Just when everyone had written off the Pittsburgh Steelers, they go out and do something like this. A hobbled Steelers defense helped carry the day and help pull off the 20-18 upset win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On offense, the story was quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Trubisky came in after rookie Kenny Pickett suffered a concussion early in the second half and took control of the offense. Trubisky found wide receiver Chase Claypool over and over again including a passing touchdown and even ran the ball when needed to seal the victory.

No one game the Steelers defense a shot against Bucs quarterback Tom Brady with four starting defensive backs out. But the team rallied, played smart, aggressive football and kept Brady in check. Brady finished with 241 passing yards but struggled to finish drives. Thanks to inspired play from guys like cornerback James Pierre and linebacker Devin Bush, the Steelers defense kept them in the game long enough for the offense to seal the victory.

The win, paired with a loss by the Baltimore Ravens means Pittsburgh is now only one game out of the lead a crowded AFC North. Pittsburgh now has to prepare to head to Miami to take on the Dolphins on Sunday Night Football.

It took almost six games but a Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver has finally caught a touchdown. Five minutes into the fourth quarter, Mitch Trubisky fired a bullet to wide receiver Chase Claypool to help the Steelers go up 20-12 on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Trubisky is in the game because rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a concussion and was forced out early in the second half. Trubisky started the first four games of the season but struggled before being replaced.

Claypool has had a strong performance this week with five catches for 53 yards and said touchdown so far.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Kenny Pickett will not finish his second NFL start. After taking a big hit from Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White early in the third quarter, Pickett came out and was evaluated for a concussion. The team announced Pickett is now out with a concussion.

Pickett has been replaced in the starting lineup by Mitch Trubisky. Trubisky was benched after starting the first four games for the talented rookie and now will be asked to try and wrap up this win against Tampa and snap the team’s four-game losing streak.

Midway through the third quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett took a big hit from Tampa linebacker Devin White. The hit was enough to force Pickett out of the game and he headed to the locker room. Pickett was replaced in the lineup by former Steelers starter Mitch Trubisky.

Pickett had struggled after the first scoring drive of the game. On the day, Pickett only has 67 passing yards on 11-for-18 passing and has been sacked once. Pickett did get his first passing touchdown of the season on that opening drive and added 16 yards on the ground.

We will keep you updated on Pickett’s status as information becomes available.

UPDATE: Pickett is being evaluated for a concussion and his return is questionable.

We don’t know if the Pittsburgh Steelers will beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but the energy rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett has created is impressive. On Sunday, Pickett marched the offense down on the team’s opening draft and scored his first passing touchdown as a pro.

Pickett went 5-for-5 on the drive for 74 yards and capped it with a six-yard pitch and catch to running back Najee Harris for the easy score. It was a tremendous play design by offensive coordinator and perfect execution. Pickett completed passes to four different players on that drive and even chipped in a 10-yard rush.
