Former Georgia Bulldogs cornerback signs with UFL team

Former Georgia football DB signs with the Memphis Showboats in the UFL

Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive back DJ Daniel has signed with the UFL’s (United Football League) Memphis Showboats. Daniel joins several other former Georgia players in the UFL.

The Showboats are signing Daniel again after they cut him in training camp.

Daniel is 25 years old. He went undrafted in NFL after his college career at Georgia. The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Daniel this offseason following the draft, but cut him. Daniel also signed with the New England Patriots. He previously played in the USFL. In fact, Daniel made the All-USFL team in 2023 after recording 30 tackles and three interceptions.

Daniel played football at Georgia Military College before transferring to the University of Georgia for his final two collegiate seasons.

Daniel played in 21 games in his career at Georgia. The former cornerback totaled 51 tackles and nine pass deflections during his time with the Bulldogs.

Former Georgia DB enters transfer portal for second time

Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive back is expected to transfer away from Louisville after spending one season with the Cardinals

Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Marcus Washington Jr. is back in the transfer portal. Washington Jr. transferred from Georgia last spring to the Louisville Cardinals.

Washington Jr. played in 13 games for Louisville, but did not record any stats. He primarily played on special teams and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining at his next college home.

Washington Jr. is a former four-star recruit. He is the son of former Georgia defender Marcus Washington.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back played in one game during the 2022 season with Georgia, recording one tackle. Washington Jr. still has a ton of potential.

Washington joins several other former Georgia players that have entered the transfer portal for the second time in their career. Former Georgia defensive lineman Bill Norton transferred from Arizona to Texas this spring. Former Georgia receiver Justin Robinson transferred to Mississippi State a couple of seasons ago and is back in the portal.

Georgia football named as ‘team to watch’ for transfer RB Peny Boone

UGA named as a team to watch for four-star transfer running back Peny Boone

The Georgia Bulldogs have been named as a team to watch for transfer running back Peny Boone. Boone originally transferred to Louisville this winter from Toledo. However, after spending the spring with the Cardinals, Boone is back in the transfer portal.

Georgia recently lost running back Andrew Paul to the NCAA transfer portal this spring. The Bulldogs could elect to add a running back to replace Paul.

Peny Boone is also interested in Ole Miss, Miami, Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Kentucky. Boone is ranked as the No. 14 running back in the transfer portal and the No. 179 player overall.

Boone, who began his college football career at Maryland, rushed for 1,400 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in 2023 with Toledo. Boone also added 219 receiving yards on 15 receptions.

Georgia football already added the third-ranked transfer running back in Trevor Etienne. Georgia’s running back room features Roderick Robinson and Branson Robinson, who is recovering from a leg injury.

Four-star Georgia linebacker commit visiting Alabama

Four-star Buford standout, Georgia linebacker commit sets June official visit with Alabama football

Elite linebacker recruit Jadon Perlotte plans to take an official visit to Alabama on June 14. Alabama is looking to pry away Perlotte, who has been committed to the Georgia Bulldogs since Dec. 2022.

In the fall of 2023, the four-star linebacker was projected to flip his commitment to the Florida State Seminoles. However, Perlotte previously told On3, “I dropped Florida State, so I’m not even looking at them anymore.”

Perlotte plays football for Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. Buford is one of the premier high school football programs in the country. Perlotte played alongside Georgia freshman safety KJ Bolden during the 2023 football season at Buford. Perlotte plays both linebacker and safety and the high school level and has excellent versatility.

The four-star, who grew up a Georgia fan, is the No. 92 recruit nationally and the No. 13 recruit in Georgia in the class of 2025. The elite linebacker is the No. 12 player at his position. Georgia currently has eight commitments in the class of 2025 and the nation’s No. 11 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker runs track and has committed to playing in the 2025 All-American Bowl. Perlotte’s brother, Jordan, plays college football for Wofford. Kirby Smart and Georgia signed the top recruiting class in the nation in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Former Georgia wide receiver enters transfer portal again

Former UGA football receiver enters the transfer portal again after spending the past two seasons at Mississippi State

Former Georgia Bulldogs receiver Justin Robinson has reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal again after spending the past two seasons at Mississippi State.

In 2023, Robinson recorded 21 receptions for 257 receiving yards at Mississippi State. These numbers aren’t extremely impressive, but he actually was Mississippi State’s third-leading receiver. The Bulldogs had a dreadful passing offense last season and finished second-to-last in the SEC with an average of 181.8 passing yards per game.

Mississippi State used to throw the ball more than any other team in the country under head coach Mike Leach, but that changed in 2023. The Bulldogs really struggled offensively a year ago. Robinson has one season of eligibility remaining.

One potential destination for Robinson is the Washington Huskies. He could be reunited with former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers. Washington lost all of its leading receivers to the NFL draft.

Robinson, who transferred from Georgia following last season’s national championship, earned more snaps at Mississippi State. Robinson finished the 2022 college football season with a career high in receptions, yardage and touchdowns. In 2022, Robinson recorded 30 receptions, 326 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

During the 2022 postseason, Robinson notably earned the MVP award of the ReliaQuest Bowl after a strong performance.  The 6-foot-4, 220-pound wide receiver is a former four-star recruit out of Eagles Landing Christian in McDonough, Georgia.

