Chiefs to re-sign former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire

The #Chiefs are set to re-sign former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

On the same day the Kansas City Chiefs were revealed to be hosting former Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins for a visit, a report comes that they are retaining their own running back from that draft class. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Clyde Edwards-Helaire has agreed to a one-year contract to remain in Kansas City.

Edwards-Helaire was a reliable option for the Chiefs last year after injuries to Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon held them out of the lineup for multiple games. In 2023 Edwards-Helaire started three of the 15 games he played, shifting between being a third-down back and starter while tallying 223 yards rushing and 188 yards receiving. He had one touchdown as a runner and another as a receiver.

The versatile running back rebounded tremendously after losing his starting job in 2022, becoming one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets.

After the Chiefs declined his fifth-year option last offseason, many critics assumed his days would be numbered in Kansas City. The value he showed last season made him an essential piece for the team moving forward as they seek a threepeat in 2024.

Watch: NFL draft prospect Isaiah Washington impresses at the Rutgers Pro Day

Isiah Washington had a very strong pro day at Rutgers.

Isaiah Washington had an impressive pro day at Rutgers on Thursday, impressing in front of NFL scouts.

There were 40 representatives from 30 NFL teams on hand to see Washington and several other Rutgers athletes perform at the pro day. But the buzz from the event was Washington’s impressive display which included a one-handed catch.

At 6-foot-2 and 206 pounds, Washington had a very solid 38-inch vertical. He ran a 4.53 time in the 40.

But it was the on-the-field work that showed Washington’s upside.

The video, posted by NFL agent Neil Schwartz, shows Washington making an impressive one-handed catch. Schwartz is one of the NFL’s most powerful agents and he represents former Rutgers running back [autotag]Isiah Pacheco[/autotag] among his clients., Pacheco has been a star on two Super Bowl teams with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Last year for Rutgers, Washington had 25 catches for 321 yards and a touchdown.

At No. 12 Penn State in the penultimate game of the regular season, he had five catches for 55 yards.

Kyle Monangai answers the big question of this offseason: Would he win a dance-off with Isiah Pacheco?

Kyle Monangai of Rutgers football talks dancing.

PARSIPPANY, N.J — What is it about running backs and dancing? The touchdown dance moves of running back Isiah Pacheco, well-known to Rutgers fans, have taken over the NFL over the past two years.

And now it is Kyle Monangai gaining notoriety for his post-game dance celebrations.

Rutgers running backs just seem to love busting a move. And Monangai, the leading rusher in the Big Ten last year, certainly made waves with his dancing.

Last month, after a long interview where he was asked numerous questions about his season and the success of Rutgers football, Monangai was asked about his dancing.

Specifically, the question was: Who would win a dance battle between [autotag]Kyle Monangai [/autotag]and [autotag]Isiah Pacheco[/autotag]?

“I honestly have not been dancing recently as much but you know, Pop dance is what it feels like every day,” Monangai told Rutgers Wire. “So he probably has me right now. But if I started dancing again, I don’t know I might have him.”

Well, that is nice and all that, but who would win right here, right now?

“It’s 50-50, you might have to see who woke up better that day,” Monangai said.

All kidding aside, Rutgers fans love to see Monangai cutting up the rug as it usually means a touchdown or a Scarlet Knights win. He spoke in mid-February at an NIL event, the Morris County Card Show, where he signed autographs for fans.

As for his ability to get jiggy wit it, the dance moves come naturally for Monangai, but they always come with emotion.

He remembers growing up and dancing, something that he says is very much engrained in who he is.

“I’ve been dancing since I was young. I think it is a Jersey thing,” Monangai said.

“I think me and Pop grew up dancing, it is something we love doing. It is something that I carry into adulthood and now. It is something that is in him, something that is in me. Something that we love to do.”

Pacheco had plenty to dance about this past season with the Kansas City Chiefs. The former All-Big Ten selection at Rutgers now has two Super Bowl rings in as many years in the NFL.

He scored a touchdown in each Chiefs’ NFL playoff game leading up to the Super Bowl. He had 935 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season.

In the 2022 NFL draft, Pacheco was a seventh-round pick out of Rutgers. He won the starting running back job with the Chiefs midway through the regular season of his rookie year.

He scored a second-quarter touchdown in the Super Bowl to cap off his rookie year with the Chiefs.

Chiefs fans wish star RB Isiah Pacheco a happy 25th birthday

#Chiefs fans wished RB Isiah Pacheco a happy 25th birthday on Saturday.

