Carolina Panthers waive former Georgia WR

It is a tough time of year for many aspiring NFL players. Carolina Panthers release a former Georgia Bulldogs receiver

The Carolina Panthers waived veteran NFL wide receiver Javon Wims. Wims can sign with another team’s roster or practice squad following his release. Carolina is releasing Wims despite having injuries at the wide receiver position.

The former Georgia Bulldog has 28 career catches for 266 yards in his NFL career.

Wims appeared in one game with the Arizona Cardinals in 2022. He will try to carve out a role with another NFL team.

Wims most notably played for the Chicago Bears from 2018-2020. However, the Bears waived Wims in 2021. The Chicago Bears drafted Wims in seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft.

Wims played at Georgia from 2016-2017. He recorded 45 catches for 720 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 2017.

The Panthers added Wims in early training camp. Carolina announced a series of roster moves via the team’s website.

Panthers’ updated 90-man roster following 1st day of training camp

The Panthers made an adjustment to their 90-man roster following the first outing of training camp on Wednesday.

The Carolina Panthers swapped out wideouts following the very first practice of training camp—parting ways with Marquez Stevenson and adding Javon Wims to close out an eventful day.

So, let’s take a fresh look at the updated 90-man roster as we head into Thursday.

Panthers sign WR Javon Wims

A few hours after waiving Marquez Stevenson, the Panthers got their roster back up to 90 players with the addition of Javon Wims on Wednesday night.

Following their first outing of 2023 training camp, the Carolina Panthers trimmed their roster down to 89 players—parting ways with wide receiver Marquez Stevenson. But they didn’t stay at that number for long.

As announced on Wednesday night, the team has signed another wide receiver—Javon Wims. Wims was one of 10 players who worked out for the Panthers on Tuesday.

After a short stint at Hinds Community College, the Carol City, Fla. native landed at the University of Georgia in 2016. There, he recorded 910 yards and eight touchdowns over a pair of seasons.

Wims was then selected by the Chicago Bears in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft. His three-year stay in the Windy City, which was unfortunately headlined by his punch of then New Orleans Saints safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, resulted in 266 yards and two scores.

The 6-foot-2, 222-pound pass catcher has since picked up stops with the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals between 2021 and 2022. He appeared in one game for Arizona this past season.

Former Georgia WR Lawrence Cager has big preseason game for Jets

Former Georgia Bulldogs Lawrence Cager and Javon Wims both made big plays in the second week on the NFL preseason

Let’s run through an update on Georgia Bulldogs across the NFL.

Former Georgia Bulldog pass catchers Lawrence Cager and Javon Wims both made big plays in the second week of the NFL preseason. Roquan Smith has ended his holdout with the Bears.

Las Vegas Raiders rookie Zamir White is expected to have a fairly large role in 2022. The Raiders just released veteran NFL running back Kenyan Drake.

Here are some of the best plays from Dawgs in the NFL during preseason week two:

Browns make another flurry of moves Saturday

Three receivers return to practice, one receiver down for “awhile”, one defensive end to IR, another officially signed and a few other moves confirmed in a busy Saturday for the Browns:

The Cleveland Browns head into the week ramping up to their first preseason game with a few question marks. Outside of QB Deshaun Watson’s discipline process, the Browns injury concerns seem to be piling up, especially at the wide receiver position.

Thankfully, they also seem to be getting a few players healthy as well.

Injuries are a part of a game that is full contact and, often, a full collision sport. While focusing on one team often leads fans to think their team is more injury prone than the next, they often even out during training camp.

It is the injuries that cost key players their whole season or that hit during important stretches that really cause problems.

Saturday, Cleveland made another flurry of moves to update their roster:

Browns make flurry of moves ahead of training camp opening

Five players, including Ward, were added to different injury/illness lists as players report to camp today:

The Cleveland Browns are still waiting for a resolution to QB Deshaun Watson’s disciplinary hearing. There is no certainty that the resolution will come anytime soon but the league calendar marches on.

The Browns quarterbacks and rookies reported to Berea last week with the rest of the team joining them by today. When the rookies reported, WR David Bell was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after his physical.

With Cleveland’s roster full of talented players, there should be high hopes if everyone can stay healthy. While not everyone agrees, the Browns should be playoff contenders as long as Watson is able to play at least half of the games this year.

Keeping everyone healthy will be the key. With the rest of the team arriving and going through their physicals, Cleveland placed five players on different lists today due to injuries or illness:
