Florida State vs Wake Forest Game Preview

Why Wake Forest Will Win

Sam Hartman almost pulled it off.

Clemson is Clemson – it had the defense and it had the guys to pull off the 51-45 win last week over the Demon Deacons – but Hartman balled out with his third straight 300-yard game since returning from the blood clot issue and hit the Tigers for six touchdown passes and a slew of deep plays.

Florida State hasn’t seen anything like Hartman and the Wake Forest passing game.

Jayden Daniels was able to hit the midrange passes in LSU’s loss to the Noles, and he almost pulled off the win with a late rally. Louisville’s Malik Cunningham threw for 243 yards, and even Boston College’s dying offense was able to connect on a slew of short range throws.

Florida State has to get ready to crank up the offense, but …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Florida State Will Win

Can the Wake Forest defense hold up?

The pass rush is good, and the run defense hasn’t been too bad, but DJ Uiagalelei came up with a terrific passing day for Clemson. Now it’s Jordan Travis’s turn.

He might not be the flashiest of quarterbacks in a huge year for the position, but the veteran has been accurate, he’s coming up with the explosive downfield plays, and his team is 4-0 after he bombed away for over 300 yards in the 44-14 win over Boston College.

As good as Travis is, the FSU passing game isn’t going to be able to keep up yard for yard with what Hartman brings, but it’s the rushing attack that should take over.

What’s Going To Happen

The Seminoles lead the ACC in rushing, they’re great at controlling the ball and the tempo, and they’ll have the O on the field for over 35 minutes.

And the weather? After so much worry and concern about Hurricane Ian pummeling Tallahassee, it shifted away. It’s going to be in the mid-80s with minimal wind and little chance of rain.

The conditions will be perfect for a shootout. Florida State will come up with more from the running game to take over late in the thriller.

Clemson vs Wake Forest Game Preview

Why Clemson Will Win

The defense has been suffocating.

Louisiana Tech kept throwing in the 48-20 loss to the Tigers, but that didn’t matter – 14 points came late when the game was well out of reach.

Star DT Bryan Bresee is back on campus after being out last week following the tragic loss of his sister, the run defense is allowing just 2.4 yards per carry, and the takeaways are flowing.

No, the Tigers haven’t faced an offense like Wake Forest will bring, but the pass rush that hasn’t needed to turn it loose is about to step up, the secondary should be able to hold up, and there’s no fear of stopping the run.

The Demon Deacons will give it a shot, but the ground attack won’t go anywhere. Fortunately for them …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Wake Forest Will Win

Sam Hartman stepped back in and rocked without skipping a beat.

He missed the opener against VMI as he worked to get past a blood clotting problem, and then hit Vanderbilt and Liberty for 625 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Demon Deacon offense will push a Clemson defense that hasn’t seen anything like this so far, but it’ll be the other side of the ball that has to step up.

Clemson’s O has put up points, but it’s been a grind to get there. There’s no appreciable downfield passing game, the running game was just okay until last week, and if it’s possible to score 124 points in three games and be underwhelming, this team has done it.

Hartman and the Demon Deacon offense has to crank up the pressure. Clemson hasn’t needed to come up with a drive that matters so far this year, but …

Week 4 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

It’s Clemson vs Wake Forest. Clemson has won 13 straight in the series and 15 of the last 17. It’s going to take something amazing for Wake Forest to pull this off.

The Clemson defense is about to turn it up a few notches. As is it’s fantastic, but it hasn’t done much to get to the quarterback – that’s about to change.

The offense that found a nice balance over the last two games will pound away, it won’t turn the ball over like the Demon Deacons need – they’ve come up with seven takeaways over the last two games – and after a fun and wild first part of the game, things will settle in.

The Clemson defense will settle in.

Wake Forest vs Liberty Game Preview

Why Liberty Will Win

It hasn’t been easy, but Liberty has somewhat quietly started 2-0 with nice wins over Southern Miss and UAB.

There isn’t the same explosion there was with Malik Willis under center, but the pass defense has been great, the nine takeaways have been massive, and the team is finding ways to win.

Wake Forest has been good over the first two games, but it isn’t generating a ton of defensive pressure, the offense hasn’t always been smooth, and it has to deal with a Flame defensive front that’s getting into the backfield.

As long as the takeaways continue, Liberty has a shot.

However …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 3

Why Wake Forest Will Win

Welcome back, Sam.

Wake Forest star QB Sam Hartman only missed one game with a blood clotting issue, and he was more than fine in the win over Vanderbilt hitting 18-of-27 passes for 300 yards and four scores with a whole lot of downfield plays happening.

The Demon Deacons aren’t getting enough respect for a team that played in the ACC Championship last year, but to be fair, rolling up VMI and Vanderbilt isn’t that big a deal.

