Eagles select CB Quinyon Mitchell with 22nd overall pick in 2024 NFL draft

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell with the No. 22 overall pick in the NFL draft

The Eagles got their man, and Howie Roseman didn’t have to trade up for the best cornerback on the board, selecting Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell at No. 22 overall.

Mitchell is an outstanding athlete who makes plays with his burst and ball skills on the backend.

As an All-MAC cornerback and Bednarik Award nominee, Mitchell has had six interceptions and 37 pass breakups over the past two years.

Over the past two years, Mitchell has earned elite coverage grades with a dominating 35 forced incompletions, six interceptions, and eight dropped interceptions.

Eagles penalty for allegedly tampering with Saquon Barkley won’t come during 2024 NFL draft

The league’s review into tampering allegations against the Falcons and Eagles is ongoing and will not conclude this week during the draft

The Eagles and Falcons will both likely receive penalties for tampering during the NFL free agency period, but according to Adam Schefter, that resolution won’t happen before or during this weekend’s draft.

Cousins has admitted that he communicated with Atlanta’s athletic trainer and head of public relations before the NFL’s new league year.

Cousins left the Minnesota Vikings to sign a four-year, $180 deal with the Atlanta Falcons, and Barkley left the New York Giants to join Philadelphia on a three-year, $37.8 million contract.

During an interview prior to free agency, Barkley’s college head coach at Penn State, James Franklin, referenced the star running back and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman speaking on the phone during the legal tampering period.

Schefter previously reported that discipline is coming soon, with the punishment likely harsher for the Falcons, given Cousins’ on-the-record statement.

The Dolphins lost their 2023 first-round draft choice and a 2024 third-rounder for tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton thrice from 2019 through 2022. Miami owner Stephen Ross was fined $1.5 million, and team vice chair and limited partner Bruce Beal received a $500,000 fine.

Kansas City lost their 2016 third-rounder and a 2017 sixth-round choice for tampering with former Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin in 2015. The Chiefs were hit with a $250,000 fine, and new head coach Andy Reid ($75,000) as well as then-general manager John Dorsey ($25,000) were also fined.

2024 NFL Draft: Eagles looking to trade up for one of the top cornerbacks?

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman is looking to trade up for a top CB like Terrion Arnold or Quinyon Mitchell

The NFL draft is just four days away. While some general managers will operate passively, Eagles executive Howie Roseman will be among the most aggressive at adding elite talent.

The final week of draft preparation will present plenty of news and rumors, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Roseman and Philadelphia could be looking for an aggressive move up the board for one of the top cornerbacks.

If Roseman wants a cornerback at No. 22, as many people around the league believe he could, he might have to move up again. Per sources, he already has been calling around, gauging what a trade up might look like to be prepared for what has become a near-annual tradition. It’s also worth noting Roseman, who has been Philly’s GM since 2010, has never drafted a corner, tight end, running back or safety in Round 1.

Roseman has traded up in four of the past five years to select offensive tackle Andre Dillard (2019), wide receiver Devonta Smith (2021), defensive tackle Jordan Davis (2022), and star defensive tackle Jalen Carter, Davis’ teammate at Georgia (2023).

The Eagles hadn’t drafted a cornerback in the first round since 2002 when they selected Lito Sheppard, but Darius Slay and James Bradberry are 30 or over. The young core of Eli Ricks, Kelee Ringo, Josh Jobe, and Zech McPhearson suffered a baptism by fire in 2023, leaving some doubt about a potential star out of the group.

Former Eagles’ QB Carson Wentz agrees to a 1-year deal with the Chiefs

Former Eagles QB Carson Wentz signing with Kansas City Chiefs to be the primary backup to Patrick Mahomes

After waiting until ten weeks into the 2023 regular season, quarterback Carson Wentz returned to the NFL and joined the Los Angeles Rams.

Wentz didn’t have to wait long this off-season, and according to Adam Schefter, he is signing a one-year deal with the defending Super Bowl champion, Kansas City Chiefs.

Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2016 NFL draft, spent five controversial seasons in Philadelphia, even earning a contract extension before eventually being traded to Indianapolis.

After a late-season collapse with the Colts in 2021, Wentz was traded to the Commanders.

He went 2-5 in seven games as Washington’s starter in the 2022 season, throwing for 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine picks.

Wentz spent one season in Washington before being released ahead of a $26 million cap hit for 2023.

Wentz, 31, started the Rams’ regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers, completing 17 of 24 passes for 163 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

In eight NFL seasons, Wentz has completed 62.7% of his passes for 22,292 yards, 153 touchdowns and 67 interceptions.

Eagles trade All-Pro pass rusher Haason Reddick to the Jets

Haason Reddick was looking for a contract extension and the Philadelphia Eagles have traded the Pro Bowl pass rusher to the New York Jets

We wrote about Haason Reddick and the Eagles likely discussing a potential extension or the All-Pro pass rusher taking his talents elsewhere.

Adam Schefter reports that Philadelphia is trading Reddick to the New York Jets.

Reddick finished the year with 11.0 sacks and 38 tackles in 17 regular-season games, and he recorded double-digit sacks for the fourth consecutive season, leading his team in that category and tying for 15th in the NFL.

Had Nolan Smith shown that he was ready to be an elite pass rusher, the idea would have been to cut Reddick, saving the Eagles $11 million after the dead money allotment.

Outside of the sacks, though, Reddick’s numbers were poor by his standards.

His 38 tackles were the second-lowest mark of his career, and he didn’t force or recover a fumble after forcing five and recovering three last season. His snap share (74 percent) remained identical, indicating the drop-off wasn’t due to a lack of opportunities but mismanagement from coaches.

He’ll now swap teams with Bryce Huff.

Eagles salary cap wizard Jake Rosenberg departing team to advance his career

Jake Rosenberg, Philadelphia’s vice president of football administration is leaving the team in hopes of furthering his career in the NFL

The Eagles have been among the big winners during the NFL’s free-agent frenzy, and a massive component of the organization’s cap wizardry is departing for greener pastures.

Jake Rosenberg, Philadelphia’s vice president of football administration and a salary cap wizard, is leaving the franchise in hopes of furthering his career in the NFL, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

“Over a pretty extended period of time I have just thought to myself that if it doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards for me to advance in this league, and have a chance to keep pushing and growing, that at the end of the day, what is involved to do this in terms of a life perspective, it’s not going to be worth it,” Rosenberg told The Inquirer.

Rosenberg told Jeff McLane that the decision was his alone. He hopes to stay in the NFL and work for a team where he can pursue his goal of becoming a GM.

Rosenberg and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman have been friends since elementary school, and he’s had a role with the Eagles since 2012, joining the team after working as a trader in bonds and commodities.

Eagles’ projected depth chart following the first wave of free agency

We’re looking at the Philadelphia Eagles projected depth chart on offense and defense after the first wave of NFL free agency

The Eagles have undergone significant changes on both sides of the football field, involving player personnel and a retooled coaching staff.

Two pillars of the Philadelphia culture have called it a career, as Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox decided to retire.

The free agent period and NFL draft are Howie Roseman’s seasons, and the Eagles GM got off to a roaring start after inking running back Saquon Barkley to a three-year deal, signing improving pass rusher Bryce Huff and then bringing versatile defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson back into the fold.

Roseman then added talent to the backup quarterback position, acquiring Kenny Pickett from the Steelers for a 2024 third-round pick and two 2025 seventh-round picks.

With the second wave of free agency set to pick up steam, we’re looking at an early depth chart prediction for Philadelphia.
