Twitter reactions to Jimmy Garoppolo’s suspension are absolutely ruthless

Twitter ripped Jimmy Garoppolo following news of his suspension on Friday

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was suspended two games for the 2024 NFL season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy. He is also expected to be released by the Raiders organization.

Garoppolo signed with the Raiders last season, reuniting with former Raiders coach Josh McDaniels. He played in six games and started in seven of them. He tallied 1,205 passing yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The Illinois native got his start with the Patriots after being selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft.

This news was one of the first major stories of the NFL offseason. Predictably, Twitter had strong reactions to Garoppolo’s suspension, with many of them being absolutely ruthless.

Here’s why a Jimmy Garoppolo-Patriots reunion reportedly never materialized

The San Francisco 49ers believe they can win with Jimmy Garoppolo.

Friday, NFL insider Albert Breer gave more insight into why a Jimmy Garoppolo-New England Patriots reunion never came to fruition. Greer indicated that the 49ers believe they are competing for a championship, and that they can win with Garoppolo.

Breer specified that he would find it hard to believe that San Francisco would have even considered trading the quarterback. With San Francisco selecting rookie signal-caller Trey Lance third overall, the organization needs some time to develop the rookie.

With Super Bowl aspirations in combination with a rookie quarterback,  Breer indicated that trading Garoppolo did not make sense in the mind of the organization.

“The decision to go with Trey Lance I think basically moved Jimmy Garoppolo further off the market,” Breer added. “I think at that point the 49ers knew, and Kyle knew, we probably have to at least preserve the ability to redshirt our rookie quarterback for a year, because it’s Trey Lance and not Mac Jones. I can’t imagine the 49ers would be going out there and actively trying to make a deal for Jimmy Garoppolo unless the compensation coming back was absolutely overwhelming. That’s what they’ve maintained the whole time.”

“The reason why, again, is because they believe they’re competing for a championship this year.”

As the 49ers look to remain competitive in a deep NFC West, San Francisco has pieces for now as well as the future. as a result, a New England-Garoppolo reunion is not in the cards

Tedy Bruschi proposes a QB he thinks would be perfect for the Patriots

“I think the pressure is higher than ever in New England in terms of who the next quarterback is going to be.”

It’s another offseason and the New England Patriots have no answer at the quarterback position. Bill Belichick will spend the offseason searching for a signal-caller after a rough season with quarterback Cam Newton in 2020.

It isn’t that the Patriots are definitely done with Newton. But the fact that he’s not under contract in 2021 speaks to New England exploring other options. And there’s one option that former Patriots linebacker and current NFL analyst Tedy Bruschi likes the most.

“Any other quarterback, why do you want to follow Tom Brady?” Bruschi asked on WEEI sports radio during an appearance this week. “You’re always going to be compared to the successes and the past, and that is going to make it a tough job. That’s going to make it a job to where guys will come in, ‘I can’t live up to that.’ I think the pressure is higher than ever in New England in terms of who the next quarterback is going to be.

“You better have some guts to come in here,” added Bruschi. “I’ll tell you that right now because from Day 1 it is going to be like, ‘OK, we’re ready for a Super Bowl championship.’ And [that quarterback] will have to deliver because that’s what [fans] are used to here. I think (Jimmy Garoppolo) Garoppolo knows that. I think Garoppolo could even say, ‘You know what, I can do it. I know how it’s done.’ To me, maybe that is the best option because of the amount of pressure the new guy is going to have. It’s going to be a hard, hard task.”

Garoppolo is currently under contract with the San Francisco 49ers, who acquired him in a trade with New England. However, Garoppolo’s deal has an easy out after this season, which makes him a viable trade or cut candidate.

Newton discussed the burdens of following Brady. The issues Newton recognized the most were in dealing with the playbook, which Belichick, Brady and the Patriots offensive coordinator built through the years. It was comprehensive — and built for Brady. But then Newton was dealing with the expectations in New England, which were established during the Brady era when he won six Super Bowls.

“We are depending on a lot of people who are not used to the pressures of being a New England Patriots player,” Newton said. “And honestly, if I am being honest and candid, I am one of those players.”

You know who does? Jimmy Garoppolo, who played for the Patriots for two and a half years and went 2-0 as a starter. The one concern with him is injuries. He suffered an injury during his second Patriots start and couldn’t finish the game. And he has dealt with a handful of problems during his 49ers tenure, too.

Coming off a Super Bowl appearance and cementing his role of starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, Jimmy Garoppolo is truly living his best life. Once the backup to Tom Brady, Garoppolo now has the spotlight to himself  and has made the most of his opportunities.

