Ohio State statistical leaders through three games

These guys in particular could be a problem Saturday.

I admit that I probably should leave something like this to the folks overs at Buckeyes Wire. Then again, that’s the whole idea behind the College Wire sites. Every site has something unique to offer, and Fighting Irish Wire is no exception. We encourage you to check out all sites to get your college sports fix, particularly at this time of year when college football is reigning supreme throughout the land.

Now that the shameless plugging is out of the way, let’s talk about why you really clicked on this link. You want to see which Ohio State players are most likely to give Notre Dame problems in one of the most anticipated college football games of the year. These are the players who are most likely to stop a resurgent start to the season for the Irish in its tracks. You probably will see a few of them in the NFL soon.

If you aren’t familiar with these Buckeyes yet, get yourself familiar with them right now:

Questions Ohio State football needs to answer against Youngstown State

What questions do you have entering this weekend for the Buckeyes? #GoBucks

The season now steps into week two for [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag], and there are still plenty of questions surrounding this team.

Some of those have been answered — at least after one week of observation, like the defense being much more sound, but there are plenty that still need to be answered by the Buckeyes. I’m sure your questions are a bit different than mine, but feel free to @ me on social if you see one come up that interests you.

Here are a few of those questions that I would love to see Ohio State football answer in their home opener against the Fighting Jim Tressels, I mean, Youngstown State.

Current Ohio State defensive tackles and their 247Sports rankings

Current Ohio State defensive tackles and their 247Sports rankings #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team has seven defensive tackles on scholarship and all were relatively high recruits based on their 247Sports recruiting rating. The interior of the defensive line showed flashes of excellence, but they were honestly a tad underwhelming. No one lived up to the hype and watching Georgia really showed how far that interior of the defensive line needs to develop to be elite.

Michael Hall was a guy who was receiving huge praise from the coaching staff and teammates, and was even compared to Aaron Donald but faded towards the end of the season. Hero Kanu was just a true freshman last season, but it is only a matter of time before a player of his size is forced to see the field. Tyleik Williams is another player who showed flashes of brilliance but also had stretches of non-existence. Enough speculation though, let’s dive into the rankings of these studs.

Ohio State freshman Hero Kanu has black stripe removed

Welcome to the brotherhood Hero Kanu! #GoBucks

It’s blackout week for the Ohio State football team as Wisconsin comes to town for a prime-time showdown. Keeping with the black theme, another Buckeye lost his black stripe: Defensive lineman Hero Kanu was officially welcomed to the brotherhood on Thursday.

Originally from Germany, Kanu played his high school football in California and was somewhat of a late bloomer. He had only played two years of football. He committed to OSU as the No. 18 defensive lineman in the 2022 class with Ohio State coaches believing he has enormous upside.

With some time under the tutelage of Larry Johnson, Kanu could become the next great defensive lineman to wear scarlet and gray. Check out what he had to say after hearing the news.

Kanu and the Buckeyes will take on Wisconsin this Saturday at 7:30 pm. Be sure to check out our preview and prediction to get you ready for the Big Ten opener.

Top ten Ohio State football recruits in the 2022 class

Top ten recruits in the 2022 class that could make an impact this season, and their scouting reports. #GoBucks

The 2022 college football season is coming up and even though most of the focus is on the returning studs like C.J. Stroud, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Paris Johnson Jr. — and rightfully so — it is still always fun diving into the possible future of the program.

Ohio State snagged a consensus top-five recruiting class and added a number of studs, and despite the defense playing less than ideal ball last season, they still snagged a number of playmakers on that side of the ball too. We here at Buckeyes Wire have been working all summer on some of the top recruits in this class and the following are the top five and a link to their scouting report.

Enjoy looking through what is widely considered the top ten commits that are incoming freshmen and the skinny on each for the 2022 season.

Ohio State football recruiting class of 2022 scouting report: Hero Kanu

Get to know incoming freshman Hero Kanu a little better. #GoBucks

The recruiting cycle for 2022 is in the books. The Ohio State Buckeyes had a consensus top-five class in the country and are considered the No. 1 class in the Big Ten by a wide margin. The defensive line hasn’t been as spectacular as we’ve seen lately, but Hero Kanu may be the missing piece.

It should be noted for those that are not familiar, recruiting classes are not like NFL draft classes. Many of these players will not see time as freshmen and will likely be redshirted. It’s also true that in the age of the transfer portal it is likely several players from this class will not be here at the end.

I wanted to at least take a dive into some of the top studs and we’ll start at the top of the recruiting class with defensive lineman, Hero Kanu and we have already previously dived into C.J. HicksDevin BrownKenyatta JacksonOmari AborKaleb BrownKyion Grayes, Gabe Powers, Tegra Tshabola and Caden Curry.

