All duds, no studs in Cardinals’ 27-0 loss to Browns

It was a complete dud of a performance on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals suffered their worst loss of the season on Sunday, a 27-0 drubbing to the Cleveland Browns in which they gained only 58 yards of offense.

There were no real good performances. While the defense was passable, no one stood out for their play.

So rather than looking at the studs and duds in the loss, all we have are duds.

Cardinals’ O-line suffers more injuries as Kyler Murray’s return nears

Already down Elijah Wilkinson and Trystan Colon, Will Hernandez and D.J. Humphries both got hurt on Sunday against the Browns.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is expected to make his return to the starting lineup this next week when the team hosts the Atlanta Falcons. However, he might have to play behind an offensive line not at full strength.

Two more linemen got hurt in the team’s 27-0 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Starting right guard Will Hernandez left the game with a knee injury and left tackle D.J. Humphries exited with an ankle injury.

That is on top of Elijah Wilkinson, who started at left guard for the first six games of the season, who is on injured reserve with a neck injury, and Trystan Colon who started at left guard in Weeks 7-8 before going down with a calf injury.

Murray is coming back from a torn ACL. The Falcons had four sacks on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Cardinals need Murray back in the lineup, but they also need him protected. Hopefully, the injuries to Hernandez and Humphries are not serious enough to make them miss the game next week.

Clayton Tune’s terrible 1st start one of many in Cardinals history

Tune had 58 passing yards, two interceptions and was sacked seven times.

The Arizona Cardinals had things go about as badly as they could on Sunday in rookie quarterback Clayton Tune’s first career start. They were shut out 27-0 by the Cleveland Browns.

Tune was sacked seven times, threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. He completed 11-of-20 passes for 58 yards and two picks. He finished with a passer rating of 20.8.

Longtime Cardinals fans should be used to quarterbacks making their first start playing poorly.

Let’s look back at a few of the stinkers.

WATCH: This was called offensive pass interference?

Marquise was flagged for OPI without touching a defender.

The Arizona Cardinals mustered only 31 total yards of offense in the first half against the Cleveland Browns. They should have had 26 more yards.

On what was a great throw by quarterback Clayton Tune to Rondale Moore that went for 26 yards, fellow receiver Marquise Brown was called for offensive pass interference.

It was a horrible call.

Check out the play:

It would be offensive pass interference if Brown had run into the defender coming across to cover Moore. As you can see, he didn’t make contact with anyone. It was Denzel Ward, the defender covering Brown, who “interfered” with Cameron Mitchell.

What an egregious mistake by the officials, taking the only real good play for the Cardinals in the first half.

Cardinals’, Clayton Tune’s 1st half is forgettable vs. Browns

The Cardinals managed only 31 yards of offense while giving up 193 to the Browns.

The Arizona Cardinals struggled in the first half against the Cleveland Browns in Clayton Tune’s first career start.

A solid first-half team all season, the Cardinals were unable to do anything on offense.

The Cardinals managed a total of 31 yards on 20 offensive plays.

Tune completed 5-of-8 passes for 22 yards. He was picked off and sacked twice.

Their longest play from scrimmage was Tune’s first pass, a 12-yard completion to Trey McBride.

They had a 26-yard completion nullified by Marquise Brown’s second offensive pass interference penalty of the half, although it was a terrible call by the officials.

Defensively, they allowed the Browns to gain 193 yards, 63 on the ground.