In addition to on-the-field accomplishments, he has also managed to secure himself a big contract while in San Francisco, signing a five-year, $137.8 million deal in 2018. Speaking on WEEI Monday afternoon, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick indicated that he is pleased in seeing the success Garoppolo has had on the West Coast.

“Jimmy’s a good quarterback,” Belichick said. “Took them to the NFC Championship last year — won the NFC Championship. So he’s certainly been able to have a high level of achievement, accomplishment out there. They signed him to a contract that showed they had confidence in him as their quarterback.

“So I don’t think any of that is all that surprising. I think we all know Jimmy’s a good player.”

Once thought to be Tom Brady’s  successor, Garoppolo has managed to find his niche with the 49ers. Time will tell if he can continue to play at a high level. New England will get a first-hand look at it on Sunday As for now, a change of scenery has served  him well.

Jimmy Garoppolo and Bill Belichick are still texting buddies

“Emojis? Do you think he uses them?”

Bill Belichick stays in touch.

The New England Patriots coach traded away quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, but that didn’t end their relationship. During the 2017 season, Belichick would text Garoppolo regularly after each week. The communication has grown less frequent, but they still chat.

“It’s every now and again,” Garoppolo said to reporters at Super Bowl Opening Night in Miami on Monday. “There’s no real rhyme or reason to it. It is just whenever he feels like it. Whenever he does, it’s always a honor.”

What does Belichick say?

“Just congratulations, things like that. Keep the thing going,” Garoppolo said. “Coach (Belichick and I), we had a great relationship. Great guy. Very honest. Very straight forward. I always appreciated him for that.”

Does he send emojis?

“Emojis? Do you think he uses them?” Garoppolo asked. “He’s a big SnapFace guy, I know.”

Garoppolo snuck the expression, “SnapFace,” into a press conference. Belichick would be so proud — it’s his favorite joke, after all.

What Tom Brady texted Jimmy Garoppolo ahead of Super Bowl LIV

Tom Brady sent Jimmy Garoppolo a brief message.

Tom Brady didn’t write Jimmy Garoppolo an essay over text message. The New England Patriots quarterback briefly reached out to his former backup, Garoppolo, ahead of Super Bowl LIV to issue a few words of encouragement.

“He shot me a text, just ‘Good luck’ and everything like that,” Garoppolo said on NFL Network during Opening Night in Miami. “It’s just: ‘Go handle business.’ It wasn’t too complicated or anything, just, ‘Go win.'”

Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers are set to play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in a contest for the Lombardi Trophy. Garoppolo has never played in a Super Bowl, but he has been on the sideline for a pair of Patriots’ wins. Garoppolo, who played for the Patriots from 2014 to 2017, watched from the sideline while Brady won the games for New England.

This will be Garoppolo’s first chance to start after watching Brady.

Tom Brady on mind of Jimmy Garoppolo heading into Championship Game

Jimmy Garappolo will take the lessons he learned from his former mentor into Sunday’s crucial game against the Green Bay Packers

As Jimmy Garoppolo gets set to take on the Green Bay Packers at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, he will have Tom Brady in mind.

As the San Francisco 49ers took on the Minnesota Vikings last weekend, Garappolo went 11-of-19, throwing for 131 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He will certainly have his hands full on Sunday.

He is taking on a Green Bay defense that allowed 375 passing yards in a 28-23 win over the Seattle Seahawks. The home-field advantage should certainly help the 49ers. And perhaps he’ll tap into what he learned from Tom Brady, As he told the press Wednesday, there are certain things he will key on. Especially given the fact that they once shared a locker, there are bound to be some things Garoppolo has picked up on.

“I haven’t personally talked to him, but just, you know, things that I took away from watching him go through it and everything, just the consistency that he had throughout the entire run,” said Garoppolo. “Whatever it was, the first playoff game, the Super Bowl, he was very consistent between all of it and I think that just goes into your preparation throughout the week. If you are prepared going into the game then you’re going to play like that.”

Having been in the New England organization for a few years, Garoppolo was given a front-row seat to how things are done in the postseason. If anything, that will help him prepare for this huge moment. He will be able to play the conference championship game in the comforts of home. That certainly makes life a bit easier.

With how consistent Brady has been in the postseason over the last decade or so, emulating what he has done is certainly a smart game plan. With the weapons the San Francisco 49ers have, it will certainly be possible for Garoppolo to have a Brady-like performance. Maybe just maybe, the lessons Jimmy Garoppolo  learned from Brady will come in handy on Sunday.
