  • Money line: West Virginia -350 (bet $350 to win $100) | TCU +280 (bet $100 to win $280)

  • Over/Under: 147.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

West Virginia at TCU: Three things to know

  1. The Mountaineers are in Texas for the back half of a Lonestar State double. West Virginia defeated the Texas Longhorns, 84-82, on Saturday. The game marked WVU’s second one-possession game in a row (91-90 overtime loss to Oklahoma on Feb. 20) and another high-scoring performance for a Mountaineer offense that has cranked out 84.4 points per game since Jan. 25.
  2. Texas Christian heads into this contest off back-to-back losses and having scored just 109 total points in those games. TCU has been held under 56 points five times in its last eight games. For the season, the Horned Frogs are averaging 68.3 PPG (eighth Big 12).
  3. West Virginia has won five road games in a row. The Mountaineers are 4-1 against the spread over those five tilts. In away games overall, WVU ranks top-30 in the nation in offensive rebounding percentage, free-throw rate, and 3-point accuracy.

West Virginia at TCU: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

West Virginia 79, TCU 71

Money line (ML)

WVU is the lean in principle and the lean to win this contest by at least a couple of possessions. But the price on TCU is approaching value territory. Anything approaching +300 for the home five would make for a margin worth pursuing.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Mountaineers play at a top-third pace, and that tempo factor played into a few TCU setbacks this winter. The Frogs are 1-7 ATS in their last eight on home hardwood.

In a game that figures to hit 150 total points, WVU’s significant edge in second-chance, perimeter, and free-throw points add up to a solid 7-to-9-point win. The margin is slim on its current number, but the lean is on WEST VIRGINIA -7.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over is 10-1 in WVU’s last 11 overall. TCU averaged 85 PPG over three contests preceding its two recent low-scoring games.

TAKE THE OVER 147.5 (-110).

CFP National Championship Prop Bet Payday: 5 Ohio State prop predictions

Highlighting five college football prop bet predictions for Ohio State in the CFP National Championship against Alabama.

The Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0) take on the Alabama Crimson Tide (12-0) in the CFP National Championship Monday night. The game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., kicks off at 8 p.m. ET. Below, we give five Ohio State prop bet predictions for the National Championship from the BetMGM game menu.

CFP National Championship: Ohio State prop bet predictions

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 10 a.m. ET.

RB Trey Sermon UNDER 36.5 receiving yards (-110)

Sermon caught four passes for 61 yards in the CFP Semifinal against Clemson. That included a long of 34. Prior to that game, Sermon had 34 yards on eight catches for the season.

Ohio State used a check-down option way more in the Clemson game plan than it had in any other situation in recent memory. Three-quarters of the Buckeyes’ throws to backs are essentially the modern equivalent of outside runs.

Sermon OVER 99.5 rushing yards (-110)

The transfer from Oklahoma didn’t immediately gel as part of the Buckeyes offense but Sermon broke through with a program-record 331-yard game against Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game Dec. 19. He rambled for 193 yards in the Sugar Bowl.

Sermon got 60 carries over those two games, he’s running behind a top-shelf offensive line, and OSU is going to want to engineer methodical 10-play drives more so than normal in an effort to keep Alabama’s circus offense off the field.

QB Justin Fields took a hard hit against Clemson, and may not be 100% — either to engineer all-passing drives or to be as active in the read-option run game.

Special National Championship Betting Promotion!

Buckeyes OVER 34.5 points (+105)

This tag is pretty fair for an Ohio State offense that was rolling Jan. 1. In fact, the Buckeyes have rolled over this total in six of their seven games. Yes, this is Alabama, and there is some risk, but the +105 price is a nice reward.

The Ryan Day offense/QB coaching and the emergence of Sermon — together with an offensive line finding its best gear of late — make for some value.

TE Jeremy Ruckert (+1000)/TE Luke Farrell (+3500) to score 1st TD of the game

Ruckert has 12 catches on the season; Farrell has five. Both scored against Clemson in the Sugar Bowl (Ruckert caught two TD passes), and the tight end position is a key in this game on both sides of the ball.

The Buckeyes run a lot of plays out of two-tight-end sets and Fields is a quarterback who gets comfortable with certain receivers in spurts. Tag both Ruckert and Farrell as value plays in the first-touchdown prop.

