USA TODAY High School Sports unveils its final high school basketball rankings of the 2021-22 season.

The 2021-22 high school basketball season culminated with Montverde Academy defeating Link Academy to defend its GEICO Nationals crown over the weekend.

This year’s GEICO Nationals featured arguably the biggest upset in the tournament’s history, as Prolific Prep took down top-seeded Sunrise Christian Academy in the quarterfinals despite not having its two McDonald’s All-Americans healthy. The stunner robbed Sunrise Christian of the chance to bring home a national championship in a season in which it seemed like the odds on favorite to do so.

USA TODAY High School Sports unveils its latest high school basketball rankings ahead of the GEICO Nationals.

The 2021-22 high school basketball season is nearing its end, with the GEICO Nationals set to begin on Thursday. The top programs in the nation will duke it out for the coveted crown in front of a national audience, and who comes out on top will go a long way in determining how the final USA TODAY Super 25 rankings shake out.

Can Montverde Academy defend its title? Kevin Boyle’s program will face stiff competition from the usual suspects, such as Sunrise Christian Academy. Upstart Link Academy will be looking to cap an incredible season by winning a championship, and Steve Smith will have his eyes on going out on top in his final season at Oak Hill Academy.

USA TODAY High School Sports unveils its latest boys high school basketball rankings.

All eyes were on the New Jersey high school basketball scene over the weekend, as Roselle Catholic and Camden met for the second time this season in the Tournament of Champions final. Camden got the best of Roselle Catholic earlier this season, but the Lions pulled out a dramatic win in the rematch, propelling them up in the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 rankings.

Centerville (Ohio) dropped out of the rankings having its 45-game winning streak snapped by Pickerington Central in the Division I state championship game.

USA TODAY High School Sports unveils its latest high school basketball rankings.

Another week, another group of high school basketball teams ranked in the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 taking home hardware.

Centennial, Duncanville, Glenbard West and North Little Rock all won state titles during the week or weekend, reaffirming that they are among the elite programs in the nation this season. All four teams strung together impressive runs to win a championship and will never be forgotten in their respective programs.

Camden also won a group state championship in New Jersey, but its season is not over. The Panthers will play for Garden State supremacy in the Tournament of Champions. The TOC could pit Camden against Roselle Catholic, which won a non-public state championship over the weekend.

Centerville won a regional title and will meet St. Ignatius at the University of Dayton in the OHSAA Division I Final Four on Saturday.

No. 17 Centennial won its 27th straight game and captured a CIF Southern Section crown over the weekend, while No. 22 St. Paul VI etched out a championship on Monday night. No. 19 Bishop Gorman wasn’t as lucky, as it suffered its first and only loss of the season in the Nevada Class 5A state title game.

No. 1 Sunrise Christian Academy secures top seed in GEICO nationals with win over No. 3 Link Academy

Sunrise Christian Academy locked up the top seed in the GEICO nationals on Friday night, defeating Link Academy by a final score of 74-65.

No. 1 Sunrise Christian Academy locked up the top seed in the GEICO nationals on Friday night, defeating No. 3 Link Academy by a final score of 74-65 at the Heartland Hoops Classic.

The loss was Link Academy’s first of the season after it entered the game 26-0.

Duke commit Dillon Mitchell led Sunrise Christian Academy with a game-high 23 points, while Kansas signee Gradey Dick scored 16 points and junior Scotty Middleton chipped in 13 points.

Sunrise Christian Academy jumped out to a 21-13 first quarter lead and looked poised to put Link Academy away early after going up by 12 early in the second quarter. Link Academy responded and ultimately cut Sunrise Christian Academy’s lead to 35-30 at halftime.

Link Academy trimmed Sunrise Christian Academy’s lead to 48-44 at the end of the third quarter. Sunrise Christian Academy made the plays to put the game away down the stretch, as four-star junior Layden Blocker came up clutch and Dick hit a three to make it an 11-point game with three minutes left.

Next up for Sunrise Christian Academy is a trip to the Dr. Pepper Classic next weekend. Link Academy will remain at the Heartland Hoops Classic for a Saturday night matchup with Wasatch Academy.
