Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

UAB vs Louisiana Tech What’s Going To Happen

UAB has had a rough season with a disastrous second half run going 1-5, but all can be fine with one more win and bowl eligibility.

It’ll get it against a Louisiana Tech team that’s not able to come up with enough consistency on defense and is struggling to get the O going.

The Bulldogs do okay when they take the ball away a bunch of times – they’re 3-1 when coming up with three turnovers or more – but UAB has only given it up multiple times once in the last seven games.

Here’s the concern, though – UAB isn’t at home.

It’s 5-1 at home and 0-5 on the road – and it’s not like it played a slew of killers other than LSU. Louisiana Tech is 0-7 on the road but 3-1 at home. The passing game will click to make this fun, but DeWayne McBride and the ground game will control this throughout.

Louisiana Tech vs UTSA Game Preview

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

The offense will be more than happy to make this a shootout with the Roadrunners.

The offense might not be consistent, but it’s good for 300 yards through the air against anyone who wants to party.

The Sonny Cumbie offense is cranking up well over 400 yards on a regular basis, the defense is forcing takeaways by the bunches with three or more in three of the last five games, and …

10 Best Picks Against The Spread

Why UTSA Will Win

UTSA does shootouts better.

The offense will give it away a few times, but not enough to matter. The balance will be the difference to overcome the mistakes.

Louisiana Tech can run a little bit, but it can’t get to 200 yards like UTSA can.

The Bulldog run defense is a disaster allowing 279 yards or more four times – losing all four games – and UTSA is more than happy to get everything working on the ground to go along with all Frank Harris and the passing attack can do.

Schedules, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

You know those tough defensive struggles with both teams holding up in a tense-filled battle that comes down to one or two big offensive plays? Yeah, that’s not going to be this.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show as these two rumble up and down the field. UTSA will come up with a few stops, but Louisiana Tech will struggle to do anything to slow down the machine on the other side.

Louisiana Tech vs FIU Game Preview

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

The passing game is making things interesting.

The Bulldogs might not be winning a bunch lately, but they were able to push Rice in a shootout loss thanks to five touchdown passes, and they lost to North Texas after cranking out well over 400 yards through the air.

FIU might be having a little more success overall, but it’s struggling in the secondary allowing 580 passing yards combined over the last two weeks to UTSA and Charlotte.

FIU might be 3-4, but it’s still one of the worst teams in the country on third downs – on both sides of the ball – there are too many misfires when the offense has scoring chances, and …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 8

Why FIU Will Win

Can we give Mike MacIntyre a little bit of Coach of the Year recognition?

FIU is a total gut job of a team coming into the season, but it has three wins, it’s more competitive, and it starts with an offense that’s able to find enough of a passing attack to matter.

That, and the defense is taking the ball away with seven turnovers forced over the last two weeks. However, in this the job will for FIU to …

– Game Previews, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Run, run, run.

That hasn’t been easy for the Panthers who have yet to hit 165 yards on the ground, but they get to go against the nation’s worst run defense. Everyone runs, keeps running, and doesn’t stop running. The yards on the ground will be there, but …

Competition. FIU beat Bryant, New Mexico State, and a Charlotte defense that gives up 500 yards bruising its teeth in the morning.

Louisiana Tech might be having a rougher run, but it also dealt with Clemson, Missouri, a good South Alabama team on the road and a dangerous North Texas squad.

FIU will run well, but the Bulldogs will be better though the air.

BYU vs East Carolina Game Preview

Why East Carolina Will Win

So where has it all gone wrong for BYU?

The excitement was high going into the season that this might be a special run, but it all fell apart over the last three weeks with the offense sputtering against Notre Dame and Liberty, and the defense a stunning no show against those two and Arkansas, too.

The East Carolina offense works.

Even when it only scored nine points in the loss to Tulane, the passing game wasn’t all that bad. There’s a good enough ground game to keep feeding the ball against a Cougar defensive front that’s getting ripped apart – it’s allowing over 200 yards in each of the last four games.

If that works, the passing attach should fire away at will – the BYU pass defense is allowing everyone to hit their midrange throws.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 8

Why BYU Will Win

This is just the second true road game of the year for East Carolina – it lost the first one to Tulane, and what was supposed to be the second one turned into a neutral site date with USF thanks to the Hurricane Ian.

Yeah, BYU is having a whole lot of problems, but it’s not turning it over, the passing game has the talent to be efficient, and East Carolina gives up a ton of yards through the air.

And home field should matter.

