Where Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, James Cook stats ranked at end of 2023 season

Where their stats ended up finishing at the end of the 2023 season:

The 2023 Buffalo Bills season ended in the divisional round of the postseason.

While a disappointing finish, the Bills did have their positives. A winning streak to end the year helped Buffalo lock in a fourth-straight AFC East title.

Throughout the season, Bills Wire has tracked where the team’s playmakers on offense, quarterback Josh Allen, wide receiver Stefon Diggs, and running back James Cook have ranked in terms of their statistics throughout each week of the season. How did they stand up against the competition?

With the 2024 offseason now underway and Buffalo looking forward, here’s a quick look back.

Here’s where Allen, Diggs, and Cook ended up ranking in statistics in the against the rest of the NFL in 2023:

Patrick Mahomes called out Bills in locker room speech post-Chiefs win

Nice guy:

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes did not mind calling out the Bills, at all, in his team’s locker room and with a camera in his face.

After Mahomes and the Chiefs won 27-24 at Highmark Stadium in the AFC divisional round of the playoffs, the QB had a lot to say.

As he addressed his team’s locker room after the big win, Mahomes told his teammates that the Bills “asked for it” and that the team “got what they asked for” by playing the Chiefs.

Report card: Bills fall to Chiefs, 27-24

Report card: #Bills fall to #Chiefs, 27-24:

The Buffalo Bills 2023 NFL season has concluded and the Bills momentous six-game winning streak meeting it’s end.

The team won the AFC East for a fourth season and clinched the No. 2 seed as well as two home playoff games. While they defeated the Steelers in the wild card round, they lost Sunday to their playoff nemesis’s the Chiefs, ending their postseason.

With that, here is the BillsWire’s final report card for the Buffalo Bills 2023 season following the team’s 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs:

What we learned from the Bills’ playoff loss to the Chiefs

What we learned from the #Bills’ playoff loss to the #Chiefs:

The Bills’ six-game winning streak and playoff run came to a windy and chilly end Sunday night at home in Highmark Stadium.

It didn’t help that it was against their AFC rival, the Kansas City Chiefs, who knocked Buffalo out of the playoffs for the third time in four years with a 27-24 victory.

That’s not to say the game wasn’t revealing in terms of insights and both pros and cons worth weighing going into the offseason.

With that, here are three things we learned from Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs:

Shirtless Jason Kelce picked up a young Bills fan to help her show Taylor Swift her sign

Actually seems like a pretty cool guy, especially for this:

Jason Kelce had himself a time at Highmark Stadium.

Kelce, the NFL veteran who is on the Eagles, has only played in one career game against the Bills in Orchard Park.

His brother, Travis Kelce, faced and beat the Bills with the Chiefs, 27-24, in the NFL’s divisional playoff round.

Prior to kickoff on Sunday, the Kelce brother who was in attendance as a fan went and hung out with Bills Mafia and tailgated in the parking lot around Highmark Stadium. Kelce then watched the game in a suite with his brother’s well-known girlfriend, Taylor Swift.

While there, Kelce still kept a soft spot for Bills fans even though their team ended up losing. In particular, one young Bills fan was given an awesome experience by him.

Kelce jumped out of the suite he was watching the game in. He went and lifted up one young Bills fan so she could see Swift and so she could show the music star her sign.

That will be a moment not soon forgotten.

Check out the experience below:

Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes trolls Dion Dawkins after beating Bills

Not exactly that nice of him:

The Chiefs beat the Bills, then Patrick Mahomes trolled Dion Dawkins.

During the lead up to the AFC divisional round matchup between the Bills and Chiefs, Dawkins discussed the home-field advantage his team would have.

Like we’ve seen with many of the “greats” in sport, players will use anything as motivation. Dawkins provided to fuel for Mahomes’ fire.

In his commentary, Dawkins said to ESPN that “Pat has never been to the Bills stadium in full.”

Dawkins came to the conclusion that this would be a huge edge for the Bills over the Chiefs. He finished his commentary with “so, good luck.”

Evidently, they had enough luck since the Chiefs won 27-24.

Can you guess what Mahomes’ caption on the post he shared to social media was after beating the Bills?

Have a look, if you haven’t caught on yet:

Bills lost to Chiefs despite ridiculous edge in time of possession

Bad beat for the #Bills:

The Buffalo Bills had a massive edge on the Kansas City Chiefs.

They still lost 27-24.

On offense, there was a clear game plan for the Bills. Keep the ball more than the Chiefs so they can’t score.

Unfortunately, you can’t hang onto it for the entire 60 minutes.

Kansas City will get their chances. They did. The Chiefs capitalized as a beaten up Buffalo defense was scored on by the combination of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce too many times.

In the end, if this was the idea, the offense did their part. But this is a full team game and according to the Buffalo News, the Bills were on the wrong end of this one in rare fashion.

