really good football team,” Newman coach Nelson Stewart said.

The interceptions were the first thrown by Manning in his senior season.

Arch Manning has quiet game as Newman falls to rival

A quiet game for Arch Manning as Newman takes a loss

Arch Manning and Newman ran into a tough team on Friday in Louisiana and came away with a 17-13 loss to St. Charles.

The much-heralded University of Texas recruit was 7-of-15 passing for 121 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions in the defeat.

Per Nola.com:

The Greenies answered quickly with their best drive of the night, covering 65 yards in eight plays. Anthony Jones ended the drive by hauling in a 37-yard pass in the end zone from Manning, but the snap on the extra point was off target leaving Newman down 17-13 with 4:52 remaining in the game.

What is West Toronto Prep, which lost 96-0 to IMG Academy in game called at the half?

IMG Academy 96, West Toronto Prep 0 ends at halftime

IMG Academy faced West Toronto Prep on Friday.

Not sure how the game came to be because it was a mismatch of epic proportions.

How epic? How about 96-0 at halftime when it was mercifully called?

And if you want to use this as a math lesson, here is how IMG got to 96.

West Toronto Prep is 0-6 and has been outscored 291-6.

Seems like West Toronto Prep might be the 2022 version of Bishop Sycamore. And no one bothered to research this at a nationally ranked school like IMG?

Pennlive.com did a story on West Toronto Prep, and the supposed challenges it faced since the pandemic, in September:

“In our earlier years, it wasn’t as much of a headache. We would sort of just play babysitter on the road,” said WTP head coach and program Co-founder O’Neil Wilson, who doubles as the team’s offensive coordinator and coach of wide receivers and running backs.

“Being an immersive program, though, it’s about getting them the true experience of being a true student-athlete and being on the road, staying in a hotel, and still getting the grades. Our guys are tested and it’s about mentorship for our coaches. We’re here to prepare them for university.”

Wilson played at Toronto’s Central Technical School and eventually the University of Connecticut as a wide receiver. He spent seven years in the Canadian Football League.

Assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Dwayne Mundle is a former safety and linebacker at West Virginia who lasted 10 seasons in the CFL.

The “school’s” Twitter account has not tweeted since September.

The $30,000/year school founded in 2009 was close to gaining five athletes from Ohio, and one each from California and Alabama, in 2020 before the pandemic closed the U.S.-Canada border.

“There are obstacles we face, sure. Chemistry is our battle,” Wilson told Pennlive.com. “We want to make the model more like American’s top schools, where you have junior high programs aligned. It’s just patience. But we play with pride and toughness.”

Arch Manning throws 4 TD passes as Newman rolls

Another big game for Arch Manning with 4 TD passes

The Arch Manning express continues to build power as the Newman High School star quarterback completed 16 of 23 passes for 321 yards with four touchdowns in a 41-12 win over Martin Luther King Charter on Friday.

One of the heralded Texas recruit’s TD passes was good for 82 yards to Peter Loop and opened the lead to 27-12 with 1:27 left in the third quarter.

We know it can’t just be Arch running around and making all the throws, Greenies coach Nelson Stewart told NOLA. com. “But on third down we were able to throw it a little bit because if you’ve got a kicker like (Kearney Nieset), you know you’ve got points in the bank.”

The Athletic reported Manning will be enrolling early in Austin.

Arch Manning throws pass 60 yards, sets Newman mark for touchdowns with 129

Arch Manning is a record-breaking machine for Newman in Louisiana

Arch Manning takes the field for Newman and another record falls.

The heralded Texas recruit has accounted for 129 touchdowns, setting a mark at his Louisiana high school. Manning moved ahead of Jay Tyler, a 2015 graduate who had 127.

If you are wondering what became of Tyler, he went on to play at and attend Stanford.

“I was at all of Jay’s games,” Manning told Nola.com. “He was a playmaker everywhere. It’s fun to be in the same conversation with him.”

In all, he threw four touchdown passes as the Greenies defeated Country Day 31-14, Friday. Manning was 16-of-20 passing for 258 yards.

And this is how and why everyone is so excited about the senior from one of football’s royal families.

Here’s a completed pass that went 60 yards in the air on a third-and-29.

His own highlight reel, which is what happens when you are such a prized recruit.

The record fell on senior night and his parents showed they know how to make an entrance, too.

The Mannings will be tied to Newman forever, per NOLA.com:

  • Newman celebrated the opening of the Manning Fieldhouse on the south end of Michael Lupin Field during a private ceremony before the game. The fieldhouse is an extension of the existing gymnasium originally built in 1951.

Pennsylvania HS earns incredible victory after blocked field goal

The field goal was blocked yet Central Catholic wound up with a TD

Perhaps the most improbable ending to a football game at any level took place Friday in Pennsylvania.

Central Catholic was playing Penn Hills on Friday night.

Penn Hills goes for a 2-point conversion with 18 seconds left and converts to take a 28-27 lead.

One last gasp for Central Catholic winds up with an attempt at a 49-yard field goal.

The kick is blocked and Penn Hills goes wild, celebrating what it believes is a victory.

However, Central Catholic recovers the ball and runs it 32 yards for a game-winning touchdown.

Final score: Central Catholic 33, Penn Hills 28.

Per Triblive.com:

The kick was blocked, but while Penn Hills players celebrated their apparent victory, Central Catholic lineman Anthony Shovlin picked up the loose ball and ran 32 yards for a touchdown that gave his team a wild 33-28 win.

The play was legal because the ball never crossed the line of scrimmage after being blocked by Penn Hills’ Raion Strader right off the foot of Central Catholic kicker Rowen Kautter.
