Steelers vs Patriots: Takeaways from another disappointing loss

There’s very little you can take from Thursday’s loss that doesn’t point to Pittsburgh’s season being over.

Thursday night marked the second game in a row the Pittsburgh Steelers lost at home to a team that was at least eight games under .500. A remarkable feat in all the worst ways for a team in a spiral. The Steelers are now 7-6 and out of the playoff picture and there are no answers on the horizon. Here are our takeaways from the loss to the New England Patriots.

Steelers sputter vs. Patriots to earn second straight home loss

The Steelers fell flat again on Thursday night.

It was clear watching the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night against the New England Patriots that they learned nothing from the previous week’s blowout loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Pittsburgh came out flat, listless and uninspired, and let a 2-10 Patriots team jump out to a big lead from which a scattershot Steelers team couldn’t come back.

With the 21-18 loss, Pittsburgh falls to 7-6. Depending on what happens this weekend, they could find themselves on the outside looking in for a spot in the playoffs. But at this point, that might not be the worst thing. There isn’t a top team in the AFC that is afraid of this Steelers team.

After the game, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the difference was the Patriots getting seven points off of a turnover while the Steelers got zero off their takeaway. That’s nonsense. If this team is as good as its record, there’s no reason this game should have come down to that. The Steelers lost because they don’t know how to win. And this is players, coaches and everyone.

Now the Steelers get a mini bye week to prepare for the Indianapolis Colts on the road on Saturday, Dec. 16.

Twitter rips Steelers after miserable performance vs the Patriots

The Stelers are taking a ton of criticism after Thursday’s loss to the Patriots.

Social media is heartless and when the Pittsburgh Steelers put up another miserable performance this week, everyone came for them on X (formerly known as Twitter). The Steelers fell 21-18 to the New England Patriots and just gave the game away. Here are some of the best posts after the loss.

Steelers LB Alex Highsmith OUT with neck injury

The Steelers will not get Alex Highsmith back Thursday night.

If the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to come back and beat the New England Patriots, they will have to do it without outside linebacker Alex Highsmith. Highsmith suffered a neck injury early in the first half and after initially being questionable has been downgraded to OUT for the rest of the game.

This is in addition to fellow starting outside linebacker T.J. Watt who took a huge hit to the head on the opening defensive drive and has been on and off the field, and you can see he is not playing at 100 percent.

Compounding this issue is the fact that The Steelers deactivated veteran outside linebacker Markus Golden before this game. That means the bulk of the snaps will be rookie Nick Herbig and neither he nor Watt are going to get any rest.

Twitter reacts to the poor start by Steelers QB Mitch Trubisky

Mitch Trubisky is having a horrible first half and Twitter is letting him know.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky has gotten off to a terrible start and Twitter is not holding back. Here are some of the best reactions so far.

Steelers vs Patriots: 3 keys to victory this week

The Steelers have to be sure not to forget about Ezekiel Elliott this week.

After last week’s debacle, the Pittsburgh Steelers should never take any opponent for granted. So when the New England Patriots come to town on Thursday night, they need to treat it like they are going against a Super Bowl contender. Here are the keys to victory for the Steelers in this week’s prime-time matchup.

NFL experts going all in on the Steelers beating the Patriots

The experts think the Steelers will beat the Cardinals this week.

Despite a blowout loss last week to the Arizona Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Steelers are heavily favored this week against the New England Patriots. This probably says more about the state of the Patriots than the Steelers at this point.

Most NFL pundits are leaning in on the Steelers finding a way to bounce back this week and beat the 2-10 Patriots. We look to NFL Pick Watch for the latest info on what experts from all over the internet are thinking about this week’s game.

Pundits are currently taking the Steelers 96 percent of the time with the Patriots only getting four percent of the expert picks.

Pittsburgh fell to 7-5 last week but one thing head coach Mike Tomlin is known for is not losing back-to-back games so we expect the team to rally and not lose two games in a row to bad football teams.

Steelers vs Patriots: 4 bold predictions for this week’s game

We predict Mitch Trubisky and T.J. Watt both have big games on Thursday night.

We’ve gotten to the point that we worry about giving the Pittsburgh Steelers the benefit of the doubt on anything when it comes to any sort of optimistic predictions. Nevertheless I’m going to try and the Steelers look to bounce back this Thursday night against the 2-10 New England Patriots.

2 Steelers starting offensive linemen listed as questionable vs the Patriots

We expect all the questionable players to be game-time decisions this week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense is going to have its work cut out for it on Thursday when they take on the New England Patriots. New England has one of the better defenses in the NFL and the Steelers could be shorthanded on offense at multiple spots.

We already knew the Steelers would be without starting quarterback Kenny Pickett. But according to the team’s final injury report ahead of Thursday’s game, the team could be minus more offensive players against New England.

Starting left guard Isaac Seumalo and starting center Mason Cole are both listed as questionable. Suemalo went out in last week’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals on the same play Pickett was injured on and was unable to return. It isn’t clear if he will be able to push through that shoulder injury.

Cole’s injury is something of a mystery. He was listed as limited all week with a neck injury but he spoke to the media this week and seemed fine.

If Cole and Seumalo cannot go, Nick Herbig would start at center and this would mean rookie guard Spencer Anderson could get his first NFL start.
