Florida vs Oral Roberts Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Oral Roberts Will Win

So how did the Golden Eagles do it?

The defense came up with a ton of big stops and takeaways, and the offensive side only turned it over six times.

That D came up big against the Ohio State outside shooters – allowing just 22% from three – and the best free throw shooting team in college basketball came up with five more points on the line.

They got rolled on the boards, but they didn’t screw up, didn’t flinch in overtime, and it did all of the little things right. Ohio State gacked in the big moments, and Oral Roberts played like the confident 2-seed instead of the 15.

Florida turns it over a ton, it doesn’t move the ball around all that well, and …

2021 NCAA Tournament Schedule, Predictions

Why Florida Will Win

The Gators are fantastic from three.

They struggled early against Virginia Tech, but pulled out the 75-70 win by doing an okay job from three – hitting 39% – and overcoming the 18 turnovers by rebounding everything.

Ohio State might have lost despite outrebounding the Golden Eagles by 17, but Florida should be able to take advantage of the defensive stops. They didn’t allow Virginia Tech to do anything on the glass, winning the rebounding battle by 14.

The Gators might have a weird way of going dead cold for long stretches, and they’ll have to crank up the O a bit to keep up at times once Oral Roberts gets moving, but they should be solid inside and they’ll get their chances from three.

What’s Going To Happen

Oral Roberts is dangerous.

If Florida goes cold for a while there’s going to be a big, big problem. The Golden Eagles have the ability to get on the move when the Gators start turning it over, the threes will be coming from everywhere, and …

The rebounds will matter.

Florida will come up with at least ten more, it’ll hit their free throws – something Ohio State failed to do – and it will fight through a tough, tense game by coming up with the big stops in the final minutes.

It’ll take a few free throws to finally breathe easier, but Florida will keep on moving.

It’s argued that this is the best Sunday of the season. Conference Championship Sunday has two Super Bowl-level matchups, it’s all about the anticipation of what’s next, and this time around, we get two special games with four amazing quarterbacks.

What are the five best-looking bets on the board? It’s all about finding the potential value, so when it comes to these – as opposed to our Picks Against The Spread pieces which just looks at the games themselves – it’s all about confirming or denying something you already believe, or maybe sparking an idea for something that just might work.

Again, value, value, value. It might be a long shot, but let’s start with …

5. Tampa Bay at Green Bay

LOWEST SCORING TEAM: Packers +400, Chiefs +325, Chiefs +325, Bills +200
PICK: Packers +400
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

As a warning, this pick goes against a whole lot of personal beliefs.

I believe Green Bay will win. I also believe that – and it’ll be a theme later in this – that the key to making these special types of investments is to take the most likely outcome that gives you value.

The most likely of the two outcomes in the two games is for the Bills to lose to the Chiefs. Tampa Bay vs. Green Bay is a wee bit more of a toss-up – even though the lines are close to the same for both home teams – assuming Patrick Mahomes really is okay.

So the smart call here for the lowest scoring team of the four is Bills +200. There’s good value even if it’s the worst among the four teams.

Yes, Green Bay has been an offensive powerhouse and yes, it just hung up 32 on – statistically – the best defense in the NFL in the win over the Rams. However, maybe there’s a shot that Tampa Bay just has this Packer thing figured out.

It seems like it was a million years ago, but in Week 6 the Buccaneers held Green Bay to its lowest scoring game of the season in the 38-10 win. The Packers couldn’t keep the Tampa Bay D line from hitting Aaron Rodgers, with the high-powered O only coming up with 201 yards.

Tampa Bay is No. 1 in the NFL against the run, eighth in scoring defense, and it’s coming off a brilliant performance against the Saints in the 30-20 win.

Remember, this bet isn’t necessarily about one side shutting down another. It’s about winning first, and then hoping the other game is bit more of a shootout.

You can’t go wrong with believing that any of the four teams make sense for this, but the world is offering you a shot at +400 ….