Parlay: Buckeyes MONEY LINE and game total UNDER 60.5 (+1300)

Ohio State is +265 on the money line, and the game is tagged with a high 74.5 total. The payoff for a zag-zag parlay — going against the grain on both plays —  is 13-to-1.

It’s a play on some chaos perhaps — on a couple or three late-drive turnovers and a couple of red-zone defensive stops. It is after all the title game for the 2020 season: this would be a very 2020 combo to hit on.

National Championship Prop Bet Payday: Alabama vs. Ohio State prop predictions

Ohio State RB Trey Sermon To Score A TD (-300)

It’s a little steeper than I’d like to risk normally, but it’s a holiday…err, the national title game. Sermon didn’t really do much of note in the team’s first four games, rushing 45 times for 232 yards and no touchdowns. He gobbled up 112 yards and a touchdown in the regular-season finale at Michigan State (Dec. 5), and then he broke out for 331 rushing yards and two scores in the Big Ten Championship Game against Northwestern.

Sermon also ran angrily against Clemson in the CFP Semifinal in New Orleans, gashing the Tigers for 193 yards at 6.2 yards per tote with a touchdown. Head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes will lean upon the Georgia native heavily against the Tide.

Alabama QB Mac Jones UNDER 14.5 rushing yards (-110)

This prop seems a little on the high side. Jones posted a season-high 12 rushing yards against Notre Dame in the CFP Semifinal on New Year’s Day, as running the football is just not his thing. Jones actually ran 31 times for just three net positive yards all season with one rushing touchdown at Tennessee Oct. 24.

Yes, sack yardage counts against rushing yardage, and that makes this an even more attractive prop. Ohio State has recorded 19 sacks for 122 yards across its seven games.

Special National Championship Betting Promotion!

Bet $1 on either Ohio State or Alabama‘s money line, WIN $100 (in free bets) IF either team scores a touchdown. Offer available in CO, IA, IN, NJ, PA, TN and WV. PA residents, don’t miss BetMGM‘s risk-free first-bet offer. MI residents, BetMGM is coming to your state soon — take advantage of early registration promotions!

Ohio State TE Luke Farrell UNDER 15.5 receiving yards (-110)

In the CFP Semifinal against Clemson it was TE Jeremy Ruckert who surprised with three receptions for 55 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He now has at least three receptions, at least 25 receiving yards and a total of five touchdown grabs over the past three outings.

Farrell has been lost in the shuffle, going for just five receptions, 37 yards and one touchdown in his four appearances this season. He found the end zone against the Tigers, but he had just 11 yards on two grabs. Expect a similar result and an Under ticket to cash.

Alabama -0.5 – 1st Quarter Spread (-140)

There is a little extra juice attached to this prop, but it’s a good play. Alabama led after the first quarter in 10 of its 12 games this season, including each of the previous eight. In the other two where the Tide wasn’t leading, it was tied 7-7 against Georgia Oct. 17, and 7-7 against Mississippi Oct. 10.

Over the past eight games, ‘Bama has outscored the opposition 104-16 after the first 15 minutes. The Crimson Tide roll to early leads. It’s just what they do, and the CFP title game will be no different.

Alternate Line Parlay – Ohio State +10.5 and Over 55.5 Points (+105)

Ohio State isn’t going to get run out of the building against Alabama, as it comes in with plenty of confidence after exorcising its demons against Clemson last weekend.

While ‘Bama boasts a Heisman finalist in Jones, the Heisman winner in WR DeVonta Smith, and a cadre of NFL-ready players like usual, the Buckeyes have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, too. They’re not going to be fazed by the bright lights, and it isn’t their first rodeo, either. Look for the Buckeyes to keep it within one score before the dust settles, and for the points to be rather plentiful, too.

National Championship betting: Money line (ML)

The money line simply asks for which team will win the game and includes the possibility of overtime.

Favored Alabama has an implied win probability of 75% with -300 money line odds. Those odds can also be expressed as a fraction of 1/3 or a decimal of 1.33. It would take a $300 bet for a profit of $100 with a win by the Crimson Tide.

Underdog Ohio State’s +240 money line odds represent an implied win probability of 29.41%. The fractional odds are 12/5 with 3.40 decimal odds. A $100 bet would return a profit of $240 with an upset win.

