Andrew Whitworth loves Bengals’ Orlando Brown Jr. and Trent Brown combo

Count Andrew Whitworth as a fan of Bengals OTs Orlando Brown Jr. and Trent Brown.

The Cincinnati Bengals appear to have what is now the league’s biggest offensive tackle duo thanks to the combination of Orlando Brown Jr. and Trent Brown.

And one guy who knows a thing or two about big offensive tackles — Andrew Whitworth — likes what he sees.

Speaking this week, Whitworth reminsinced about his days when he paired with right tackle Willie Anderson for the Bengals.

“I love it. Got to be the biggest they’ve been since me and Willie were playing together my rookie year,” Whitworth said, according to Geoff Hobson of Begnals.com. “Two monsters out there. You won’t be able to see Joe (Burrow) back there.”

The obvious hurdle to this new offensive tackle duo reaching similar heights is likely Trent Brown’s availability (which would explain the contract details for what a prove-it deal is).

But getting the approval of someone like Whitworth? That means something for a line tasked with protecting a returning-from-injury Joe Burrow.

Orlando Brown Jr. reveals his favorite Bengals free agency signing

Orlando Brown Jr. goes with a reliable name as his favorite Bengals signing.

The favorite free agency signing of Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. might not shock fans.

It’s Vonn Bell.

While Brown says he hasn’t played alongside Bell just yet, he’s heard plenty about him from Bengals teammates and understands his fit on the team.

“My favorite pickup is Vonn Bell and I haven’t even been around him,” Brown said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “When you bring in a guy like Vonn Bell, it makes things easier for a young guy like (safety) Jordan Battle as he’s learning to be a pro.” …

Given Bell’s reputation before leaving in free agency last year, this is probably a popular sentiment in the locker room.

What Brown describes is one of the biggest positives of Bell’s return to help a struggling secondary, too.

Funnily enough, perhaps Brown’s favorite signing would’ve been Sheldon Rankins, like many fans — but the fact he’ll have to battle the new defensive tackle all summer in some capacity played a role in Bell getting the nod, too.

Trent Brown helps create massive tackle duo in front of Joe Burrow

Trent Brown and Orlando Brown Jr. might be the biggest OT combo in the NFL.

The word massive gets thrown around a lot when it comes to the sport of pro football.

But it isn’t any sort of exaggeration when it comes to the Cincinnati Bengals.

In the wake of the Bengals signing Trent Brown in free agency to play right tackle, alongside left tackle Orlando Brown Jr., he forms one of the biggest — literally — tackle tandems in the NFL.

How big? Orlando Brown checks in at 6’8″ and 345 pounds. Trent Brown is even bigger at 6’8″ and 370 pounds.

Give or take a few, too, given how reported weights can vary over the course of one’s career or even time of year.

It’s all in an effort to get even bigger and more athletic in front of Joe Burrow, of course. Given the sheer numbers, call it mission accomplished:

Fun context on why Orlando Brown Jr. picked Bengals over Jets, Steelers

A few more details about Orlando Brown Jr. picking the Bengals over other teams in free agency last year.

With free agency looming, could the Cincinnati Bengals once again be an attractive destination for some of the biggest names in football?

They certainly were last year when Orlando Brown Jr.’s reps reached out to the Bengals, not the other way around, resulting in a massive deal.

One of those advisors to Brown, Jammal Brown, recently spoke with Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com and revealed that the team’s new left tackle was also in talks with other AFC rivals.

“The one thing about the Jets was they were talking about acquiring Aaron Rodgers and that would have been a great opportunity for Orlando to block for a guy like that,” Jammal Brown said. “As we were talking about those teams, Orlando talked about what it was like to play the Bengals. How they always seemed fresh. He said he would play them in December and they were like it was in week two. ‘They do it the right way.’

The praise didn’t stop there, as Jammal Brown added this: “And he respects the hell out of Joe.”

We already knew — via OBJ himself — that he turned down better offers in free agency because he wanted to join the Bengals and play left tackle.

But to hear some of the additional context from those around Brown is fun for fans. And it’s also a reminder that some of the big-name free agents this year might feel the same way — Joe Burrow and Co. are that big of a draw right now.

Orlando Brown comments on scouting combine as Bengals watch OL prospects

A funny, notable comment from Bengals OT Orlando Brown.

The Cincinnati Bengals figure to be heavily looking at offensive linemen at the scouting combine and in the 2024 NFL draft in general.

So it’s only fitting, then, that current Bengals left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. commented on the process as the scouting combine continued this weekend.

Brown took to Twitter with a funny comment about the process: “Food for thought, the mental is just as important as the physical when scouting OL. I’m also only tweeting this because I’m slow as (expletive).”

Nothing too wild, but on a day Bengals draft targets like Amarius Mims were putting on shows, it was interesting to see Brown’s note.

Those Bengals figure to be on the hunt for a right tackle if they lose Jonah Williams to free agency and could otherwise take a starter for any spot on the line that isn’t Brown’s left tackle spot or right guard.

Orlando Brown Jr. picks Joe Burrow over Mahomes, Jackson

OBJ says it’s Burrow > Jackson and Mahomes when it matters most.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. has now blocked for Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow.

