Florida basketball just makes the cut in Lunardi’s early 2022 bracketology

Joe Lunardi’s early 2022 bracketology includes Florida basketball but has the Gators as a fringe team. Here’s a look at where UF slots in.

It was just a few weeks ago that the Baylor Bears were crowned NCAA champions as the confetti fell in Indianapolis to wrap up what was a very unique 2020-21 season. But it’s never too early to talk about the 2021-22 campaign, which begins later this coming fall.

On Tuesday, bracketologist Joe Lunardi released his first bracketology for that season based on the recent moves of the transfer portal, players declaring the NBA draft and players returning. There has been a lot of transactions over the past few months with a very active transfer portal and the landscape for teams such as the Florida Gators has changed. While Florida did lose a lot from last season’s team, they have filled a few needs using the transfer portal and right now, Lunardi considers them a tournament team.

(function (d, s, n) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
js = d.createElement(s);
js.className = n;
js.src = “//player.ex.co/player/e5869bc6-faf6-4b7a-8c06-b5610c96a8fe”;
fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

However, it’s as a fringe tournament team.

Lunardi lists Florida as a No. 10 seed in the Midwest Regional in Chicago going up against No. 7 Xavier in the first round. The Gators are listed as one of the four teams that earned the last bye, meaning they avoided the play-in games but are still right on the bubble.

There is still a long way to go until next year’s tournament and some rosters will look different for tipoff. The versions of bracketology will change over time, heck even before summer hits but it’s still nice to get some college basketball news in the offseason.