National Championship betting: Against the spread (ATS)

The spread of 8.5 points carries equal -110 odds for both teams ($110 bet for $100 profit). Alabama will need to win by at least 9 points. Ohio State can cover its side of the spread by winning outright or staying within 8 points in a loss.

Alternate spreads exist for each half or exclusively the first quarter. The spread can be altered from 10.5 to 21.5 to make the result more or less likely for either team. The higher the probability, the lower the odds will be for a potential payout.

Increasing the degree of difficulty with a spread of -10 for Alabama to win by at least 11 points comes with more profitable odds of +100 or even-money. An Alabama win by exactly 10 points would result in a push and all bets on either side would be refunded in full.

National Championship betting: Over/Under (O/U)

The Over/Under of 75.5 asks whether the final score of the game would combine to be higher or lower than 75.5 points. Any combined score of 76 or more points (i.e., 40-36) would be a win for Over bettors. A combined score of 75 or fewer points (i.e., 38-37) would be a win for Under bettors.

Just like the spread, alternate lines are available and each team’s individual point total can be bet separately.

National Championship betting: Prop bets

Props are available in the form of Yes/No questions such as “Will there be a safety in the game?” or “Will the game go into overtime?”

These can offer much higher odds on one side or the other, but remember, the more profitable the odds, the lower the probability of that result.

National Championship betting: Live betting

BetMGM has an excellent mobile sports betting app which allows users to place bets once the game is underway. Following along and placing a bet after a big play or an injury can offer great value when disagreeing with the sportsbook’s lines.

A pregame favorite such as Alabama can suddenly come with more profitable odds if Ohio State happens to jump out to the early lead.

Alabama vs. Ohio State: Three things to know

  • Alabama posted 49.7 points per game to rank second in the nation, and they checked in fifth in the country in both total yards per game (543.9) and passing yards per game (354.1). QB Mac Jones threw for a school record 4,036 passing yards, and Heisman Trophy WR DeVonta Smith was on the receiving end for 105 receptions, 1,641 yards and 20 touchdowns. The Crimson Tide could welcome back WR Jaylen Waddle (ankle). He had 25 receptions for 557 yards and four touchdowns in his first four games before he was injured on the opening kickoff against Tennessee on Oct. 24.
  • There were reports this game could be pushed back to Jan. 18 due to player availability concerns for Ohio State stemming from COVID-19 issues, but OSU, Alabama and the SEC are all planning to play Monday, Jan. 11. Big Ten officials are the only ones to raise concerns about the Buckeyes playing at this point due to a potential shortage of personnel.
  • The last time these teams played, Ohio State dropped Alabama 42-35 in the 2014-15 Sugar Bowl before topping Oregon in the National Championship. Alabama is looking for its first title since pushing past Georgia in a 26-23 overtime win Jan. 8, 2018.

Alabama vs. Ohio State: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Alabama 45, Ohio State 34

Money line (ML)

Alabama (-300) will cost you three times your potential return, and that’s just too risky for me. There is just no value there, so look to the spread instead. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

ALABAMA -8.5 (-110) is a machine on offense, as the Jones to Smith connection has been amazing. If the Crimson Tide are able to get Waddle back into the mix, too, that’s going to be too much for Ohio State to handle.

The Buckeyes offense looked amazing in topping Clemson in the national semifinal. RB Trey Sermon ran wild, QB Justin Fields displayed pinpoint accuracy and the defense did its job. Ohio State also entered with a chip on its shoulder, as it felt disrespected by Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney, who ranked them No. 11 due to a lack of games played.

‘Bama head coach Nick Saban isn’t giving them anything to feel disrespected about, although his daughter might need her phone taken away. She offered an opinion that the COVID-19 concerns for the Buckeyes were fabricated in order to give Fields some extra time to recover from a mid-body injury.

The Tide will “roll” up huge points on offense, and the Buckeyes will fade in the second half. Back Alabama to win by at least 9 points.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 74.5 (-115) is worth a play outdoors on the fast track at Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida. The weather will be nice, and conditions optimum for the two sides to show off their speed. Both sides have plenty of speed to burn.

It will be an entertaining, and high-scoring first half, so betting OVER 37.5 (-130) on the first half line is certainly warranted, too.