But he says the choice among the three is obvious.

“I’m going to go with my current QB,” Brown told TMZ during Super Bowl week. “I’m taking my man Joe Scheisty. I feel like Joe Scheisty is going to get it done.”

The question specifically asked which quarterback he’d trust to lead his team on a game-winning drive.

Realistically, one couldn’t go wrong when picking from the three, but it’s not a shocker to hear that Brown would rock with his current quarterback when tossed a softball like this.

Still, it’s surely fun for fans to hear and Burrow has been plenty clutch over the years with games on the line, too.

Orlando Brown Jr. has been helping Oklahoma OT prospect

Could the Bengals target a prospect Orlando Brown Jr. continues to help?

Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. has already been a great addition on the field, but he also tries to do what he can off the field as well helping other players.

He has been in contact with Tyler Guyton, a right tackle from his alma mater Oklahoma for a while now, trying to help him improve his game as the NFL Draft comes up.

“He’s been a great mentor. He’s been like a big brother,” Guyton said Jan. 30. “He’s telling me to take this time very personal because it’s going to separate me going into the draft. He’s very respectful to me even though he’s already in the league, but he talks to me like a brother.”

The 6-7, 328-pound Sooner will be drafted in April, and with the possibility of Jonah Williams leaving in free agency, the Bengals could be in need of someone on the right side of the line, and Guyton could fit that bill.

Brown has been in contact with Guyton for a while now, and whether the right tackle ends up with the Bengals in the draft or not, Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin said he’s been happy with the way Brown has contributed on and off the field.

“Orlando, his intangibles are off the charts,” Tobin said. “His tangibles are off the chart. He’s big. He’s hard to get around. He’s everything that we saw that we wanted and we wanted a guy with substance to him on and off the field and we got that. I’m pleased for Orlando and as he enters year two in our scheme with our players, he’ll get even better.”

Jonah Williams headed to free agency, not sure what future holds

Jonah Williams chats about his trip to free agency.

Last offseason when the Cincinnati Bengals signed Orlando Brown Jr., left tackle Jonah Williams was moved to right tackle while trade rumors swirled.

Before the season when he was told he would have to change positions, he asked for a trade.

Throughout the 2023-24 season, Williams played every single snap at right tackle and did so well. Now at the end of the season, he will be a free agent.

Williams was head coach Zac Taylor’s first draft pick in 2019, and he said he appreciates that he’s one of the people Taylor wanted to start building a team around a year before they took Joe Burrow in the 2020 draft.

He didn’t say whether he wants to be back with the Bengals yet since he was asked right after the win over the Browns and he hadn’t had time to think about it, but he did say he gave it his all over the past five seasons.

“They gave me the chance to do this and I gave them everything I had,” Williams said. “All I could do is be the best right tackle I could be. That’s what I was doing at left. I’ve proven I can play both. What I end up doing in the future is kind of unknown right now.”

Williams has played left tackle for most of his career, but since Brown is under contract for three more years, if he re-signs with Cincinnati, he will likely have to be on the right side of the line moving forward.

There’s also the fact that left tackles normally make more money than right tackles since almost all quarterbacks are right-handed, and they protect the blind side. That will certainly be a consideration for Williams as he heads into free agency.

He has made himself a sought-after target in free agency, so there will be other teams going after him. But right now, all Williams is concerned about is being able to spend time with his daughter during the offseason, and he is thankful for his time in Cincinnati.

“I gave my all,” Williams said. “I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m proud of what we built here and appreciative of the opportunity.”

Orlando Brown Jr. missed son’s birth for game vs. Steelers

Orlando Brown Jr. shares a stunner of a story about his weekend in Pittsburgh.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. revealed this week that he missed the birth of his son while suiting up against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week.

Brown’s son, Sonny Brown, arrived two weeks early, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. The franchise left tackle got a call the morning of the game while already in Pittsburgh about the developments, only to get a FaceTime call right after the game to watch the delivery.

“That’s one of those things, at the end of day, I’m thankful she understands and my family understands,” Brown said, per Hobson. “For me, football is kind of everything right now. You don’t really get this opportunity back. You don’t get the opportunity to see a birth, either. For me, it was important to be there with the guys in Pittsburgh and to be out there with them.”

It’s an amazing story for Brown, who hasn’t shied away in the past from expressing how importantly intertwined family and football have been throughout his life.

Orlando Brown Jr. explains his hilarious viral TD celebration

Orlando Brown Jr. saw everyone picking against his Bengals.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. went viral on Monday night for a one-liner he issued to the ESPN cameras during a touchdown celebration.

It turns out the “jack***” comment yelled into the camera was directed at those who picked the Jacksonville Jaguars to beat his Bengals.

“I was getting ready pregame,” Brown said after the game, according to CLNS Media’s Mike Petraglia. “I seen all the picks pregame, and everyone had Jacksonville out there to win. I don’t know. It just seemed right in the moment.”

ESPN’s panel before kickoff all picked against the Bengals. But Brown and his teammate surely saw how pretty much everyone else was picking against them, including one analyst saying the game would be a 33-0 Jaguars win.

Here’s the celebration, plus Brown doing it again in the locker room during the celebration:
