Arkansas guard Keyon Menifield to enter transfer portal

Arkansas sophomore guard Keyon Menifield to enter transfer portal

According to multiple reports, Arkansas guard Keyon Menifield has entered the transfer portal after only one season with the Razorbacks program.

Menifield, who transferred from Washington last offseason, appeared in 14 games with the Razorbacks during the 2023-24 season, four of which he started. A year in which the Razorbacks went 16-17 overall, as well as 6-12 in SEC play, Menifield averaged a combined 7.9 PPG, 2.1 RPG, and 1.6 APG, while also shooting 31.7% from three, as well as 74.3% from the free throw line.

Prior to Arkansas, Menifield started 21-of-32 games at Washington during the 2022-23 season as a freshman, averaging 10 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 3.1 APG, and 1.1 SPG. Menifield also shot 41% from the field that season, as well as 33% from three, and helped lead the Huskies that year to a combined 16-16 overall record.

The sophomore guard will now have three years of eligibility remaining, and is one of the SEC’s biggest names to enter their name in the transfer portal so far this offseason.

Vanderbilt forward Lee Dort to reportedly enter transfer portal

Vanderbilt forward Lee Dort is reportedly set to enter the NCAA transfer portal following Jerry Stackhouse’s departure.

According to multiple reports, Vanderbilt forward Lee Dort is set to enter the transfer portal after two seasons with the Commodores.

Dort, a sophomore forward, appeared in only one game off the Commodores bench this season, as well as 18 total across his two seasons with Vanderbilt. Across the last two years, Dort has averaged a combined 1.7 PPG and 2.1 RPG in limited action, with each of his 18 games played coming off the bench.

Formerly the headline prospect from Vanderbilt’s 2022 recruiting class, Dort is a former four-star prospect out of Greenhill School in Texas, ranked as the No. 105 overall player for that cycle.

This news comes a day after the Commodores reportedly parted ways with head coach Jerry Stackhouse after five seasons at the helm of the Vanderbilt program. Dort is the first Vanderbilt player to announce his intention to enter the transfer portal following the news of Stackhouse’s departure – although more are expected to do so in the coming days.

UCLA wide receiver Kyle Ford enters transfer portal

Kyle Ford in the portal.

A Bruin is on the move.

Senior wide receiver Kyle Ford has entered the transfer portal. Ford, who only appeared in 12 games, is looking to find a new home. Joining the team in 2023 as a transfer from rival USC, Ford is transferring yet again.

A rather underwhelming output for the Bruins, the 6′ 3″ wideout only accumulated 236 yards on 22 catches and one touchdown. Opting for a graduate season, Ford hopes to find a place where he can showcase his skills better. Where Ford lands remains unknown.

Though losing any player to the transfer portal is difficult, Ford only started two games against Costal Carolina and USC last season, making him more expendable to the Bruins than some of their other receivers.

The Bruins still have a rather robust receiver room. Losing Ford means losing veteran leadership in the locker room but also an ability to let younger players shine.

With DeShaun Foster and Eric Bieniemy heading the offense now in Westwood, the Bruins are banking on finding some hidden gems on the depth chart to make a big impact in 2024 and put some points on the board in the BIG 10.

Dismissed LSU women’s basketball player Kateri Poole enters transfer portal

Kateri Poole, who appeared in 35 games on last year’s national title-winning squad, was dismissed in December.

Former LSU women’s basketball guard [autotag]Kateri Poole[/autotag], who was dismissed from the program in December, has entered the transfer portal and intends to continue her basketball career.

That news was first reported by college basketball insider Talia Goodman of The Next.

A junior from the Bronx who arrived at LSU as a transfer from Ohio State before the 2022-23 season, Poole was a key role player on last year’s national title-winning squad. She appeared in 35 games with six starts while averaging 4.5 points and 2.6 rebounds.

She only appeared in four games this season, however. Her final appearance came in a win over Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 17. On Dec. 10, coach [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] announced she had been dismissed from the team for undisclosed reasons.

Poole averaged 2 points and 1.8 rebounds across her four appearances this season.

Poole is entering the portal as a graduate transfer.

Texas A&M has reportedly reached out to former Penn guard

It has been reported that Texas A&M has contacted former Penn guard Clark Slajchert through the transfer portal

Texas A&M’s 2023-2024 season is still ongoing. The Aggies are on the cusp of earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament with a favorable showing in this week’s SEC Tournament, starting with a rematch vs. Ole Miss on Thursday night.

However, if A&M fails to make the 68-team field, the NIT is always an option, but focusing on adding productive veterans through the transfer portal is much more palatable for most of the fan base. Already hard at work, On3 has reported that Aggies head coach Buzz Williams has reached out to highly productive former senior Penn guard Clark Slajchert, a California native.

Finishing at a disappointing 11-18 on year the year, the Quakers may have struggled as a team, but Clark Slajchert was tremendous from the field, averaging a team-high 18.0 points per game while shooting an impressive 42% from 3-point range.

Heading into the offseason, nothing is set in stone regarding the Aggies roster, as the departures of Tyrece Radford, Henry Coleman III, and Andersson Garcia are certainly tough; guards Wade Taylor IV, Manny Obaseki, and sophomore forward Solomon Washington are all slated to return with added experience under their belts.

While Williams will likely bank on guard Jace Carter to improve from beyond the arc, adding a proven shooter and ball handler like Slajchert is a no-brainer for a team that finished the regular season shooting an abysmal 27% from three.

All-ACC first teamer Hunter Sallis latest transfer portal success for Steve Forbes at Wake Forest

Hunter Sallis was named to the All-ACC first team, another successful transfer portal guard addition for Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes.

Wake Forest junior guard Hunter Sallis was among the five players selected to the All-ACC first team on Monday, becoming the third consecutive Demon Deacons guard to earn that honor after transferring to Steve Forbes’ team.

Sallis, who spent the first two years of his career out west at Gonzaga, was joined on the All-ACC first team by RJ Davis at North Carolina, PJ Hall at Clemson, Kyle Filipowski at Duke, and Blake Hinson at Pitt.

This has become a trend at Wake Forest under coach Forbes. First it was Jake Laravia, who transferred from Indiana State and earned All-ACC honors in 2021-22 – and was selected 19th overall in the 2022 NBA draft. Then it was Tyree Appleby, a grad transfer from Florida who averaged 18.8 points for the Demon Deacons in 2022-23 on his way to an All-ACC nod as well.

Now the honor goes to Sallis, who paced Wake Forest in scoring at 18.3 points per night, while adding 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.0 steals per game on 41.6% shooting from three – a huge increase from the 25.8% he shot from distance in two years with the Zags.

Wake’s second leading scorer this year is Kevin Miller, another transfer guard coming over from Central Michigan and averaging 15.4 points per game.

Forbes’ success with transfer portal guards is no accident, as he has been able to find players who fit his system and help them thrive both offensively and defensively.

However, the influx of talented guards has yet to result in an NCAA Tournament for the Demon Deacons under Forbes, and this year’s team is squarely on the bubble heading into the ACC Tournament which gets underway this week.

Texas A&M should pursue the former Duke OL who recently entered the transfer portal

Should former Duke OL Scott Elliott follow his former Duke HC Mike Elko to Texas A&M? Obviously

In the first two months of Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko’s first offseason with the program, he has had incredible success through the transfer portal, acquiring 22 veterans, which has stood out among the rest of the SEC outside of Ole Miss.

After several position groups had already been rebuilt, including what was a weak cornerback rotation in 2023, the offensive line returned nearly every starter outside or right guard, Layden Robinson. Still, it could use even more depth while creating added competition during spring/fall camp.

This week, it was reported that former Duke center/guard Scott Elliott, who appeared in 10 games at center last season under Elko during his final year leading the Blue Devils, entered the transfer portal with one season of eligibility remaining.

