Report: Patriots, Bills considered ‘highly unlikely’ to trade for Deebo Samuel

Two teams at the top of the second round are reportedly “highly unlikely” to trade for 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

As soon as the San Francisco 49ers made the decision to select Florida Gators pass catcher Ricky Pearsall in a surprise pick at the end of the first round on Thursday night, all eyes turned to Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

With Aiyuk entering the final year of his contract with the 49ers, the 26-year-old wide receiver’s name has been engulfed in trade rumors. On Thursday, different reports and buzz indicated both Aiyuk and Samuel had been involved in trade chatter.

With the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots sitting at the top of the second round with a need at receiver, both AFC East teams have been linked to a potential trade with the 49ers. However, with the start of the second round approaching, Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz reported the Patriots and Bills are considered “highly unlikely” to trade for Samuel.

5 potential landing spots for Kyren Willams in NFL draft

Where do you hope to see Kyren playing this fall?

Former Notre Dame star running back Kyren Williams likely won’t be the first or second ball carrier to have his name called in this spring’s NFL draft but could very easily be the third or fourth.  He doesn’t have ideal size or breakaway speed but there isn’t necessarily a weakness in his game, either.

He isn’t the ideal running back in terms of being a draft prospect but certainly has the skills that should make someone’s offense improved.  Where would his best chance of NFL success be?  And what teams would make the most sense to draft Williams?

Here are five of the best potential landing spots for the two-time Notre Dame leading rusher.

New England Patriots place former UGA RB Sony Michel on PUP list

The New England Patriots have placed former Georgia running back Sony Michel on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

The New England Patriots have placed former Georgia running back Sony Michel on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

A player on the PUP list may not practice or play until after the sixth week of the season. Afterwards, he must return to practice, be placed on injured reserve or released from the team within five weeks. Michel had offseason foot surgery to help relieve discomfort.

The 31st overall pick in the 2018 draft, Michel has rushed for 1,843 yards and 13 touchdowns (with a 4.0 yards per carry average) in 29 regular season games. Michel played a key role in the 2018 Super Bowl run, rushing for 336 yards and six touchdowns in New England’s three games during the ’18 postseason.

Michel finished his four year career at Georgia with 3,613 rushing yards (6.1 yards per carry) with 33 touchdowns. He also caught 64 passes for 621 yards and 6 scores. He finished his brilliant UGA career as third leading rusher in school history. Michel’s and classmate Nick Chubb’s combined 8,259 career rushing yards surpassed those of SMU duo Eric Dickerson and Craig James’ FBS record of 8,192.

Report: Former Georgia RB Sony Michel recovering from surgery

Per reports, former Georgia football RB Sony Michel, now with the New England Patriots, is recovering from surgery he had this offseason.

According to ESPN, former Georgia running back Sony Michel, now with the New England Patriots, is recovering from foot surgery he had in May.

It appears the surgery was nothing too serious, according to reports. Rather it was maintenance-based to alleviate some discomfort he had been experiencing.

A first round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Michel has shared the lead back role with James White. Michel has been a big part of the Patriots offense in his two seasons, and has posted back-to-back 900+ yard seasons.

Late July is when New England is scheduled to return for training camp. Michel, though, is already in Foxborough rehabbing his foot.

New England Patriots playoff odds and predicted total wins: NFL futures picks and best bets

Assessing the betting odds of the New England Patriots making the 2020 NFL playoffs and predicting their exact win total.

Will the New England Patriots make the 2020 NFL playoffs? Below, we look at the BetMGM betting odds and make our pick. We also predict their exact win total for the upcoming season.

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Odds last updated Sunday, May 24 at 3:45 p.m. ET.

Will the New England Patriots make the 2020 NFL playoffs?

Yes: -205 | No: +165

The Patriots enter the 2020 season looking to extend an 11-year playoff streak in which they won the AFC East Division crown each of those years. The last time they missed the playoffs, they went 11-5 in 2008 and finished second in the division.

Still, the bet to make is NO (+165). New England begins life without future Hall of Fame QB Tom Brady. He’s expected to be replaced under center by either Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer. The Pats’ easiest route to the postseason remains via the division title, but the Buffalo Bills are primed to win their first division crown since 1995.

A $10 bet on the Patriots missing the 2020 playoffs returns a profit of $16.50. With question marks at the most important position, it’s the easy choice to make.

How many games will the New England Patriots win in 2020? Bands

BAND ODDS
0-4 Wins +4000
5-8 Wins +130
9-12 Wins -160
13-16 Wins +2000

The books are hedging against some major regression for the Pats by pricing the 5-8 win band as the second favorite. A $10 bet here will fetch a modest profit of $13 as what is the most realistic result.

Chase the value and count on disaster to strike the Pats in their first season without Brady leading the way. Bet 0-4 WINS (+4000) for a $400 return on a $10 bet. New England has owned the division over the last two decades, but with the quarterback competition now even, look for a 3-3 or 2-4 result in divisional play. In addition to the Bills, the Pats will play three road games against 2019 playoff teams, including the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The Pats will also play back-to-back West Coast road games against the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams in early December. Tough home games will come against the Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals.

How many games will the New England Patriots win in 2020? Exact number

Following suit of the above selection, look for the Pats to win exactly 4 games at +6500. A $10 bet will fetch a profit of $650.

The Pats haven’t won fewer than 10 games since going 9-7 in 2002 and they haven’t finished with four or fewer wins since 1992. The team’s decision to not address the quarterback position since Brady’s free-agent departure will prove costly. It’s possible New England ends up in position to select Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence at the top of the 2021 NFL Draft.

If UGA was fielding a starting team based on current NFL players, here’s what it would look like

We assembled a starting lineup full of former Georgia football players who are currently on NFL rosters.

Georgia continues to be one of college football’s leading producers of NFL talent, with seven players being taken in the 2020 NFL Draft.

At almost every position does Georgia have an NFL star — linebacker and running back being the most notable.

From veteran passer Matthew Stafford to new Falcons back Todd Gurley, to rookie kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, former Georgia Bulldogs look to put up big numbers again in 2020.

We’ve gone through an exercise of picking the best at each position to field a starting team of former Georgia players, all from a current pool of those currently on NFL rosters.

Remember, free agents did not make the team.

So, let’s get it started shall we?

Georgia football great voted into Patriots Hall of Fame

Georgia football great Richard Seymour has been voted into the New England Patriots Hall of Fame.

Former Georgia Bulldog defensive lineman Richard Seymour has been voted into the Patriots Hall of Fame. He becomes the 30th player to enter into the Pats’ Hall of Fame.

He beat out both Bill Parcels and Mike Vrabel in a fan-vote.

Taken with the 6th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft by New England, Seymour played there from 2001-08, where he became one of the Patriots best defenders of all time. He helped the Patriots win three Super Bowls and was named to five different all-pro teams. Seymour closed out his career by spending a few seasons with the Oakland Raiders.

He was a forced to be reckoned with not just in college, but in the pros as well. The 6-foot-6, 317 pound Seymour attended Lower Richland High School in Hopkins, South Carolina, and won first-team all region honors his senior season.

Seymour played for Georgia from 1997 to 2000. In 41 games (25 starting), he finished his UGA career with 226 total tackles, 9.5 sacks, 25.5 tackles for loss and 35 quarterback pressures. He was named to the All-SEC first team in 1999 and 2000 and first team All American in 2000.

Seymour had made the final ballot for the Patriots Hall of Fame for three consecutive years, but was finally able break through this year. It has not happened yet, but Seymour is on his way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as well. He’s been a finalist for that the past two years.
