Celtics Lab 91: Digging into the new-look Celtics and the trade deadline aftermath with Anna Horford

In this episode, we talk about the new-look Celtics and the human side of the trade deadline with Anna Horford.

The 2022 NBA trade deadline has come and gone, and with it and the time needed for their young roster and new coach to gel, the Boston Celtics are a very different team.

A league-leading defense and a humming offense finally have the Celtics looking like the team many hoped they’d become, with this iteration of the team looking like it’s going to make some noise in the postseason. And while there’s plenty to be happy about, it’s worth remembering that as much as the NBA is a business, much of the work that takes place at the deadline isn’t so easy on players and their families.

To strike a balance between the two poles, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast got together with friend of the pod Anna Horford to talk about what the deadline was like for her brother Al and her family, the team’s new look and both sides of the coin regarding what went into it.

Justin Quinn, Alex Goldberg, and Cam Tabatabaie also talk about everything from Deuce Tatum’s budding stardom to whether Al will be dancing at Anna’s wedding coming up soon, so be sure to tune in to hear it all.

Celtics Lab 90: Buyouts, free agents, and other ways to juice the Boston Celtics’ roster even more

What means do the Celtics have to tighten up an already formidable roster even further?

The Boston Celtics by all accounts had themselves a very productive 2022 NBA trade deadline, adding top-flight rotation talent bordering on starting level without paying an exceptionally high price to get the deals done while also consolidating contracts to clear playing time for their younger prospects as well.

No easy task, the Celtics now face the next step of their journey back to contention — adding more talent around the margins as they seek to bolster the defensive firewall that is their primary identity while also boosting the team’s offensive capabilities with the best buyout and free agent targets available.

Who is there to work with? What are they up to now, how can they help, and what are the odds Boston can land them?

Celtics Lab 89: Taking stock of the Celtics, Eastern Conference after a VERY busy trade deadline with Yossi Gozlan

Get up to speed on a very busy deadline with this podcast.

While more than a few fans and analysts suspected that the Boston Celtics were set to perhaps at most make a small move to duck under the tax, the team instead re-shaped its roster about as much as is possible without moving core players in a blockbuster deal.

Now, after starting the day with 17 players (counting two ways), the team finds itself with five (yes, five) open roster spots, Derrick White from the San Antonio Spurs, Daniel Theis returning from the Houston Rockets and perhaps the most intimidating defenses assembled in recent NBA history to play with for the rest of the season.

What do these moves mean for the Celtics in the long and short terms? What can we expect to see as far as an on-court product? And where do the Celtics stand in comparison to the rest of the East after a flurry of moves around the league radically transformed the NBA landscape as we knew it?

This pod, we sort through the early trade deadline deals and rumors and what they could mean for the East with Brooklyn Buzz’ Nick Fay.

A flurry of unexpectedly early deals in the 2022 NBA trade deadline season caught fans of the Boston Celtics and wider NBA by surprise Tuesday morning, with plenty of rumbles tied to the Celtics that may yet still unfold as well.

As we sift through the detritus of those fairly significant deals between the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, and New Orleans Pelicans to try and divine what might be next for Boston and the rest of the league, the Celtics are poised to overtake the might Brooklyn Nets in the standings after an eight-game losing streak and with their own potential blockbuster concerning James Harden hanging over their heads.

To that end, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast are joined by Nick Fay of the Off The Glass “Brooklyn Buzz” podcast to try and make sense of all the action so far, as well as what might yet be in store for both teams and the NBA ahead of the Thursday, Feb. 10 deadline.

Celtics Lab 87: Jaylen Brown might want out? Jazz interest in J-Rich? Dissecting trade rumbles and strategies with Adam Kaufman

Silly season is in full swing, and in this pod, we discuss our panic level with rumbles that Jaylen Brown might want out, as well as our thoughts on potential Celtics trade strategy ahead of the 2022 deadline.

With the 2022 NBA trade deadline less than two weeks away, Silly Season — that time of year you can’t trust a trade rumor further than you can throw it — has arrived. And with it, new reports that Jaylen Brown might want out of the Boston Celtics if things don’t improve with the team moving forward, plus whispers the Utah Jazz (headed by former Celtics president Danny Ainge) might have eyes for Josh Richardson on the trade market.

How much stock should we put in such rumors? Does it matter if the reporter has impeccable bonafides? What should the team’s front office be considering regarding the players they have now should teams come calling? Are there players Boston needs to be shopping ahead of the Feb. 10 deadline?