Even so, the offense is rolling, the defense didn’t allow 300 yards in either of the two games, and everything looks back on track offensively.

If the Wake Forest passing game is humming, Liberty can’t keep up.

Week 3 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

The Wake Forest passing game will be humming, and Liberty won’t be able to keep up.

Kaidon Salter has been fine under center for the Flames, and he’s running well, but he just isn’t accurate enough and the offense hasn’t been good enough to stay on the field. It’s not going to keep Hartman and company on the sidelines long enough.

Wake Forest vs Vanderbilt Game Preview

Why Wake Forest Will Win

What’s the real Vanderbilt?

Is it the team that ripped through a gutted Hawaii squad, or is it the one that struggled to stop Elon in a 42-31 fight last weekend?

It might be a good 2-0 start for the team, but it caught a break with the Hawaii game – really, the program is totally starting over – and it had a hard time dealing with the Elon passing game.

This is an improved team, but there’s still a long, long way to go before it’s going to be consistent.

Wake Forest got its own warm-up in, and it turned out to be desperately needed with the new of star QB Sam Hartman having to take a leave of absence with a medical concern. Mitch Griffis stepped in and way brilliant in the blowout win over VMI, the running game worked, and the team looked and played like it’s getting up to speed without its leader.

If the Wake Forest offense works like it’s supposed to, Vanderbilt shouldn’t be able to keep up. However …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 2

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

Maybe that is the real Vanderbilt.

Maybe it’s the team that ran all over Hawaii and continued to rumble through Elon. Maybe QB Mike Wright – who threw four touchdown passes last week and ran for two more – is just the sort of talent who can take the program up a few notches.

No, the D wasn’t anything special against Elon, but it did a nice job against the run, and that’s what has to come first this week. The Demon Deacons rumbled for over 200 yards against VMI, and while Griffis was great, Vandy will take its chances that the new young passer really can make the O go like normal.

Get the the Commodore offensive line in a lather for the third straight week, get the ground game working on that side, control the clock, and weather the storm of a few big pass plays. This team might be able to do that.

Week 2 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

It’s going to be a fun moment for two of the smartest schools going to make a statement.

Vanderbilt is Vanderbilt, but it’s still a road game against an SEC school for Wake Forest. A good performance in a win might show that it really is good enough to push for the ACC title again in a shaky conference.

Wake Forest is Wake Forest, but it was still good enough to get to the conference championship game last year. A good performance in a win might show that Vanderbilt is on its way to something solid with a 3-0 start.

Wake Forest will get run on, but the passing game will take over when it has to.

Wake Forest vs VMI Game Preview

Why VMI Will Win

How much has the Wake Forest defense improved?

It struggled last year – to be nice – against the teams that could run, and VMI will try to get its ground game going early with leading rusher Korey Bridy back working behind a decent front five.

QB Seth Morgan threw too many picks, but he did a good job of keeping the chains moving. This might not be a high-octane powerhouse of an attack, but the balance will be there, the defense should get a few good plays out of a secondary coming off a solid 2021, and …

Week 1 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Wake Forest Will Win

The VMI pass rush won’t be there, and that’s going to quickly turn into a big, big problem.

The Demon Deacons need this game to break in QB Michael Griffis – with star Sam Hartman out indefinitely with a non-football related medical condition – and he should get plenty of time to work. The O will keep going fast, it’ll keep the Keydets on their heels, and there’s a good chance it puts this away after a few drives if everything works right.

As decent as the VMI offense will be this season, it’s going to dominate the clock. Against Wake Forest, taking advantage of the time of possession battle is a must, but that’s not happening here.

Week 1 Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews, Thursday & Friday

What’s Going To Happen

Hartman is a star for the attack, but the Wake Forest offense has the parts to keep on moving until he gets back.

The Demon Deacons will win on the lines, they’ll be balanced when they need to be, and they won’t take any big chances – they won’t need to.

VMI will come up with a few scoring drives, but not nearly enough of them to keep up with the pace Wake Forest will set right away.

Sun Belt Preseason Predictions For Every Game: Preview 2022

Sun Belt predictions for every team and every game in the 2022 college football season

The Sun Belt just got a whole lot more interesting with the addition of Marshall, Old Dominion, and Southern Miss from Conference USA – and getting them a year before it seemed possible – and also brought in FCS powerhouse James Madison to a be a part of the fun.

The divisions are staying for now, but the great additions will make it far, far tougher for Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, and Louisiana to keep on dominating – even though they might not take that big a step back, if any.

While it might seem a bit cut-and-dry with the way the league is set up, watch out for some potentially big moves from some teams that struggled. The problem will be the schedules for Troy, South Alabama, and Arkansas State. Georgia State and Old Dominion programs that got to bowl games last season will have to fight, too.

The Sun Belt is stronger than ever and the season should be the best yet. The Sun Belt predictions for 2022 are …
