Georgia basketball forward Jalen Deloach commits to Atlantic 10 school

Georgia basketball forward Jalen Deloach is returning to the Atlantic 10 conference

The Georgia Bulldogs forward Jalen Deloach has committed to the Loyola Chicago Ramblers after one season at Georgia. Deloach is electing to transfer away from Georgia after the Bulldogs went 20-17 and advanced to the National Invitational Tournament final.

Deloach played an average 12.8 minutes per game for Georgia this season. He averaged 3.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Deloach is likely transferring in hopes of having a bigger role in the rotation.

Deloach is a second-time transfer. He previously started 32 games as a sophomore at VCU.  The lengthy forward averaged 9.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in his final season with the VCU Rams. That year, the Rams won the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Deloach returns to the Atlantic 10 conference with Loyola and will face his former team in 2024-2025.

Loyola is coming off a strong 2023-2024 basketball season. The Ramblers won a share of the Atlantic 10 conference during the regular season, but fell in their conference tournament and missed the NCAA Tournament.

ESPN names Kirby Smart top coach of next decade

After the exits of Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh, ESPN’s Bill Connelly sees Kirby Smart as the clear favorite to be the top coach in defining the next decade of college football.

Following the retirement of Nick Saban and NFL departure from Jim Harbaugh, the coaching overhaul in college football has left questions as to who will step up and replace such prominent voices. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart’s résumé would make him a clear favorite, a sentiment echoed by ESPN’s Bill Connelly in his recent rankings of the “30 coaches who will define the next decade of college football” (ESPN+ subscription required to access).

Smart was placed atop the rankings, in the tier of “Successful head coaches with plenty of tread left on the tires”. Connelly cites Smart’s success in relation to other former Saban assistants, as well as the fact that he has not lost to a non-Saban coached team since 2020. His two national titles are tied for the lead among active coaches and Georgia’s relentless recruiting makes it all the more likely that Kirby Smart will stay ranked No. 1. “He’s the top dawg in this sport”, writes Connelly.

Smart’s coaching tree also has a presence on the list, with Oregon head coach and former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning ranking No. 7 overall and current defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann ranking at the top among assistant coaches.

Two experts predict Georgia Bulldogs to land four-star edge rusher

On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons have both officially predicted the Bulldogs as the favorite to land a highly rated edge rusher

Coming off of a visit to Athens this past weekend, multiple projections have been logged in favor of a highly touted class of 2025 recruit landing with the Georgia Bulldogs. On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons have both officially predicted edge rusher Darren Ikinnagbon to commit to UGA.

“From the staff, to the vibe, to meeting Coach Smart and talking ball, seeing how UGA wants to utilize him, those are all enticing things to Ikinnagbon,” noted Wiltfong. Simmons added, “Since visiting Georgia for the first time, the Bulldogs have been viewed as the team to beat.” Penn State, Ohio State, and Notre Dame are also heavily involved in Ikinnagbon’s recruitment.

Ikinnagbon is listed as a 6-foot-5, 251-pound edge rusher/defensive lineman out of Hillside, New Jersey. In addition to football, he also wrestles and has experience running track and playing basketball at Hillside High School. He finished his junior season with 52 tackles, 13 tackles-for-loss, and five sacks for the year. He would join Stephon Shivers as the second defensive line recruit in the Bulldogs’ current class of 2025.

Georgia basketball contributor plans to enter transfer portal

Georgia basketball has officially seen their first likely departure of the 2024 offseason via the transfer portal.

The Georgia Bulldogs have officially seen their first expected departure of the offseason via the NCAA transfer portal. Forward Jalen Deloach will reportedly be entering the portal after one season at Georgia, which he confirmed this afternoon on X.

Deloach averaged 12.8 minutes per game as a contributor for the Dawgs this season, scoring 3.6 points per game along with 3.3 rebounds per game. He figures to target a school where he can compete for a bigger role in the rotation. He is a second-time transfer, having previously started 32 games in his second and final year at Virginia Commonwealth, where he averaged 9.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game on a team that won the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

This leaves Georgia with nine scholarship players who are eligible to return for next season, including four starters. More moves both in and out of the program are expected as Georgia looks to enter year four under Mike White with a more talented lineup.

Former NFL GM names Georgia Bulldogs WR as NFL draft sleeper

Former Minnesota Vikings general manager names Georgia Bulldogs WR draft sleeper, compares him to Packers standout receiver

Former Minnesota Viking general manager (2012-2021) Rick Spielman has named former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint as one of his 2024 NFL draft sleepers.

