Add Coach Prime and Colorado to Those Trying to Poach Notre Dame Quarterback

Hands off, Buffs!

The biggest name to date in Notre Dame’s star-studded 2025 recruiting class is quarterback [autotag]Deuce Knight[/autotag].  Knight committed to the Irish back in September and has been a vocal leader in helping recruit more talent to Notre Dame’s 2025 class.

Despite this, other programs are trying to swoop in and get Knight to flip his commitment.  The latest to do so is none other than the Colorado Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders.

Colorado doesn’t yet have a quarterback commitment in the class.  They were in on top quarterback prospect Bryce Underwood, but he ultimately committed to LSU.

This past Friday, Knight announced on social media that Colorado had extended him an offer:

Knight is rated as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports composite.  The same outlet ranks him as the 62nd overall player in the class and fifth overall quarterback.

Notre Dame Football History: The All-Time 25 Leading Passers

Notre Dame’s Top 25 All-Time Passing Leaders. Who was the actual best quarterback?

You can’t tell the history of football as a whole without bringing up the University of Notre Dame and the impact the school had on the college game.  Whether they’re fans or not, no college football program is as known nationally as that of the Fighting Irish.

That specific Notre Dame football history can’t be spoken without discussing the names of some of the best to ever drop back to pass in blue and gold.

Joe Montana, Brady Quinn, Rick Mirer.

Jarious Jackson, Joe Theismann, Tony Rice.

And the list goes on and on.

We break down the top 20 passers in Notre Dame football history. A group that includes a Heisman Trophy winner and plenty of eventual NFL draft picks.

Virginia hurts NCAA Tournament odds with rare loss to Notre Dame

The Virginia Cavaliers took a rare loss against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to move to 1-1 in ACC play.

Notre Dame coach Micah Shrewsberry picked up his first conference win on Saturday in a 76-54 thrashing over Tony Bennett and Virginia.

The Fighting Irish move to 6-7 on the year and 1-1 in ACC play, while Virginia drops to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in conference.

It’s a rare win for Notre Dame, who came into the game trailing the all-time series 17-3 and who had only beat Virginia twice since Bennett took over.

Notre Dame’s 76 points is the second most surrendered by the Cavs and their notoriously excellent defense this season, behind only the 77 scored by Memphis.

Virginia didn’t just struggle on defense, they shot 38% from the field and only attempted 11 three pointers – making just two – despite being behind most of the game.

For Virginia a Quad 4 loss like this one seriously hurts their NCAA Tournament at-large hopes, as the Fighting Irish came into the day a whopping 239th in the NET.

For Notre Dame it’s a reminder that – while this season has had plenty of low points already – the future with coach Shrewsberry is bright.

Quarterback Riley Leonard officially commits to Notre Dame

The junior quarterback helped lead Duke to a 4-0 start before an ankle injury held him out of most of the rest of the season.

Former Duke quarterback Riley Leonard announced his next destination on Tuesday, revealing his commitment to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2024.

Leonard, a junior who spent the past three seasons with the Blue Devils, shared a short video on social media to announce the decision.

Duke got off to a hot start with Leonard under center this past year. The Blue Devils won four straight games to start the 2023 season, including a season-opening victory over Clemson. Notre Dame actually ended Duke’s perfect season in Week 5, converting a miracle fourth down before scoring a go-ahead touchdown in the final minute.

Leonard suffered a high ankle sprain in that game against the Fighting Irish that ended up severely limiting the rest of his season. After he threw 126 passes in the first five games of the season, the junior threw 39 the rest of the season. Duke fell from 4-0 to 7-5.

The Blue Devils quarterback ended the season with 1,102 passing yards and a 57.6% completion percentage on 165 attempts, with three touchdowns and three interceptions in seven appearances. He threw a career-high 20 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2022.

Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman to sit out of the Sun Bowl

The five-year FBS starter ends his collegiate career with 15,656 career passing yards, the fifth-most in college football history.

Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman’s collegiate career appears to have come to an end.

Hartman has opted out of the Fighting Irish’s appearance in the Sun Bowl in order to prepare for the NFL Draft in April, the team confirmed on Monday.