Full list of commitments made at 2022 All-American Bowl

See all 10 commitments at the All-American Bowl, including Kevin Coleman picking Jackson State, Trevor Etienne going Florida and Hero Kanu choosing Ohio State.

Ten elite players announced their universities of the future at the 2022 All-American Bowl.

Kevin Coleman, Trevor Etienne, Earnest Greene, Davison Igbinosun, Hero Kanu, Rayshon Luke, Daniel Martin, Cyrus Moss, Larry Turner-Gooden and C.J. Williams all committed to schools during the bowl.

The big surprise was Coleman choosing Jackson State, a Historically Black College & University that already had the commitment of Travis Hunter.

Etienne, meanwhile, chose Florida while Williams joined a pair of his high school teammates at USC to play under Lincoln Riley.

The West won the game 33-14, but just as exciting as the action on the field was what took place off. See a list of all 10 commitments below.

Four-star 2022 defensive lineman Hero Kanu commits to Ohio State

Boom! Ohio State has landed another one on the defensive line for the 2022 class. #GoBucks

Ohio State football has landed another top-rated defensive line recruit for the 2022 class, and it comes from an announcement at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio.

At 6-foot, 5-inches, and 293-pounds, Kanu is ranked as the No. 18 defensive lineman and 105th overall prospect in the entire class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is originally from Germany, but played his high school football at Rancho Santa Margarita, California.

Kanu had been leaning towards the Buckeyes, but you just never know until the decision comes down, and the good news was announced during the game Saturday. Now, OSU will have to keep him as part of the class until he signs his National Letter of Intent. The coaching staff believes he has a tremendous upside.

Kanu joins Kenyatta Jackson, Caden Curry, and Omari Abor as the next crop of recruits that will be working with Larry Johnson on the defensive line for the 2022 class.

That makes it 21 commitments for the class not including transfers, and bolsters Ohio State’s No. 4 overall recruiting class according to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings.

Recruiting roundup: Checking out the 2022 recruiting class and other notes

Where do the Oklahoma Sooners stand with certain players in the 2022 recruiting class?

The Oklahoma Sooners are riding a lot of momentum as the calendar has flipped to November. They are undefeated, ranked in the top eight of every major ranking, and can currently boast a top 10 recruiting class.

While the on-field product has been good and still has the potential to be great this season, great programs don’t just neglect the other part of the team. Recruiting is the lifeblood of college sports. Especially college football despite what Florida head coach Dan Mullen might suggest.

It’s a 365 days a year job and it never stops.

Despite some hiccups, the Sooners are closing in on another top 10 class for the 2022 recruiting cycle. We would seriously be talking about a top 3 class had they not lost a top 10 national recruit in Luther Burden earlier this year. They also lost Jordan Hudson and Talyn Shettron as well.

However, the Sooners picked up the slack in terms of sheer star power and talent by their October run landing two of this senior’s class best talents in Gabriel Brownlow Dindy and Gentry Williams according to the USA Today Sports High School Composite Player Rankings.

With an early signing day of December 15th, the Oklahoma Sooners can put pen to paper and close the deal for good by having many guys sign and send in their National Letters of Intent.

As it currently stands, Oklahoma’s well on its way to locking down their 2022 class as no one currently looks like a surprise flip to somewhere else at the moment with a month to go.

However, there are a few recruits who could still jump on board namely guys like Jovontae Barnes, Hero Kanu, Marvin Jones Jr., Azareyeh Thomas, and Chris McClellan.

Jovontae Barnes, a running back from Las Vegas is set to visit Oklahoma for the Iowa State game. He plans to silently commit and announce his decision at one of the winter All-Star games in January. The Sooners are in an excellent spot here if you’ve followed our coverage over the months.

Hero Kanu, a defensive lineman originally from Germany, but playing football in California, is another huge possibility for the Sooners here. Judging things right now, this seems like it may be down to Oklahoma and Ohio State, which may be a theme for Oklahoma over the next few months on the recruiting trail.

Marvin Jones Jr. plays with 2023 Sooners commit Brandon Inniss. The chance is there for them to play in college as well. Jamar Cain is on the prowl and is positioning Oklahoma to be right in the thick of it over the coming months in a battle with Alabama and Florida State for the highly talented edge rusher.

Azareyeh Thomas popped onto the scene after a visit a few weeks ago and Oklahoma is trending well enough to have garnered multiple crystal ball predictions on 247’s site. Thomas is listed as an athlete but looks to be playing safety if he plays for the Sooners.

Most, if not all of these guys will be names to monitor in the coming months as letters of intent begin to get signed and as players end their high school seasons, allowing them to focus solely on their recruiting journeys as their senior football seasons come to an end.