“Someone may hit on him late in the draft. He’s going to make big plays that you don’t expect coming from him,” Spielman said.

Rosemy-Jacksaint brings an impressive combination of size, hands and catch radius to the table. He showed excellent consistency throughout his college career and improved every season.

Spielman considers the 6-foot-1, 195-pound receiver to be a late Saturday pick (fifth-round or later). He likes Rosemy-Jacksaint’s athleticism and what he can do after the catch.

Spielman compares Rosemy-Jacksaint to Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, which is high praise. Wicks, a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, recorded 581 receiving yards and four touchdowns as a rookie.

The former Georgia standout helped his NFL draft stock thanks to an impressive week at the Senior Bowl. Rosemy-Jacksaint scored a 29-yard touchdown in the Senior Bowl on a contested catch.

During his final season in Athens, Rosemy-Jacksaint caught 34 passes for 535 yards and four touchdowns. The senior receiver has proved to be a reliable target for Georgia football and rarely dropped passes. Rosemy-Jacksaint is also an excellent run blocker. He finished his four-year Georgia  career with 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns.

Here’s what Spielman had to say about Rosemy-Jacksaint:

Rosemy-Jacksaint hopes to be selected in the draft, which will be held April 25-27 in Detroit, Michigan.

Current and former Bulldog each named as spring standouts

247Sports’ Josh Pate named an incoming Georgia Bulldogs transfer as well as one left in the winter as standouts at their respective programs through early practices.

In a review of spring intel from various different programs around the country, 247Sports’ Josh Pate named an incoming Georgia transfer as well as one transferred to a Big Ten school as standouts at their respective programs through early practices.

On the Georgia side, Pate highlighted Colbie Young, the wide receiver transfer from Miami. “Colbie Young has been really good at wide receiver this spring. They’ll be able to count on him. He can be a go-to option for them,” said Pate. Young has garnered incessant praise this spring from numerous other sources and drawn comparisons to former Bulldogs star George Pickens as well as fellow former Miami transfer Lawrence Cager.

Pate also praised former Georgia cornerback A.J. Harris, now in Happy Valley at Penn State. “Georgia cornerback transfer A.J. Harris (has) drawn really, really good reviews. That’s who you should be focused on,” said Pate.

Harris was a five-star recruit in the class of 2023 and transferred after a season in Athens. He could be in position to take on a major role for a Penn State team that is seeking to replace cornerbacks Kalen King and Daequan Hardy, both of whom are expected to be drafted this April.

Mount St. Mary’s star transfer names top four schools

The Bulldogs are in need of incoming guard production in light of the exit of Noah Thomasson and the uncertainty surrounding freshman Silas Demary Jr.

A highly coveted basketball transfer target has named Georgia to his top four. De’Shayne Montgomery, a guard who played his freshman year at Mount St. Mary’s, named the Dawgs alongside Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Southern California.

Montgomery is originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is listed at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds and is coming off of a breakout season for the Mountaineers. He averaged 13.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, while coming on strong toward the end of the year where he scored over 24 points in four of the final five games. He was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rookie of the year for his performance.

The Bulldogs and head coach Mike White are in dire need of incoming guard production in light of the exit of Noah Thomasson and the uncertainty surrounding freshman Silas Demary Jr. Montgomery would bring immediate experience and production as the Dawgs look to become contenders in the SEC, where they finished 11th this year.

Georgia freshman quarterback limited by injury through spring practice

Freshman quarterback Ryan Puglisi has been hampered by a knee injury through practice

Kirby Smart spoke to the media on Tuesday and gave an update on the health status of one quarterback vying for the backup job. Freshman quarterback Ryan Puglisi has been hampered by a non-serious knee injury through practice, somewhat limiting his ability to fully participate thus far.

Smart clarified Puglisi’s status, saying “Ryan is dealing with a little bit of a knee injury. It’s not a significant injury. He’s had it before, since high school. It has been bothering him. He’s been able to throw. He hasn’t been able to go out and be mobile and run.”

It is good news for the Bulldogs that Puglisi has been able to throw thus far, though Smart did confirm he has “had to miss out on some reps.”

Puglisi was recruited as a four-star quarterback from Avon, Connecticut. He has been praised not only for his talent but also for his competitive nature, showcased during the recruitment process in his decision to stay with Georgia through the entire process despite Dylan Raiola’s initial commitment to play for the Bulldogs.