The senior transferred to Notre Dame for his final year of eligibility this season. He passed for 2,689 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions with the Fighting Irish.

He’d spent the previous five years with Wake Forest, whom he started for every year except 2019 when he battled injury. He threw 77 touchdowns in his last two seasons with the Demon Deacons, and he ended his Wake Forest career with the most passing touchdowns in ACC history with 110.

Hartman’s final collegiate totals stand at 15,656 passing yards (the fifth-most in FBS history) and 134 passing touchdowns (tied for third).

Sophomore Steve Angeli will play in the bowl game against Oregon State, the team announced in a short video. Angeli has appeared in six games this season, throwing 25 passes and completing 19 of them for 272 yards. He’s thrown four touchdowns and one interception.

‘You only dated him’: Wake Forest head coach on Notre Dame honoring Sam Hartman on senior night

“You only dated him,” Demon Deacons head coach Dave Clawson said when he heard what the Fighting Irish said about his former quarterback.

Notre Dame honored quarterback Sam Hartman on senior night with a heartfelt video edited to Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”

Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson, Hartman’s former coach and his opponent on Saturday, was less moved than the Fighting Irish faithful.

Clawson, who coached Hartman for five years with the Demon Deacons before the quarterback transferred this offseason, questioned whether a team Hartman only spent a year with could offer such sentiment.

“Here’s a guy that we recruited and we developed,” Clawson said. “Like, you only dated him for a couple of months. It can’t be love. We’re the ones that love him. We had five years with him. You rented him for a season.”

Clawson added to his comments with how the transfer portal created such a situation.

“When that video played, it’s just like, ‘Holy cow, this is where college football is,’” he said.

Hartman threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-7 victory over his former team.

Notre Dame football: Mitchell Evans leaves game in 3rd quarter

Hopefully this isn’t too serious.

A[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”dW5kZWZpbmVk”][/anyclip-media]fter taking a 17-0 lead to halftime against Pittsburgh on Saturday, Notre Dame started the second half in grand fashion.

Special teams and defensive scores helped the lead quickly swell to 37-0 just minutes into the third frame.  However, things weren’t perfect for the half.  Late in the frame [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] found tight end [autotag]Mitchell Evans[/autotag] for a 13-yard reception.  While getting tackled, Evans suffered a knee injury that he had to be helped off the field from.

There was no immediate update given to Evans or the severity of the injury.

Evans is a key cog in Notre Dame’s offense, having hauled in 356 receiving yards entering Saturday’s contest.

Fighting Irish Wire will keep you updated to any developments in regards to Evans.

Sam I Am!

Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman has put up some of the biggest numbers in the history of college football.

Hartman transferred to Notre Dame following the conclusion of the 2022 season.  Now the man who is competing in his sixth and final season of college football is helping try and lead the Fighting Irish back to a New Year’s Six bowl game where they’d like to end a 30 year run of failing to win.

Hartman didn’t take long to endure himself to Notre Dame football fans, coming out with huge numbers early on in 2023.

Below we’ve compiled some of the best photos of Hartman during his season at Notre Dame.  Be sure to check back as the year goes on to see more following each Notre Dame game!

Watch: Matt Lienart re-enacts ‘Bush Push’ in front of Brady Quinn

18 years later and it still stings

Few college football games in history stack up to what 2005’s edition of Notre Dame vs. USC presented.

An all-time exciting game with an all-time finish.

Notre Dame was one play away from snapping USC’s 27-game winning streak and knocking off No. 1 but thanks to help from Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush, quarterback Matt Leinart found the end zone.

To this day that play is remembered as the “Bush Push”.  I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know if you’re a Notre Dame or USC fan but two stars from that game are on campus this weekend.

Former Notre Dame quarterback [autotag]Brady Quinn[/autotag] works with Leinart on the Fox Sports “Big Noon Kickoff” show that is broadcasting from South Bend for the first time Saturday.

On Thursday night the two were on the field to re-enact the legendary play that still stings Irish hearts to this day.  Check it out below as we’re certain there will be a piece on the show Saturday morning.
