Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ QB Tom Brady facing minor surgery

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady, 7-time Super Bowl champ and 5-time game MVP, will have knee surgery

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady will have minor surgery on his knee, “a clean up,” the Tampa Bay Times reported Thursday.

 Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

Brady, 43, was named Super Bowl MVP for the fifth time on Sunday as the Buccaneers throttled the defending champion Chiefs, 31-9, at Raymond James Stadium.

Brady threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns. He did not appear bothered by any knee issue during Super Bowl LV.

Per ESPN:

Brady wore a brace on his left knee Wednesday during the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl boat parade Wednesday. But wearing the brace is not uncommon for the 43-year-old Brady, who also wears it when golfing and during other recreational activities.

His counterpart in Super Bowl LV, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes had successful surgery for a turf toe problem on Wednesday.

Tom Brady’s social team wins with recap of Buccaneers’ triumph

Tom Brady’s social team put together another masterful video chronicling the Super Bowl win and ensuing celebration

Tom Brady’s social team is as sharp as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback is at his craft. And they delivered again, summing up the magical run that concluded with his seventh Super Bowl ring.

Starting with Brady and buddies on his boat with the Vince Lombardi Trophy, the video takes you through the victory Sunday in Super Bowl LV with the message: Still here. Never left. To be continued …

All aspects of the celebration are encompassed, including Brady’s toss of the Super Bowl trophy from one boat to another. Harrowing as the trophy could have wound up sinking.

However, when it comes to Brady the pass was a strike.

As good as the video is, nothing will compare to his mini-series with Rob Gronkowski.

Patrick Mahomes to under surgery to repair turf toe

Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes is headed for surgery on his turf toe

Patrick Mahomes will have surgery to repair his turf toe injury, according to a report on Tuesday. The surgery, which will be performed by Dr. Robert Anderson, is scheduled to take place on the former league and Super Bowl MVP on Wednesday.

Mahomes is expected to be ready to go by training camp, according to a source.

Mahomes was 26-of-49 for 270 yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions, and a passer rating of 52.3 in Sunday’s 31-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.

Kansas City failed to score a touchdown for the first time since Mahomes became a starter in 2018. Overall as a starter, he is 38-8. He is 6-2 as a starter for the Chiefs in playoff games.

“Yeah, I can’t say the toe was a problem when I played last week or two weeks ago and I played well on it,” Mahomes said. “It’s something you battle through. You’re playing football you have to battle through injuries. We’ll look at it tomorrow and we’ll make a final decision on if we’re going to have to have surgery on it or not.”

Anderson was the surgeon who handled both Chad Henne’s ankle fracture last year and Taco Charlton’s ankle injury earlier this year.

Super Bowl TV ratings are less than super for CBS

The viewer numbers were down for the 2021 Super Bowl while Internet usage reached an all-time high, according to CBS

The numbers are in for Super Bowl LV’s TV ratings. The overall figures failed to reach 100,000,000 viewers for Viacom/CBS.

Super Bowl LV attracted 96.4 million viewers, the company announced Tuesday, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9.

It’s the lowest watched Super Bowl since 2007, when the Indianapolis Colts played the Chicago Bears, another CBS broadcast. That game attracted 93.1 million viewers, according to Octagon’s media division data.

There is always a positive spin, however. CBS saw growth in Internet streaming. The company said the stream averaged 5.7 million viewers per minute.

This marks the second time in three years the game failed to eclipse 100 million TV viewers. Tom Brady’s last Super Bowl win in 2019 while with the Patriots generated roughly 98.2 million viewers; the lowest since 97.5 million tuned into the 2008 Super Bowl.

The 2015 game between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks remains the most-watched game with roughly 114 million viewers.

As of 2021, out-of-home viewing is now included in traditional Nielsen-reported audience, via Sportsmediawatch.

Tom Brady delivers sensational Instagram Super Bowl LV story

Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady delivered a brilliant Instagram story video tribute to his Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates

Tom Brady must have been up all night and day putting together the captions and music to go along with the Instagram Story the Super Bowl LV MVP dropped Monday.

Or someone on his team was busy pulling it together for the quarterback’s approval. Either way, it worked.

Being the great teammate and leader he is, Brady offered tributes to just about anyone and everyone who had a role in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 31-9 demolition of the Kansas City Chiefs at Raymond James Stadium.

Brady won his seventh Super Bowl and was named MVP for the fifth time as Tampa Bay won its second Super Bowl.

The Bucs signed Brady to a two-year contract as a free agent before the 2020 season. This has to go down as one of the best signings in the history of any sport.

PETA donor honors 100K pledge for Tyrann Mathieu interception

A donor will follow through on a 100K pledge to PETA for a Tyrann Mathieu Super Bowl interception

The underdog Tampa Bay Buccaneers had their day in Super Bowl LV on Sunday. Dogs will have theirs, too, despite a Tyrann Mathieu interception being nullified by a penalty flag.

An anonymous donor said last week they would donate $100,000 to PETA if the Kansas City Chiefs’ DB made an interception in the Super Bowl. Mathieu made a pick but it was wiped out by a penalty.

Those penalty flags be damned. The donor said Monday they were going to follow through with the contribution $100,000, anyway.

Per the release on Monday:

Angry at what he calls a “100% unfair” penalty that nullified Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu’s brilliant interception during Super Bowl LV, an anonymous PETA donor says that he will still give PETA the $100,000 he had pledged for a Mathieu interception, because “the dogs didn’t deserve that call and neither did Tyrann.”

… Tyrann has now scored a donation that will help us spay and neuter dogs for free, provide ones who would otherwise freeze with sturdy doghouses, and give away straw bedding that offers these animals some insulation against the bitter cold. This winter will be a little less cold for neglected “backyard dogs,” thanks to Tyrann — PETA’s MVP for helping the most vulnerable pups.

The story kicked off when the donor said if Mathieu made an interception during Super Bowl LV, they would $100,000 to help dogs in need.

Mathieu has starred in videos for PETA, showing what impact leaving a dog in a hot car can have on the canine.

Per PETA:

For putting his own body on the line to help animals, we honored him with a PETA Humanitarian Award at our 40th anniversary celebration. His teammate Patrick Mahomes presented the award, calling Tyrann “not only an asset to our team but to animals who need protection.”