Since the AFL-NFL merger, teams who held the ball for as long as Buffalo had against Kansas City had a 54-6 overall record in those contests. In total, the Bills had the ball in their possession for 37:03 of game time.

A good plan perhaps, but poor execution.

Bills’ Josh Allen following Chiefs loss: ‘Losing sucks’

#Bills’ Josh Allen following #Chiefs loss: ‘Losing sucks’

The Buffalo Bills saw their season come to a chilling end on the frozen tundra of Orchard Park on a windy Sunday night.

The team lost 27-24 to none other than their postseason nemesis and AFC rival Kansas City Chiefs.

In what’s become a series of postseason matches between NFL heavyweight contenders turned rivals, the Bills have beaten the Chiefs three consecutive times in the regular season while Kansas City ended Buffalo’s playoff campaign and season three times now.

The Bills and their fans remember those losses all too well and with the latest one still fresh, so is the feeling for Buffalo QB Josh Allen.

“It sucks,” He said to the media. “Losing sucks. Losing to them, losing to anybody at home sucks.”

The first two playoff losses to the Chiefs took place in Kansas City as, aside from the three Super Bowls they’ve appeared in, the Chiefs had not played any other road games on the way there.

The Bills beat their AFC East rival Dolphins to claim their fourth division crown and the first No. 2 AFC playoff seed in HC Sean McDermott’s tenure and entered Sunday’s contest with momentum, riding a six-game winning streak that began with a 20-17 NFL Week 14 win over that very Chiefs team.

As a result, Andy Reid’s squad played their first non-Super Bowl road playoff game in none other than Buffalo, with the Bills entering the game as the favorite to leave Highmark Stadium with a victory.

While losing in front of the teams’ home crowd surely carries its own emotions, losing in general resonates with Buffalo’s quarterback regardless of location.

“Here, there, it doesn’t matter,” Allen added. “Losing sucks. I don’t know what else to say.”

Just as in past matchups between the teams, the Bills’ defense and special teams failed in needed moments, including a missed 44-yard field goal on the Bills’ last drive that would have tied the game with 1:47 left to play Sunday night.

“We were within a whisker of tying that game and maybe even taking the lead there against the defending world champs,” HC Sean McDermott said to the press postgame. “Again, we just didn’t do enough — starting with me — to win this game.”

When questioned during his postgame press conference about any changes or adjustments needed, Allen

“I don’t think it’s a big change,” the quarterback continued. “I think it’s just, again, we’ve got to find a way to score one more point than they do. And every season, if you don’t win, it’s a failed season. That’s the nature of the business. There’s one happy team at the end of the season, really. And when it’s not you and you’re so close, it sucks.”

Allen taking responsibility and the high road as a leader with a focus on the offense is consistent with his character and as a professional.

The franchise and GM Brandon Beane now will face an offseason opportunity to shore up and strengthen their defense, who struggled to get stops including on the Chiefs final drive that ended Buffalo’s season.

Bills’ Josh Allen provided Tyler Bass with a hug after Chiefs loss

Josh is there for Tyler:

The Buffalo Bills fell in the end. The spotlight was on Tyler Bass and he did not covert.

Who knows how the game could have gone even if the kicker made it. But from 44 yards out, Bass missed. The score at that point was 27-24 in favor of the Chiefs and that’s how it ended.

At the podium and in the locker room, teammates defended Bass. Even before then, quarterback Josh Allen showed humility to the Bills kicker.

Allen was spotted giving Bass a hug in the tunnel of Highmark Stadium as the two left the field.

Call it leadership or whatever you like, but at the end of the day, that’s just a guy being a good person.

The NFL shared the video and it can be found in the clip below:

Bills’ Terrel Bernard explains injury after season ends vs. Chiefs

A good and bad update:

The Bills lost to the Chiefs in the AFC divisional round. Their season is over.

Linebacker Terrel Bernard had nothing to do with that. The 27-24 final did not feature Bernard.

Bernard sustained an ankle injury against the Steelers a week ago. He was carted off the field because of it and did not return. The issue kept him off the field against the Chiefs, too.

With the season over, Bernard revealed to reporters in the Bills locker after the contest what had happened.

Initial reports indicated that there were no broken bones in Bernard’s ankle. However, he told The Athletic that it “popped out,” meaning a likely dislocation.

Even with that grim update, Bernard went on to say something positive. Had the Bills won, he said would have played against the Ravens in the AFC championship according to the Buffalo News.

Bernard is no doctor. Players are often overly positive, but who knows. There is a chance he could have been back but we’ll never know now.

If it’s true that Bernard could have suited up, that is a bit of a good and bummer of an update.

Bernard will now get further evaluations on his foot as the Bills’ 2023 season comes to its close.

Bills Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the offseason.
