Florida got back in the win column on Saturday with an impressive win over Georgia at home. The Gators were far from perfect, but the game marked a step in the right direction and, more importantly, allowed UF to avoid suffering a second Quadrant 3 loss on the season.
The victory didn’t do much to build Florida’s NCAA Tournament case, though. It remains ranked No. 30 in the NET, unchanged from where it was heading into Saturday’s game.
The Gators are a combined 5-1 in Quadrant 3 and 4 games, and the fact that they’ve managed to mostly avoid taking bad losses helps to counter the lackluster record, both overall and in conference play.
But UF is just 3-3 in Quadrant 1 opportunities and 3-2 in Quadrant 2 games. As long as Florida is struggling as much as it is against quality teams, it’s going to remain near the periphery of the tournament.
The Gators’ next two games come against Quadrant 1 opponents and it closes the season with a Quadrant 2 game against a Missouri team that is currently ranked. They’ll have plenty of opportunities to solidify their case, but for now, the Georgia win didn’t move the needle much.