New Orleans Saints (11-4) vs Carolina Panthers (5-10) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Carolina Panthers Will Win

It’s been a rough year for the Panthers, but they can screw up the Saints in a big way – and it might not be that tough.

New Orleans doesn’t have any running backs.

Literally.

Alvin Kamara is on the COVID-19 list, as is Latavius Murray and the other top backups. Taysom Hill is still around, but it’ll be passing game or bust for a Saint offense that might not be able to get the job done with just Drew Brees going with his short to midrange passes.

Carolina might have a whole lot of problems, but it’s not getting touched too battle through the air and the team is doing a slew of the little things right to pull this off. However …

Why New Orleans Saints Will Win

The Panthers give up way too many deep plays.

It’ll be the Saint defense, though, that should take over against a pedestrian Panther attack that’s stalled. It failed to get to 300 yards of total offense against Washington last week, it’s not going to run the ball all that well against the Saint defensive front, and yeah, Brees can still throw.

He might not be quite right yet, but he the Saint passing game went for 319 yards against the Vikings and the coaching staff will be creative enough to get the O moving.

CFN Experts Picks: Week 17 NFL

What’s Going To Happen

Carolina’s big issue is against the run. It got hit hard by the Saints the first time around in a tough 27-24 loss, and now that’s not going to be a concern.

There will be a steady diet of Taysom Hill, and Brees won’t be bad, but it’ll still be a fight.

The Saints can take the 1 seed – which would be a MASSIVE deal considering the running back issues – with a win, a Green Bay loss to Chicago, and with a Seattle win over San Francisco.

That won’t happen, but they’ll lock in the 2 seed with a win thanks to the defense and a huge day from Brees.

Buffalo Bills (5-2) vs New England Patriots (2-4) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Buffalo Will Win

New England’s offense has gone bye-bye.

It’s not just that the team has lost three straight and four in the last five, it’s that the passing game is non-existent, the rushing attack hasn’t made up for it, and Cam Newton has been absolutely awful.

Buffalo doesn’t have the running game to grind out the clock, but it’s able to control the tempo and control games with third down conversion after third down conversion. Make the Patriots press and they can’t do it.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why New England Will Win

Buffalo hasn’t been all that hot on doing the offense thing either.

The Bills haven’t been quite right since the schedule got funky, the running backs aren’t going anywhere, and the team failed to hit 100 rushing yards in four of the seven games.

New England might have a whole slew of issues, but it really is able to run well enough to at least count on grinding it a bit, and Buffalo’s run defense has had a few issues over the last few games.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

QB Cam Newton, New England
Is he really going to get benched? Outside of the monster passing game against Seattle back in Week 2, he has not broken 200 yards passing. If he’s not running he isn’t producing. This is the week that could make-or-break his fantasy viability.

What’s Going To Happen

Things aren’t going well when you only beat the Jets 18-10, but at least the Bills won.

Things aren’t going well when you get rocked 33-6 at home by San Francisco, but that New England performance seems like an outlier.

Who wants to turn the ball over the least? Buffalo’s D has taken it away twice in four games, New England has turned it over 11 times in the last three games.

Buffalo will get the takeaways and capitalize.

UTEP (2-1) vs ULM (0-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why UTEP Will Win

The Miners aren’t screwing things up too much. They only have three turnovers in the first three games, and the 15 penalties have been manageable in the close wins over Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian.

The offense hasn’t been explosive, but its been opportunistic. The ULM attack hasn’t shown up over the first two games, struggling to find any semblance of a running game averaging just 2.3 yards per carry. UTEP’s defensive front got barreled over by Texas, but it’s only allowed three touchdowns on the ground so far.

Week 4 Expert Picks: College Football

Why ULM Will Win

Can UTEP handle a decent passing game?

Texas and Sam Ehlinger took target practice in the 59-3 win, and even in the two victories the Miners had problems coming up with stops on the short-to-midrange passes.