UGA football spring game tickets, pregame information

Tickets remain available for Georgia football’s spring game on April 13 at 1:00 p.m. ET

Georgia’s annual G-Day spring football scrimmage will be on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Weather in Athens, Georgia, is projected to be about 70 degrees and sunny for the contest. The spring game will be televised on SEC Network+ for those unable to attend the event in person.

Fans will be able to enter Sanford Stadium at 10:30 a.m. Georgia will play an alumni flag football game at 10:45 a.m. Georgia will hold the Dawg Walk at 11:50 a.m.

Ticket prices for G-Day are $5. Tickets remain available, for sale, for the general public. Students are able to request tickets as well. Stadium concessions will be open.

Georgia football will have a lot of fresh talent for fans to watch this spring. The Bulldogs have 22 early enrollees and six transfers that are learning Georgia’s culture and system this spring. Seven additional players will join the Bulldogs over the summer.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart previously shared what his goal for the Dawgs this spring.

“Goal of spring for me would be to expand our roster of winning football players. What defines above the line and below the line is can you play winning football? We’ve probably got 30 or 40 guys that have proven that. We’ve got another 30 or 40 that have to prove that to get the team we need to have ready to go play the schedule we have,” said Smart.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has looked strong for the Bulldogs this spring. He has a bunch of new weapons that should see a lot of action in Georgia’s spring game. G-Day will also be a big game for many different freshmen to make their debut in front of fans in Sanford Stadium. Georgia signed the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2024 cycle.

Former Georgia Bulldogs OL receives big performance-based bonus

Former Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer received one of the NFL’s biggest performance-based pay bonuses for his 2023 season

Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer has quickly found a role for himself in the NFL. Through two years in the NFL, Salyer has already started 31 games for the Chargers.

In his second season with Los Angeles, Salyer played in 99% of the Chargers’ offensive snaps. Salyer primarily played right guard from the Chargers after playing left tackle a year ago.

Salyer received the NFL’s ninth-highest performance-based bonus. The NFL’s performance-based bonus system is designed to reward players that are paid less than most other NFL players, but still play a ton of snaps. Last season, Salyer received over $840,000 in performance-based bonuses. Salyer had a base salary of $870,000 in 2023 and a $43,982 signing bonus, so his performance-based bonus nearly doubled his pay.

Salyer played college football at the University of Georgia and was selected in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft. The Chargers got an absolute steal in Salyer.

Salyer started at left tackle for the Georgia Bulldogs throughout the 2020 and 2021 college football seasons. The 6-foot-4, 325-pound offensive lineman allowed only two hurries and no sacks during his final season with Georgia.

Salyer won’t be an NFL free agent until 2026, so the Chargers have him on a bargain contract for a couple more seasons.

Former Georgia LB re-enters the transfer portal

Former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker enters the transfer portal again after one season at UCF

Former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Rian Davis has re-entered the NCAA transfer portal after spending the 2023 college football season at UCF.

Davis recorded 14 tackles for UCF in 2023 and likely has two years of eligibility remaining (only appeared in one game in 2021 and played during the 2020 season, which did not count against eligibility). Davis appeared in seven games for UCF during the Knights’ first season in the Big 12.

Rian Davis played in 14 of 15 games as Georgia won back-to-back national championships in 2022. Davis started in two games and contributed 15 total tackles.

Rian Davis, who is from Apopka, Florida, is a former four-star recruit. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker faced stout competition at the inside linebacker position during his time at Georgia.

Georgia does not have as much experienced depth at inside linebacker this year, but the Dawgs do have young talent in sophomore linebackers CJ Allen and Raylen Wilson. Georgia also returns senior Smael Mondon. Georgia inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann has a close relationship with Rian Davis and could look to target him in the portal if Georgia ends up looking for an experienced transfer linebacker this spring. 247Sports reported that Rian Davis entered the transfer portal.

USC quarterback Jayden Maiava explains why he flipped from Georgia

Highly-rated transfer quarterback Jayden Maiava explains why he flipped to USC from Georgia this winter

Highly-touted UNLV transfer quarterback Jayden Maiava originally committed to transferring to Georgia. However, not long after committing to the Bulldogs, Maiava had a change of heart and flipped to the USC Trojans.

After a spring practice, Maiava explained why he committed to USC so soon after being committed to Georgia.

“I wanted to play under Lincoln Riley. The things that he’s done, the accomplishments that he has underneath his belt and being able to go out there and compete against the best…(Coach Riley is) just such a great dude. I mean, sitting in the film room, the knowledge that he has. It’s amazing,” said Maiava.

Maiava’s decommitment left Georgia thin at quarterback behind returning starter Carson Beck. The Bulldogs have Gunner Stockton as Beck’s back-up and just one other scholarship quarterback in four-star freshman Ryan Puglisi.

It is hard to blame Jayden Maiava for transferring to USC because of Lincoln Riley’s excellent track record of developing quarterbacks. Riley weighed in on Maiava’s decision to commit to USC shortly after making a verbal pledge with Georgia.

“I think he just decided this is really where he wanted to be. The recruiting process can be tough on guys. Emotions and all that can really play a factor and I think it probably did for him a little bit. And especially for transfers, where it happens so quickly,” said Riley.

Maiava is expected to be a back-up quarterback at USC, but has the upside to be the Trojans’ quarterback of the future. Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs may have to turn to the transfer portal in order to add another quarterback after spring practice.