It didn’t against Arkansas a few weeks ago, but that’s Arkansas. Going to Provo is tough, and again, not having other road games should be a problem when dealing with this environment.

BYU could use the energy boost.

College Game Previews, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

East Carolina should pose a whole slew of problems for the BYU defense.

The Cougars don’t have a pass rush, they’re totally miserable at coming up with third down stops, and East Carolina is the best team in the American Athletic Conference at connecting on its third down chances.

But really, can the Pirates handle the always nasty road test BYU is for almost everyone?

They can, but the secondary won’t hold up.

It seems like this keeps being said every week, but BYU is way overdue to get the passing game rolling again.

The yards were there against Arkansas, but everything fell flat against Liberty and there wasn’t anything happening against Notre Dame.

East Carolina’s pass defense should be the cure for that in an entertaining game.

Rice vs Louisiana Tech Game Preview

Why Rice Will Win

Just when it seemed like it was time to get fired up about the Owls, the couldn’t get by Houston or Florida Atlantic on the road. Even so, they’re still playing well defensively and should keep this close.

They have to win on the lines and they have to start running right away. Louisiana Tech doesn’t do anything to get behind the line, and it’s getting slaughtered against the run.

North Texas cranked up 475 yards in last week’s win. Rice won’t do that, but it’ll keep hammering away.

However …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 7

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

Rice is having a massive problem with turnovers. It gave it away three times against Florida Atlantic, five times in games against Louisiana and Houston, and times in the opener against against USC.

Louisiana Tech might be awful defensively, but it might come up with just enough big plays to avoid the break after bending.

It might be just this simple. Louisiana Tech’s offense can score and Rice’s can’t, at least when it comes to explosion.

Rice hasn’t faced too many offenses that can throw well, and …

– Game Previews, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

The Bulldogs will bomb away to overcome a 200-yard rushing day from the Owls.

Rice will do what it can to control the game not the ground, but it’s going to have a problem keeping up.

It might be just this simple, though. Louisiana Tech is 2-0 at home and 0-4 on the road. Rice is 3-0 at home and 0-3 on the road.

Louisiana Tech vs North Texas Game Preview

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

The Bulldogs desperately needed a win to get the season going, and it came through with a 41-31 shootout against a decent UTEP defense.

The offense was fine, but the four takeaways played the biggest role. North Texas is having a turnover problem with 12 on the year and seven over the last three games.

The Mean Green offense is struggling on third downs, it’s forcing too many throws leading to picks, and the run defense can be plowed on. However …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why North Texas Will Win

Louisiana Tech doesn’t run well enough to matter.

It had one big explosion in the win over Stephen F Austin, but that’s been it. It’ll try running on the soft Mean Green defensive front, but it needs to throw to win.

The passing yards will be there, but getting into a shootout with North Texas is a problem. The Mean Green ran on Florida Atlantic for 300 yards, threw for close to 700 yards in the previous two games, and they’ll find a way to get everything going.

As long as the running game works – and it should be able to on the Bulldog front – they’ll control this.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Both offenses will have some fun.

Louisiana Tech will wing it around for close to 300 yards, but North Texas will be a bit more balanced. When it runs well, it does better – it doesn’t want to make this about who can be more effective through the air.

Both teams will turn the ball over a few times, but at home the North Texas offense will be more effective and consistent.

UTEP vs Louisiana Tech Game Preview

Why UTEP Will Win

The defense is getting the job done.

The Miners turned things around fast winning four of their last five with the running game getting rolling in the wins, the passing game suddenly becoming accurate, and the defense holding up with a brilliant day against Boise State, a great day against the run against Charlotte, and with eight takeaways in the three wins.

Louisiana Tech doesn’t do the ground game – outside of ripping up Stephen F. Austin – and it’s having a nightmare of a time with turnovers.

The Bulldogs have given it up 12 times in the three wins, they’re not stopping the run, and the passing attack that’s supposed to rock isn’t completing enough passes. But …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 5

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

Louisiana Tech is finally back home.

Missouri, Clemson, and South Alabama – don’t sneer, the Jaguars are strong. Those are the road dates, and now the Bulldogs finally get another chance to work in comfortable surroundings.

The passing game isn’t bad, but it has to start hitting passes on a consistent basis. There can’t be the forced throws that plagued the team on the road, UTEP only has three picks in six games, and the Miner offense has its turnover problems, too.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

The Miner defense is terrific, but Louisiana Tech gets a team its own size at home – it’s going to play like it.