So many questions and we might just be warming up with several staring contests between rival GMs already starting to get further entrenched, so for this week’s CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, we’re joined by fellow CLNS alum Adam Kaufman to talk all things Celtics and trade deadline.

WATCH: What should Boston Celtics fans expect at the 2022 NBA trade deadline?

Firework — or sparklers?

What can we expect from the Boston Celtics at the 2022 NBA trade deadline? Major moves to make a push towards contention? Minor moves around the margins to address tax concerns and roster balance? Or something in the middle of the two poles?

It’s all but certain the team will not stand pat based on how close they have already moved towards getting under the luxury tax line, but there is a good deal of speculation about what the team is going to do beyond making more moves before the Feb. 10 moratorium on trading players in the 2021-22 season.

Watch the video clip embedded below to hear what the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast have to say about the Celtics’ trade deadline plans.

Hosts Adam Kaufman and Evan Valenti are joined by “Winning Plays” podcast host Brian Robb to try and make sense of what the team is thinking of doing in the coming two weeks before the deadline.

Celtics Lab 86: Taking the temperature of Boston Celtics trade intel with Jared Weiss

Get up to speed on what The Athletic NBA Insider has been hearing about Boston on the trade market.

The 2022 NBA trade season is off and running at a full gallop with the Boston Celtics having been among the first teams in the league to make a deal, with the buzz surrounding the team suggesting that the Celtics remain among the league’s most active teams on the phones calling about potential deals ahead of the Feb. 10 limit to making trades this season.

With plenty to cover about rumbles tied to veteran Boston players like Marcus Smart and Al Horford as much as more recent arrivals in Dennis Schroder and Josh Richardson, the hosts of the CLNS Media Podcast “Celtics Lab” reached out to Celtics Wire alumnus Jared Weiss of The Athletic for some context behind his recent reporting on the team regarding trades.

WATCH: Boston’s Jayson Tatum hangs 51 points on the Washington Wizards

Check out the St. Louis native’s historic performance in this highlight video.

When Boston Celtics All-Star forward Jayson Tatum breaks a shooting slump, he doesn’t pull any punches. And punches he did not pull in his 51-point pummeling of the Washington Wizards in the Celtics’ 116 – 87 beatdown of the Wiz at Capital One Arena Sunday afternoon.

The St. Louis native put up the third-most points of his career on his way to shooting 18-of-28 from the floor overall, 9-of-14 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe for good measure. Tatum nabbed 10 rebounds and 7 assists in the game to round out his stat line, turning the ball over only once, and late in the game at that.

If you were among those taking the game off and need to see his historic performance for the first time yourself, or just want to bask in the glory of the Duke product’s big night, check out the highlight clip put together b the NBA embedded below.

Celtics Lab 85: Boston’s hitting singles, dodging tax ahead of the trade deadline

In this lab, we explore the logics Boston may be employing at the trade deadline – and who they might target.

The Boston Celtics are making moves on the margins already seemingly with an eye to getting under the tax line for the 2021-22 NBA season — how will the franchise finish out the rest of its roster-building moves given what we have seen from President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens so far?

The latest episode of the CLNS Media podcast “Celtics Lab” was recorded before the deal that sent Juancho Hernangomez to the San Antonio Spurs to bring back Bol Bol and PJ Dozier, but the analysis hosts Alex Goldberg, Justin Quinn and Cameron Tabatabaie brought to bear in it came very close to predicting such a move.

The trio get into the teeth of what else might be in store for the team before the Feb. 10 deadline arrives.

Check out the clip embedded above to get an idea on what else might be coming for the storied franchise during what’s left of the 2022 trade season as the potential for bigger moves unfolds.

Surveying the Celtics’ trade deadline horizon with HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto

The NBA insider recently gave an exclusive look into what Boston might be thinking ahead of the trade deadline on the Celtics Lab podcast.

Trade season is in full swing with rumors and hints at the plans of much of the NBA starting to percolate up through the league’s media coverage, and the Boston Celtics figure to be squarely in the middle of the action with a strong consensus existing that they will be one of the NBA’s more active teams ahead of the Feb. 10 deadline.

To that end, the Celtics Lab podcast spoke with HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, one of the leading voices in breaking the early intelligence on the Celtics trade deadline plans so far this season. Scotto engaged the “Celtics Lab” podcast in a wide-ranging interview covering everything from rumbles about Celtics alumnus Jeff Green and Phoenix Suns big man Jalen Smith being tied to Boston all the way to what he’s heard about the team’s interest in Ben Simmons.

The interview below has been lightly edited for clarity and brevity, and is full of nuggets (pun intended) of info heading into the thick of trade season.