ULM won’t get the same production at quarterback it enjoyed over the last several years from Caleb Evans, but Colby Suits threw for 377 yards against Texas State and is hitting 68% of his throws. If he gets hot early and the Warhawks come up with a few early scores, UTEP won’t be able to keep up.

Week 3 Expert Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

ULM will finally get a break.

UTEP’s offensive front won’t generate enough of a push for the ground game to matter, and Suits and the Warhawk passing game will do enough in the first half to be comfortable in the second.

UTEP (0-0) vs. SFA (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why SFA Will Win

It’s not like UTEP is poised and ready to become 2019 LSU.

One of the worst teams in college football over the last few seasons should be a bit stronger, but the Miner offense that struggled to do much of anything consistently right isn’t going to be explosive enough to run away with this game and hide.

The Lumberjack secondary has a slew of good hitters – starting with veteran S Trenton Gordon – and end Marcus Mosley is a good enough pass rusher to be a problem.

On the other side, the Miner defense that was the worst in the nation at coming up with tackles for loss isn’t going to do enough in the backfield to bother the SFA passing game. But …

CFN Preview 2020: Every Team Preview, Rankings, Predictions

Why UTEP Will Win

Stephen F. Austin isn’t going to do enough to get behind the line, either. The lines aren’t going to be good enough to hold up, but it’s the lack of a pass rush that’s going to be the biggest help for a Miner offense that needs all the time it can get.

UTEP isn’t going to get too crazy here. It’s going to start running early on, rely on what should be an improved offensive front, and it’s not going to take too many chances. Turnovers shouldn’t be too much of a problem – if any – as the team should be around a +2, and that should be enough …

What’s Going To Happen

UTEP can’t take anyone for granted, but losing to Stephen F. Austin would be  devastating for a program that has just two wins over the last three seasons.

The Miners will do something they haven’t been able to do a whole lot of – if at all – over the last several seasons, and that’s dominate on the lines. They’ll take control late with two good drives, but they’ll have to hang on in the final moments.

If Alabama wins out …
The known unknown is …
What’s a big win? Top 25 wins
What it all really means

5. Rapid-Fire First Reaction To Latest College Football Playoff Rankings

Nothing much actually changed, and that in and of itself is important. The College Football Playoff committee basically punted on a slew of big decisions and calls for now, but that matters.

Oklahoma didn’t get a big bump. Minnesota rocketed up to 8 last week after handing Penn State its only loss so far this year. Oklahoma came up with a special comeback and performance to get by Baylor, and it only moved up one spot. That means …

There appears to be a hard ceiling on how high the Sooners can get. Beating CFP No. 21 Oklahoma State would be nice, and getting by No. 14 Baylor would be solid again if that happens in the Big 12 Championship, but there’s not much room to move up the rankings, because …

Even at 12-1 with a Big 12 Championship – this applies to Baylor, too – there’s way too much traffic. It would take a slew of upsets along the way – like Auburn beating Alabama, a two-loss Pac-12 champion, and some other twists and turns – to get in.

[lawrence-related id=501162]

There’s an outside shot that Notre Dame can get within shouting distance of the New Year’s Six. At 16, the Irish have to count on No. 15 Auburn to lose to Alabama; hope for No. 14 Baylor to drop another game; expect No. 13 Michigan to lose to Ohio State; expect No. 10 Minnesota or No. 12 Wisconsin to lose when the they play each other – and the winner to lose the Big Ten Championship; get a loss against Ohio State out of No. 8 Penn State; and take advantage of Utah and/or Oregon losing again. The Irish  might be able to move up well into the top eight and have an honest shot at one of the big bowls.

Clemson is the only ACC team in the top 25. There are three American Athletic Conference teams ranked – it’s a rough run for the ACC. Virginia Tech should be in the top 25 somewhere, and it likely will be in the near future, but that’s it for now. There’s no one on Clemson’s schedule currently in the College Football Playoff rankings.
