Big injury news for Eagles ahead of Thursday’s showdown vs. Commanders

The Eagles get some positive injury news ahead of Thursday night.

The Philadelphia Eagles received some positive injury news ahead of Thursday night’s showdown against the Washington Commanders. The Eagles announced they had activated left tackle Jordan Mailata from the reserve/injured list.

Mailata missed the last four games with a hamstring injury and was placed on short-term injured reserve. Fred Johnson filled in for Mailata during his absence, and the Eagles won every game.

Mailata was complimentary of his replacement this week.

Mailata’s return would mean Philadelphia would have all 11 offensive starters back for the game that determines first place in the NFC East.

Mailata is one of the NFC’s better left tackles, which means Philadelphia’s potent running game will be at full strength upon his return.

Lane Johnson discusses role the offensive line played in Eagles’ shift to a run-first approach

Philadelphia offensive tackle Lane Johnson discusses the role the offensive line played in Eagles shift to a run first approach

The Philadelphia Eagles have been 3-0 since the bye week ended, and while the defense is starting to find their groove, Kellen Moore’s versatile offense has found its identity.

While meeting with the media on Friday, Johnson said there were discussions during the bye week about the offense embodying the “same formula” of 2021: using the run game and play-action.

Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore attributed the gains to “just finding our rhythm,” while Lane Johnson and the Eagles offensive line played a significant role in the identity shift.

“It was an offensive-led movement. We knew we had to make some adjustments,” Johnson said. “Some of the leaders on the O-line had our fair share of talk in helping it. We want our offense to be the best version of itself, win some games, and score points in the fucking first quarter. That would be nice.”

Since the bye week, the Eagles are First in the NFL in fewest giveaways (0), tied for first in the NFL in rushing touchdowns (6), first in the NFL in rushing first downs (34), second in the NFL in rushing offense (182 yards per game), second in the NFL in average yards per pass attempt (9.4 yards)second in yards per reception (14.6 yards), third in passer rating (125.3), and fifth in completion percentage (70 percent).

Eagles rule out two key offensive starters for game at the Giants

Eagles rule out TE Dallas Goedert and OT Jordan Mailata for game at the Giants

The Eagles finished their final practice of the week, and the team has ruled out Jordan Mailata and Dallas Goedert, as both players are dealing with hanstring injuries.

Mailata and Goedert exited Philadelphia’s Week 6 win over the Browns, with the tight end playing just three snaps before leaving the game.

Veteran offensive tackle will likely start in place of Mailata, while Grant Calcaterra will start in place of Goedert.

Jalen Carter (shoulder) will start after practicing on Friday, while Darius Slay is questionable.

Eagles-Giants injury report: Darius Slay was a limited participant; Milton Williams DNP

Dallas Goedert and Jordan Mailata did not practice, while Darius Slay was limited in the Wednesday practice ahead of Eagles game vs. Gaints

The Eagles released their initial injury report for Sunday’s game against the Giants, and Milton Williams was among three starters who did not practice. Dallas Goedert (hamstring) and Jordan Mailata (hamstring) both sat out practice and could miss multiple weeks.

Star cornerback Darius Slay was a limited participant, along with Jalyx Hunt and Oren Burks.

In what could be a good sign for Philadelphia, Sydney Brown, Ainias Smith, and Albert Okweugbnam logged full practices.

For the Giants, Malik Nabers practiced, while star left tackle Andrew Thomas was ruled out for the season after having Lisfranc surgery.

Gimme Him: One player Giants would steal from Eagles

With Andrew Thomas likely to miss the remainder of the season, the New York Giants would steal this tackle from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The New York Giants (2-4) will host the Philadelphia Eagles (3-2) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon in a Week 7 battle.

That, of course, provides those of us here at Giants Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal from the Eagles’ roster in search of depth and/or talent upgrades for Big Blue.

What’s interesting about this week’s installment is that the theft of choice would have been different yesterday than it will be today.

A quick look at Philly’s roster reveals a plethora of potential upgrades. There’s quarterback Jalen Hurts, tight end Dallas Goedert, cornerbacks
Darius Slay, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, and several other options.

But after news broke that left tackle Andrew Thomas (foot) could miss the remainder of the season, a new dire need bubbled to the surface for New York.

In Thomas’ absence, the Giants will likely move Jermaine Eluemunor to left tackle and insert Evan Neal at right tackle. It will weaken two positions and disrupt the chemistry of what was the team’s best offensive line in over a decade.

The ripple effect will damage an already struggling passing game and stunt the ground game.

In this fantasy scenario, we fix those issues by stealing offensive tackle Jordan Mailata, who has an 88.4 overall grade from Pro Football Focus this season, which is good for fourth-best in the NFL.

Mailata, who could miss this Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury, would eventually step in for Thomas and prevent any sort of prolonged O-line shuffling. He’s equally as valuable as a pass protector as he is a run blocker, and is well on his way to a career-best season.

When necessity meets value, these hypothetical exercises are much easier. It’s just a shame was have to think that way at all entering Week 7 of the regular season.

What are your thoughts, Giants fans? Would you pick Jordan Mailata or would you steal an entirely different player from the Philadelphia Eagles?

Details on how much time Eagles’ Jordan Mailata will miss with a hamstring injury

Philadelphia Eagles star left tackle Jordan Mailata will miss a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury suffered in the win over the Browns

The Eagles appeared to have dodged a bullet on Sunday, as star left tackle Jordan Mailata will only miss a few weeks with a hamstring injury.

Head coach Nick Sirianni just provided the update on Mailata, who was forced to exit midway through the third quarter.  Mailata exited Lincoln Financial Field on crutches and with his legs wrapped.

Eagles All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Brown suffered a similar injury in Week 1 against the Packers and missed three games.

Backup right tackle Fred Johnson, who replaced the injured Lane Johnson in the lineup, could be inserted for Mailata. Philadelphia could also move Mekhi Becton to left tackle and insert Tyler Steen at right guard.

Mailata has allowed eight pressures on 162 pass plays this season, and his 89.8 PFF pass-blocking grade leads all offensive tackles.
