Colorado State at San Diego State odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Colorado State Rams and San Diego State Aztecs sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks.

The Colorado State Rams (19-10, 10-6 Mountain West) visit the San Diego State Aztecs (26-1, 15-1, 1st in MWC) in an 11 p.m. ET affair at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl Tuesday. We analyze the Colorado State-San Diego State odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Colorado State at San Diego State: Three things you need to know

1. The fifth-ranked Aztecs, in the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll, are coming off a Saturday home loss — their first defeat of the season — to UNLV. The Rebels beat the Aztecs, 66-63, fueling the victory with a 12-point lead built in the game’s first half. SDSU trailed by seven or more points for 27 minutes of game action.

2. Colorado State is 10-3 since Jan. 4. The Rams have gotten better on offense over the 13-game stretch, averaging 79.5 points per contest after averaging 72.7 PPG in November and December. It has become clear the CSU offense is much more potent at home that on the road. In 2- and 3-point shooting, the Rams rank as a top-40 team in the nation at home. They are outside the top-140 in both stats outside Fort Collins.

3. San Diego State defeated Colorado State 79-57 Dec. 4. The contest was a back-and-forth exchange for 25 minutes before the Aztecs pulled away. SDSU logged a 56.6% effective field-goal mark (a measure accounting for the risk-reward on 3-pointers being different from 2-pointers) and a plus-12 in rebounding margin. G Malachi Flynn hit three triples en route to a 23-6-7 game (points-rebounds-assists). Flynn has scored 46 points over SDSU’s last two games.

Prediction

San Diego State 75, Colorado State 62

Moneyline (ML)

The San Diego State (-1250) line is right on. There is no use trying to wedge a tiny profit out of the play. AVOID.

New to sports betting? A $12.50 wager on SDSU is needed to return a profit of $1.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The Rams tend to play at a fast pace, while the Aztecs operate at a slower-than-average pace. Colorado State is 2-4 over its last half-dozen games against slow-tempo opponents.

The lean in principle is toward the host Aztecs here, but the line — San Diego State -13.5 (-110) — doesn’t offer enough cushion for value, PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under is 3-0-1 in the Aztecs’ last four games following a straight-up loss and 4-0 in the Rams’ last four road games against winning teams.

With the Aztecs in revenge mode after Saturday’s loss against a team they held to 57 on its home floor, and with that team’s road shooting woes and all-around issues at the free-throw line (67.1%), the UNDER 140 (-115) has a nice margin and is worth a play.