It’ll give up enough turnovers to make this rough, but the UTEP offense won’t do enough to take advantage of the mistakes. There won’t be anything pretty about this game, but the Bulldogs will take the W no matter what.

Louisiana Tech vs South Alabama Game Preview

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

The Bulldogs battled well against Clemson in a 48-20 loss, the passing attack was fine against Missouri, and the ground game rolled in the win over Stephen F. Austin. This is the first game against someone who’s truly their own size.

Even with the 1-2 start, the offense has been scoring, the passing attack under Sonny Cumbie is doing Sonny Cumbie passing attack things, and now it gets to go against a South Alabama defense that doesn’t generate enough of a pass rush and doesn’t get behind the line.

Give the Bulldog quarterbacks time and they’ll roll. But …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why South Alabama Will Win

Louisiana Tech turns it over way too much, giving the ball aways eight times with seven picks.

No, the Jaguars don’t generate a pass rush, but quarterbacks are only hitting 55% of their passes so far and they’re not consistent enough.

For all of the good things the Louisiana Tech passing game has done, it’s only connecting on 55% of its throws with seven touchdowns to go along with the seven picks.

The Jaguars have a nice mix of offensive things happening. The ground game is enough for the Bulldogs to worry about, QB Carter Bradley and the passing game have been great over the first few games, and …

10 Best Predictions Against the Spread

What’s Going To Happen

South Alabama doesn’t have the turnover issues Louisiana Tech does. The Jaguar defense hasn’t done much to take it away, and it needs to be more disruptive, but it’ll control the game.

Clemson vs Louisiana Tech Game Preview

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

Sonny Cumbie’s team has been solid so far offensively.

The Bulldogs might have lost at Missouri, but the passing game came up with 336 yards and three scores. In the win over Stephen F. Austin, the ground attack hit 300 yards.

The defense might have had issues against Mizzou, but it changed up fast with a good day and four takeaways in last week’s win.

The D has to keep forcing mistakes – six takeaways so far – Clemson isn’t controlling the clock, and the downfield passing game still isn’t there. But …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 3

Why Clemson Will Win

The Louisiana Tech run defense isn’t working.

Missouri did whatever it wanted to on the ground, and Stephen F. Austin averaged close to four yards per carry. There might be plays in the backfield, but the sacks aren’t there to bother the Tiger quarterbacks.

Forget about any Bulldog running yards. It might have rolled last week, but it only came up with eight net yards against Missouri – that’s more like what the O is going to be against the better teams.

After a rough day against Georgia Tech – even in a 41-10 win – Clemson wasn’t amazing against Furman, but the ground attack was great, DJ Uiagalelei hit 78% of his throws and was better down the field, and the team looked the part.

The O will be fine, the D will be great, and it’s going to be tough for Louisiana Tech’s lines to hold up.

Week 3 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Clemson will be playing with a heavy heart with star DT Bryan Bresee going through the pain of losing his sister to cancer this week. Not that a tragedy like that should have any bearing on a silly game, but the entire tone of the day will be more respectful than raucous.

In the game itself, the Clemson defensive front will keep Louisiana Tech from doing much of anything right, Uiagalelei will have another strong day, and the team will keep on winning – even if it’s not always perfect.

Louisiana Tech vs Stephen F. Austin Game Preview

Why Stephen F. Austin Will Win

It’s been a bit of a rough start for the Lumberjacks with a blowout loss to Jacksonville State to start the season and with a struggle to get by Alcorn State.

They’re better than this.

They’ve got a good defense with a great pass rush that should start to show up more effectively this week – at least that’s the hope – and on the other side they need to keep doing a decent job of controlling the clock.

CFN Expert Picks, Week 2

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

Yeah, Louisiana Tech couldn’t slow down Missouri in the 52-24 loss, but the offense showed glimpses of what’s coming in the Sonny Cumbie era.

The quarterbacks combined to throw for 336 yards and three scores, the big plays and explosion were there, and this is all going to work with a little bit of time and seasoning. That’s what this game is for.

Stephen F. Austin should have a decent defense, but it didn’t do anything to stop either team from running in the first two games. That’s not Louisiana Tech, but it needs to at least give it a shot.

Week 2 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Can the Stephen F. Austin team that pushed Texas Tech really, really hard last year in a 28-22 loss show up here?

Not if it played like it did in the first two games.

The running production will be there for the taking, but the Bulldogs will end up throwing and throwing some more as the Cumbie attack starts to roll. The Lumberjacks will put up a few points, but the home side will pull away late in the third quarter.