Standing at 6-3 and nearly 300 pounds, Elliott transferred to Duke last season after three years at Harvard, graduating from the prestigious University last May. Looking ahead, Texas A&M’s starting center spot is currently manned by redshirt junior Bryce Foster, who struggled for a majority of his starts in 2023.

Even more notable, Elliott’s experience with new Texas A&M O-line coach Adam Cushing should be a big draw, as Cushing followed Elko from Duke after last season.

Pepperdine star Houston Mallette among first big transfer portal targets

Pepperdine guard Houston Mallette has reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal, among the first college basketball stars to do so.

One day after it was announced the Pepperdine Waves were firing longtime head coach Lorenzo Romar, star junior guard Houston Mallette reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal to look for a new school to play out his final year of college basketball eligibility.

Mallette is one of many outstanding players to have played for Romar at Pepperdine – although the influx of talent did nothing to help the Waves in the win column: an unfortunate trend that followed Romar his entire career particularly while as the head coach of the Washington Huskies.

Mallette just wrapped the best season of his career in 2023-24, averaging a career-high 14.7 points along with 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting a blistering hot 41.5% from beyond the arc.

Mallette’s former teammate, Mike Mitchell Jr, transferred last offseason to Minnesota where he averaged 10.6 points and 2.7 assists while shooting an even 40% from three, so certainly a handful of Power-6 programs will take a look at Mallette and his sharp shooting ways this offseason.

Mallette initially committed to Penn State in 2020 before decommitting and enrolling at Pepperdine, and the 6’5 guard from Newport Beach also had interest from Washington State, James Madison, and Santa Barbara out of high school.

Additionally, programs like Washington, USC, San Diego State, and Colorado who are expected to lose multiple backcourt players after this season could show interest as well.

Mississippi State guard Andrew Taylor reportedly enters transfer portal

Mississippi State guard enters transfer portal

According to multiple reports, Mississippi State guard Andrew Taylor has entered the transfer portal after only one season in Starkville in which he appeared in a limited number of games.

Taylor, who transferred to Mississippi State after four seasons at Marshall this past offseason, appeared in seven games with the Bulldogs earlier this season, each of which he came off the bench. Across those seven games, Taylor averaged 3.9 PPG, 1.4 RPG, and 1.3 APG, as well as 40% from the field and 40% from three.

Prior to Mississippi State, Taylor averaged a combined 14.6 PPG, 5 RPG, 4.1 APG, and 1.8 SPG across four seasons at Marshall, along with a 35.5 3P% and a 75.7% mark from the free throw line. Likely the best single-season for Taylor at Marshall was his 2022-23 campaign in which he averaged 20.2 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 4.7 APG, and 2.1 SPG on 36.4% shooting from three prior to transferring to Mississippi State.

The former Mississippi State and Marshall guard now enters the portal as a graduate transfer.

Washington’s best players in 2023: No. 6 Jabbar Muhammad

The Washington Huskies got stellar play from cornerback Jabbar Muhammad who helped anchor the Husky defense in 2023.

The Washington Huskies defense had its fair share of struggles in 2023, but one player who always came through in big moments was cornerback Jabbar Muhammad.

Throughout Washington’s run to the national championship, Muhammad was tasked with lining up against the opposition’s top receiver and put up some excellent numbers. In the Pac-12 championship, he held Oregon’s Troy Franklin to 4 receptions for 34 yards and in the Sugar Bowl, Texas’ Xavier Worthy pulled in just two catches for 45 yards while battling the product of DeSoto, Texas.

Muhammad had the best game of his college career in Washington’s 22-20 victory over No. 10 Oregon State in Corvallis. He generated 3 turnovers with 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery, along with 4 pass breakups and allowed a 0.0 passer rating when targeted according to Pro Football Focus.

On the season, Muhammad totaled 46 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 14 pass breakups which earned him a spot on the All-Pac-12 second team.

After weighing his options between the NFL draft and returning to school for one more season, the former Oklahoma State transfer opted to utilize the portal once again following Kalen DeBoer’s departure for Alabama. He ended up transferring to Oregon to play with coach Dan Lanning in his final college season.
