A year after taking Josh Allen, the Jacksonville Jaguars continued their trend of improving the trend of bolstering their pass defense by adding cornerback C.J. Henderson and pass-rusher K’Lavon Chaisson in the opening round in the 2020 NFL Draft. Neither selection came as a surprise as the Jags lost a lot on defense this offseason and prior.

The defense also has a high probability to be without disgruntled defensive end Yannick Ngakoue in 2020, too, so they snagged Chaisson with the No. 20 overall pick. If things continue to go the way that they have between Ngakoue and the Jags it appears they would have no problem with inserting Chaisson into the lineup.

When he spoke with the media, the 2019 National Champion let it be known that he’s at his best when he rushes the passer, but also mentioned his ability to play at multiple positions for the team if needed.

“That’s directly where it speaks,” Chaisson said. “Obviously, I feel like my best spot right now is rushing the quarterback. Without a doubt, let me put my ears back and get to the quarterback. But I feel my versatility is so critical.

“I’m not going to say I’m like [Kansas City Chiefs safety] Tyrann Mathieu, but I play like him. I can play different positions. Players like that are critical in today’s game, but wherever the Jaguars want me to play I’m willing to do without hesitation.”

Per Mike Silver of NFL.com, the Jags had Chaisson down as an option for the No. 9 overall selection. That should be a clear indication that his versatility stood out to them.

Heading forward the possibilities are endless for Chaisson, whether it’s playing out of two-point stance and rushing the passer or dropping back in coverage. Regardless of what’s in store, it looks like Jags fans will have an exciting player to watch develop over the 2020 season and beyond.
