Demario Davis, Trey Hendrickson among Saints Pro Bowl snubs

The NFL released its 2021 Pro Bowl rosters, snubbing New Orleans Saints players like LB Demario Davis and DE Trey Hendrickson.

The New Orleans Saints have sent more players to the annual Pro Bowl than most teams over the last few years, but their selections for this year’s all-star roster featured several critical snubs.

Talents like linebacker Demario Davis and right tackle Ryan Ramczyk were both overlooked, despite both players earning All-Pro recognition in 2019. And they weren’t the only oversights, with special teams ace Justin Hardee also left out in the cold. Trey Hendrickson, the breakout pass rusher of the defense currently tied for the NFL sacks title, didn’t get a nod either.

Saints players who made it to the 2019 event but weren’t brought back include quarterback Drew Brees, wide receiver Michael Thomas, tight end Jared Cook, kicker Wil Lutz, and return specialist Deonte Harris. The absences of Brees, Thomas, and Harris make sense given the time they’ve lost to injuries, while Cook and Lutz have seen their performance dip a bit in 2020.

Former right guard Larry Warford opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic after appearing in three consecutive Pro Bowls with the Saints.

There won’t be a Pro Bowl played this season because of that public health crisis, so there won’t be alternate selections, either. But there’s still importance to the event given contract incentives for players around the league. At least five members of the team were picked up for this year’s game, so the Saints will be well-represented in the history books.

Andrus Peat among 5 Saints selected for Pro Bowl

Andrus Peat and Alvin Kamara were among five New Orleans Saints players selected for the upcoming Pro Bowl, which will be virtual.

Steelers Wire takes a look at the five Steelers who were named to the virtual Pro Bowl.

The Pittsburgh Steelers got five players named to the 2021 Pro Bowl roster. This year the Pro Bowl won’t be played in person and instead will consist of a giant Madden NFL tournament played by the players who make the team.

Here are the five Steelers who made the team.

Guard David DeCastro

Center Maurkice Pouncey

Defensive tackle Cam Heyward

Linebacker T.J. Watt

Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick

Typically most veterans opt out of travelling to the Pro Bowl and you see the NFL have to dig deep at some positions to get participants but if the whole thing is just a glorified video game tournament it shouldn’t matter even if players are playing in the Super Bowl.

Cameron Jordan now lead all NFC defensive ends in Pro Bowl fan voting

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan currently leads all of his peers in the NFC in voting for the 2020 Pro Bowl, per NFL release

Only one member of the New Orleans Saints leads the NFC in Pro Bowl votes, and it’s defensive end Cameron Jordan. An NFL release on Thursday listed him with 80,675 votes from fans so far, leapfrogging last week’s leader (Carolina Panthers edge rusher Brian Burns, who had 62,814 votes at the time).

Jordan was recently recognized as the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for November after netting 5 sacks in as many games, to go along with a dozen tackles (half of them stopping the offense for a loss of yards). He’s benefited from the return of Marcus Davenport to the lineup, who demands attention from offensive lines that was previously shifted Jordan’s way. Improved pass coverage in the secondary has also created more opportunities for Jordan to make an impact.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis remains the leader at his position group after surpassing his Saints counterpart Marshon Lattimore. That’s despite Davis allowing multiple touchdown catches and more than 200 receiving yards in his last game before Tampa Bay’s bye week. Bah, humbug.

Of course there are many other Saints players worthy of Pro Bowl consideration; cast your ballot at this link before fan voting closes on Thursday, Dec. 17.

Pro Bowl voting: Bucs’ Carlton Davis passes Marshon Lattimore after giving up 3 TD’s

Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Carlton Davis earned more Pro Bowl votes than Saints CB Marshon Lattimore after allowing 211 yards to Tyreek Hill.

Marshon Lattimore was the only New Orleans Saints player to lead his position group in Pro Bowl votes a week ago, but he’s taken a backseat to Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis in a Dec. 3 update from the NFL.

That isn’t very surprising, in a vacuum. Davis has had a great year for Tampa Bay and blanketed Michael Thomas in their Week 1 meeting, so he probably deserves a Pro Bowl nod. But it’s tough to accept these results after he was brined, smoked, and seared by Kansas City Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill last Sunday.

Pro Football Focus charting found that Hill was targeted 9 times with Davis in coverage, catching all 9 passes for a staggering 211 receiving yards and 3 touchdown receptions. It was one of the worst games for a cornerback in recent memory and clashes horribly with this news of Davis leading all NFC corners in Pro Bowl votes.

For context, Lattimore has allowed just 2 touchdown catches in his last 5 games — a total of 15 receptions on 27 targets for 157 receiving yards. And that’s while dealing with a hamstring injury that’s limited him in practice and held him out of New Orleans’ Week 11 visit to Tampa Bay.

Maybe Davis rebounds when the Buccaneers come out of their Week 13 bye. But if you’re interested in flipping this result back the other way with Lattimore on top, cast your Pro Bowl vote at this link.

Marshon Lattimore leads all NFC cornerbacks in Pro Bowl fan voting

New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore leads his position group in fan votes for the 2021 Pro Bowl roster representing the NFC.

The NFL announced the early results for fan votes on the 2021 Pro Bowl rosters this week, and New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore led his position group in the NFC with 31,053 ballots in his favor. It’s early, but he was the only Saints player to lead his position in voting so far.

Expect that to change. The Saints had 11 players voted onto the 2020 Pro Bowl roster, with Lattimore among five starters. However, the fourth-year cornerback wasn’t able to participate while recovering from offseason hand/wrist surgery. It was his second Pro Bowl nod after getting in back in 2017, when he also won Defensive Rookie of the Year recognition.

Here are the other four Pro Bowl starters from New Orleans in last year’s all-star game, and who currently ranks ahead of them in fan voting:

  • Wide receiver Michael Thomas (DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona Cardinals)
  • Defensive end Cameron Jordan (Brian Burns, Carolina Panthers)
  • Kicker Wil Lutz (Younghoe Koo, Atlanta Falcons)
  • Returns specialist Deonte Harris (Cordarrelle Patterson, Chicago Bears)

Fans interested in voting can do so at this link. The final rosters will count fans’ votes as one-third of the official tally, also taking votes from active players and coaches. If the Saints continue to flourish down the stretch, Lattimore should be joined by plenty of his teammates.
