Watch: Malcolm Brown goes 23 yards untouched for easy TD vs. Chargers

Malcolm Brown went untouched on this 23-yard touchdown run, galloping through a gaping hole created by the O-line

Malcolm Brown only had 17 carries on the year coming into Week 17, with his longest tote going for 17 yards. But on Sunday against the Chargers, the man who scored the first touchdown in SoFi Stadium’s history added his first touchdown of the season.

In the fourth quarter, Brown went 23 yards untouched for a touchdown to pull the Rams within four points of the Chargers. The offensive line created a gaping hole in the middle and Brown didn’t miss it, turning on the jets for six points. Cam Akers has been doing the bulk of the work at running back but it was Brown who found the end zone.

Rams elevate Chandler Brewer and Malcolm Brown to active roster ahead of Week 4 matchup vs. 49ers

The Rams elevated Chandler Brewer and Malcolm Brown to the active roster ahead of their matchup against the 49ers in Week 4.

The Los Angeles Rams are dealing with injuries at various positions and they are activating a couple of players to the active roster. With hours to go until the Rams take on the 49ers on Monday Night Football to conclude Week 4, Chandler Brewer and Malcolm Brown were promoted to the active roster.

The Rams likely activated Brewer to the team due to not having Brian Allen or David Edwards available in the interior of their offensive line this week, along with Tremayne Anchrum being out for the season. Brewer hasn’t played in a game since 2019, but he’s been with Los Angeles for multiple years, so he’s accustomed to Sean McVay’s offense.

Meanwhile, it was expected that Brown would join the active roster this week given McVay’s comments following the team’s Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson aren’t dealing with any injuries that we know of, however, the Rams likely want to have an experienced running back behind them.

While Brewer and Brown will join the active roster on Monday night versus the 49ers, it remains to be seen if they’ll see any snaps.

Sean McVay hints at Malcolm Brown suiting up for Rams in Week 4

Sean McVay revealed that it’s likely that Malcolm Brown will suit up for the Rams in Week 4 against the 49ers.

The Los Angeles Rams recently signed Malcolm Brown to their practice squad and it doesn’t appear he’ll have to wait long to join the active roster. With the Rams needing depth at the running back position, Sean McVay hinted at Brown being elevated to the active roster before Monday’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.

Outside of Darrell Henderson and Cam Akers, the Rams don’t have a running back they can lean on. Rookie Kyren Williams was supposed to handle a reserve role for Los Angeles this season, but he was placed on injured reserve following Week 1.

Considering that Henderson and Akers have had injury concerns of their own, the Rams elected to bring in a familiar face in Brown to provide depth in the backfield. The former undrafted running back out of Texas was with the Rams from 2015 to 2020 before signing with the Miami Dolphins in 2021.

The experienced running back wasn’t on a roster this season, however, McVay knows what Brown brings to the table at the running back position. Even though Brown hasn’t had much time to get acclimated back with the organization, fans should expect to see him in uniform versus the 49ers in Week 4.

Rams sign RB Malcolm Brown to practice squad, waive RB Trey Ragas and OLB Keir Thomas

The Rams are reuniting with Malcolm Brown, signing him to their practice squad. They also waived two players on Thursday.

It’s a day of reunions for the Los Angeles Rams. In addition to signing Kendall Blanton off the Chiefs’ practice squad, the Rams are also bringing back another familiar face: Malcolm Brown. That’s the same Malcolm Brown who was with the team from 2015-2020 before signing with the Dolphins as a free agent in 2021.

The Rams announced they’ve signed him to the practice squad, waiving running back Trey Ragas to make room for him. Additionally, they waived Keir Thomas from the 53-man roster, likely opening up a spot for Blanton’s arrival – which is not official yet.

In his last season with the Rams, Brown rushed for a career-high 419 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 4.1 yards per carry in 2020. He also caught 23 passes for 162 yards, both of which were career bests, too.

Last season in Miami, Brown only played seven games and rushed for 125 yards. He signed with the Saints in July but was waived less than a month later.

Malcolm Brown talks Saints culture, recalls career highlight vs. New Orleans

Malcolm Brown shared his excitement to find a scheme and culture fit with the Saints, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

The first day of training camp is always a fun day. A lot of first-day-of-school energy. That was certainly the case for the New Orleans Saints newly signed running back Malcolm Brown. Brown joins the team after spending his early career with the Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins. At a time where there is some uncertainty about the availability of star back Alvin Kamara, Brown looks to make an impact in camp that shows what he can bring once the regular season is under way. The word he continuously used about the opportunity? “Excited.”

“I’m excited to go,” Brown told me when I asked about his first day at Saints camp. “I’m excited to just build some camaraderie with the team, meet everybody and just keep going. … Like I said, I’m excited. I’ll probably say that ten times today.”

The smile on Brown’s face as he discussed the Saints culture and it’s draw further confirmed the veteran running back’s elation to land with the team. Brown grew up in southern Mississippi with a lot of Saints fans in his family. Because of that and his action against the Saints in the past, he was well aware of the team and city’s unique connection and reputation.

“I’ve played a couple times in the Superdome,” Brown explained. “The fans, you know, the culture of the team … You can feel the energy playing these guys back in the day. I definitely knew what it was coming in and I was excited for it.” Back in 2018, one of those visits to the Superdome led to what Brown said was his “number one” play of his career as he jumped over a diving Marcus Williams and tightroped his way to the endzone.

Brown was happy to reminisce on that touchdown run, “Hopefully I can make something shake again, something like that again, in the future.” But it’s not just the memories that brought the ninth-year veteran running back to New Orleans. He also spoke highly of the Saints approach to offense and his position.

“That slash run is what people call it,” Brown explained. “Just downhill, one cut and go. I think that’s just my game. That’s my type of game. So that’s another factor in (signing).” The Saints culture thrives off of players who buy in to the community and the system. While it might be early in camp, all signs indicate that Brown will have no problem doing exactly that.

Former Dolphins RB Malcolm Brown signing with Saints

Another member of the 2021 Dolphins finds a new home.

The Miami Dolphins did a great job keeping a number of their players that were set to hit free agency from their 2021 roster, but there have been a few that have found homes elsewhere.

One example of that is running back Malcolm Brown, who signed with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, the team announced.

Brown was originally an undrafted free agent signing of the St. Louis Rams back in 2015, and he stayed with the Rams for the first six years of his career before joining Miami for the 2021 campaign.

In his sole season with the Dolphins, Brown recorded 33 carries for 125 yards and one touchdown on 3.8 yards per attempt.

Now, with New Orleans, he’ll be fighting for carries with Mark Ingram, Dwayne Washington, Abram Smith, Tony Jones Jr. and Devine Ozigbo behind Alvin Kamara.

Saints announce a flurry of roster moves before training camp, sign RB Malcolm Brown

The Saints announced 6 roster moves, including the signing of free agent running back Malcolm Brown and former Texans starting center Nick Martin:

When it rains, it pours. The New Orleans Saints filed a quick list of roster moves on Tuesday’s update to the daily NFL transactions wire — signing three new players and waiving three others to make room for them. Let’s dig into each transaction and what it means moving forwards:

Dolphins free agent profile: Is Malcolm Brown one-and-done in Miami

There’s a need, but did he do enough to earn a spot in 2022?

The Miami Dolphins have 28 players that are set to become either unrestricted, restricted, or earned rights free agents this March, and while many of them made solid contributions to the team in 2021, a few didn’t make as big of an impact.

That’s the case for running back Malcolm Brown.

Brown joined the Dolphins in 2021 after spending his first six years with the Los Angeles (and St. Louis) Rams. As a member of the rams, he was never a lead back. He totaled just 1,188 yards and 11 touchdowns as well as 327 receiving yards and one touchdown during his time.

Miami brought him last offseason on a one-year, $1.75 million contract that made him the highest-paid back in their backfield. Some believed that Brown would provide some of the power and pass-protection that Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed didn’t bring, and he could carve himself a role.

Unfortunately for the 28-year-old, the combination of poor offensive line play, injuries, and some just bad rushing performances resulted in just 33 carries for 125 yards (3.8 yards per carry) and one touchdown on the year. Brown played in just seven games after suffering a quad injury in the game against the Atlanta Falcons.

With only Gaskin and Gerrid Doaks under contract for 2022, there’s a clear need for running backs on the team’s roster. However, it’s evident that they need more than what Brown can provide.

New head coach Mike McDaniel’s offense fits different styles of running backs. There’s not exactly one mold that they look for, but if Brown is going to contribute like a third running back on the depth chart, Miami would be better off going with a rookie or Doaks in that role.

If they want a veteran, two guys who are also free agents that were Dolphins last season, Duke Johnson and Phillip Lindsay, should be higher on the list of players Miami should want back for the future.

RB Malcolm Brown will not return from IR this season

Miami will ride the last with their stable of backs.

With one week left in the Miami Dolphins’ 2021 campaign, there was still a decision to be made at the running back position.

Seventh-year back Malcolm Brown suffered a quad injury during the first quarter of the team’s Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Since then, he’s been on injured reserve.

Miami brought Brown back to practice on the Wednesday before their Week 15 team. The Dolphins had 21 days to activate the running back or his season would be over. That 21-day period comes to an end on Wednesday, and according to head coach Brian Flores, Brown will not be returning to the active roster.

With only one game left in the season and the team already being eliminated from postseason contention, this isn’t a big deal. In recent weeks, the Dolphins have gotten some strong efforts from Duke Johnson, Phillip Lindsay, and Myles Gaskin as the running back trio, and they are comfortable playing New England with that group.

On the season, Brown finished with 33 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown on the ground, adding three receptions for 10 yards in the receiving game.

Brown only signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins this past offseason, so he’s set to become a free agent again. We may have seen his last snaps in a Dolphins jersey.

Brian Flores says RB Malcolm Brown will practice on Wednesday

The Dolphins are getting much-needed reinforcements.

The Miami Dolphins have been dealing with COVID-19 running through their running back room in the past week.

Myles Gaskin, Phillip Lindsay, and Salvon Ahmed were all added to the reserve/COVID list, leaving the Dolphins without a healthy running back on their active roster before Duke Johnson was elevated from the practice squad.

Now, the team is getting some good news, as Malcolm Brown is set to return to practice on Wednesday, according to head coach Brian Flores.

Brown suffered a quad injury in the first quarter of Miami’s Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons and has been on injured reserve ever since. His return to practice would start his 21-day practice window where the Dolphins would have to either activate him or lose him for the season.

Miami’s running game hasn’t been great this year, in fact, they’ve been the second-worst in the league. However, over their last five games, the Dolphins have shown a commitment to the run game that the coaches don’t want to stop now. If Brown can come back and grab a few carries, that will help.