The Kansas City Chiefs leaned on running back Isiah Pacheco during their run to Super Bowl LVIII. His tenacity with the ball in his hands and ability to gain yards on tough runs has endeared him to fans in Western Missouri and helped him make a name for himself in the NFL.

Pacheco turned 25 on Saturday, just weeks after the Chiefs’ latest Super Bowl victory. His outstanding performance in the playoffs cemented Pacheco’s status as one of the league’s best rushers.

With plenty of time left in his career, it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that the Rutgers product could earn a place in Kansas City’s franchise record books over the next few seasons. The consistency he has brought to the Chiefs’ running game has been a boon for Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, who have been able to rely on Pacheco to pick up gritty yards on the ground to keep Kansas City’s offense balanced.

Users on Twitter helped Pacheco celebrate on Saturday by wishing him a happy birthday.

Pacheco finished the game with 59 rushing yards on 18 carries. In addition, he had six receptions for 33 yards.

He did not score a touchdown in the game, ending his own impressive streak of getting into the endzone. Pacheco came into the game with three straight touchdowns in the NFL playoffs, part of a longer streak of seven games where he had either a rushing or receiving touchdown.

The most important plays of Super Bowl LVIII

At the first half of Super Bowl LVIII, here are the most important plays that have done the most to define the game.

Every football game comes down to a series of moments that flip things in one direction or another. That’s the most true in the Super Bowl, where everything is magnified beyond all reason.

Through the first half of Super Bowl LVIII between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, here are the most important plays that have made the biggest difference in this particular game, which has the 49ers leading the Chiefs, 10-3.

Twitter reacts to 49ers red zone takeaway

Twitter reacts to #49ers red zone takeaway:

The Chiefs were rolling when Patrick Mahomes connected with Mecole Hardman for 51 yards to put Kansas City deep in the red zone. Isiah Pacheco fumbled on first down when Deommodore Lenoir ripped it out, and Javon Hargrave dove on it for the turnover.

Here’s the reaction from Twitter:

A Super Bowl of a study: Good news for Rutgers football as New Jersey is among the best states at producing NFL players

New Jersey is among the best states in terms of producing NFL talent.

There is no better timing than on Super Bowl Sunday to remember that New Jersey produces elite football players. In fact, New Jersey is among the nation’s best at sending players to the NFL, a point certainly backed up by this year’s Super Bowl.

There are three players from the Rutgers football program in this Super Bowl (Kansas City Chiefs: [autotag]Isiah Pacheco[/autotag]; San Francisco 49ers Logan Ryan and Sebastian Joseph-Day). And while only Pacheco and Ryan are from New Jersey, the point is still underscored that New Jersey football is among the best in the nation at producing athletes who can play on Sunday.

And if Rutgers could keep the top in-state talent home, it would be a perennial top-25 program with College Football Playoff ambitions. That’s a big if, to say the least, but still noteworthy.

In the fourth season of their rebuild under head coach Greg Schiano, Rutgers showed significant progress. They finished the season 7-6 (3-6 Big Ten) while playing the nation’s second-toughest schedule.

They won the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl 31-24 over Miami.

[lawrence-related id=35211,35176]

But Rutgers could take another step forward if they start retaining more of New Jersey’s best talent.

Per capita, New Jersey produces 1.07 football players that are sent to the NFL. That is No. 12 in the nation and the fourth-best production of any state with a Big Ten program (Maryland, Ohio and Iowa led the way, respectively).

[lawrence-related id=35131,35107]

It is the best number in the Northeast, a not insignificant stat.

Keeping New Jersey’s best in-state while supplementing with strong regional recruiting from New York and Pennsylvania (Joseph-Day is from Pennsylvania) would certainly be a big step for a developmental program like Rutgers.

Last week, Rutgers received a commitment from Talibi Kaba, the No. 12 recruit in New Jersey and a three-star linebacker prospect. It was an important recruit for Rutgers to land in trying to keep future NFL talent in their pipeline.

Five things the San Francisco 49ers must do to win Super Bowl LVIII

If the San Francisco 49ers are to win Super Bowl LVIII, they might want to pay attention to these five advanced scouting points.

Every Super Bowl comes down to a few big plays, and a few key matchups. You never know what it’s going to be, but when the game is over, and it’s time for coaches and players to review what happened and why, everyone will go back to their advanced scouting reports — how they aligned their guys and how those guys played from a schematic perspective — and try to discern what went right and what went wrong.

Not that we’re professional advanced scouts at Touchdown Wire, but here are five things the San Francisco 49ers should probably pay close attention to when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs today in Super Bowl LVIII.
