Legal sports betting launches at MGM Grand Detroit

Legal retail sports betting launches in Michigan at MGM Grand Detroit

MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) announced Wednesday the launch of legalized sports betting at the MGM Grand Detroit through its BetMGM Sports Lounge.

In December 2019, Michigan passed legislation around a two-step timeline for legalizing sports betting within the state. Retail sports betting went live Wednesday, March 11, while online and mobile wagering (along with iGaming) are expected to come at a later date, but not before receipt of all of the necessary regulatory approvals.

“Twenty years ago, MGM Resorts bet on the great City of Detroit with an $800 million commitment to create the city’s first and only integrated luxury casino resort built from the ground up,” said David Tsai, President & COO of MGM Grand Detroit said via a release obtained by SportsbookWire. “We’ve been able to help stimulate the local and state economy by creating thousands of jobs, making substantial infrastructure investments, and contributing over $2.8 billion in tax revenue to the City and State since opening. As the market leader in Detroit, we’re proud to be part of this groundbreaking moment for Michigan gaming and to bring a world-class sports betting and entertainment experience to our guests.”

BetMGM Sports Lounge has a variety of features, including:

  • Over-the counter betting
  • Bar top video poker machines
  • Wall-to-wall HDTV coverage of daily games
  • Full bar with signature craft cocktails and local craft beers

Sports fans looking to place a legal sports wager on games can also utilize BetMGM kiosks throughout the MGM Grand Detroit to place their bets.

BetMGM revamps Las Vegas properties, launches mobile sports betting app

On the heels of launching a sports betting app in Indiana, BetMGM sportsbooks are revamping their Las Vegas retail books with kiosks and a new mobile sports betting app.

On the heels of launching a sports betting app in Indiana, BetMGM Sports revamped their offerings in Las Vegas, Nevada today with a number of changes, according to a company release provided to SportsbookWire. Those changes include:

  • Redefined sports betting portfolio
  • Launch of BetMGM mobile betting app
  • Gaming kiosks
  • Rebranded sportsbooks

In partnership with Roar Digital, LLC, BetMGM’s mobile betting app provides all of the betting options and perks of MGM Resorts’ traditional sportsbooks, but with the ability to utilize them from anywhere in the state. In Nevada, which is different than some of the other legalized betting states, a user must activate their app in person. BetMGM has created dedicated windows at MGM Resorts’ Vegas sportsbooks to allow users to activate their account and make a first-cash deposit quickly. Once the account registration and first bet are placed at the sportsbook, app users can do all of their deposits, withdrawals and bets directly inside the app through a debit/credit card via the BetMGM Play+ pre-paid card or, as done traditionally, at a sportsbook counter.

BetMGM’s app, which is available for download on iOS and Android, also allows a large offering of prop bets, live bets, in-game wagering and the ability to see odds change in real-time.

“MGM Resorts has emerged as a leader in sports betting, striking significant partnerships with professional sports leagues, expanding our market reach and harnessing best-in-class mobile technology from Roar Digital, powered by GVC,” said Scott Butera, President of Interactive Gaming for MGM Resorts, in a release provided to SportsbookWire.

“Beyond sports, we continue to offer new and exciting amenities at our properties as we’ve found our sports bettors appreciate world-class hotels, restaurants and entertainment; BetMGM allows us to incorporate them into the ecosystem of everything MGM has to offer.”

Traditional retail sportsbooks at Bellagio, ARIA, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Park MGM, New York-New York, Luxor and Excalibur, along with 100-plus gaming kiosks across the sportsbooks, will all be rebranded as BetMGM sportsbooks in the coming weeks.

As legalized sports betting continues to change on a state-to-state basis around the United States, education about responsible gaming will need to improve and BetMGM is highly focused on that, too. An industry-leading program, GameSense, helps focus on positive, transparent and proactive conversations with players about responsible gambling. It’s developed and licensed to MGM Resorts by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) and, at MGM property’s M life Rewards desk, the program comes alive through trained staff known as GameSense Advisors. Guests are also able to utilize interactive GameSense touchscreens at facilities, along with educational materials, to be proactive around betting responsibly.

BetMGM is now operating live sports betting in Nevada, New Jersey, West Virginia and Indiana. Provided they obtain all applicable gaming approvals, BetMGM will also have retail sportsbook betting in Michigan at MGM Grand Detroit, which will be followed by statewide mobile betting upon Michigan allowing such to occur (currently believed to be coming in 2021).

Indiana sports betting: BetMGM launches sports betting app in Indiana

BetMGM launches sports betting platforms in Indiana, joining growing list of legal sports betting operators within the state.

BetMGM sportsbook, a leading mobile sports betting app, launched throughout the state of Indiana Thursday, according to a release by Roar Digital, LLC, which is the joint venture between MGM Resorts International and GVC Holdings.

Through a market access agreement with Boyd Gaming, BetMGM enters the Indiana market with their sports betting app, which was previously available in New Jersey and West Virginia markets.

BetMGM, per a release provided to SportsbookWire, offers unique product features, including in-app, live-stream sports events.

Sports betting became legal in the state of Indiana last year when 13 locations (off-track facilities and casinos) were given authorization to take sports bets as of Sept. 1, 2019, which is when mobile sports betting in Indiana was also legalized. Indiana saw $170.8 wagered in January across casinos and mobile betting applications, which set a new state record according to data released by the Indiana Gaming Commission.

“Introducing BetMGM in Indiana is a significant development for Roar Digital and MGM Resorts,” said Scott Butera, President of Interactive Gaming for MGM Resorts in a released statement. “Indiana has a rich history in professional and amateur sports and a strong fan base. We are certain that the sports betting opportunities offered by BetMGM, and access to MGM’s world-class entertainment offerings and resorts, will be well-received.”

Indiana sports bettors will be able to place legal sports wagers on professional and collegiate sports through a variety of pre- and in-game wagers as well as player props. The app is available for download on iOS and Android Sports bettors can also access BetMGM‘s platform via desktop.

“We’re excited to launch BetMGM in a state as passionate about sports as Indiana is and look forward to seeing fans in the state take advantage of our unique in-app offers,” said Adam Greenblatt, Chief Executive Officer, Roar Digital in a statement. “Indiana marks an incredibly important expansion for us as we look to solidify our presence in the Midwest and continue to bring BetMGM to new states in the U.S.”
