Former Ohio State wide receiver Kyion Grayes trending toward new ACC member

This would be a great landing spot for Grayes

It wasn’t a surprise when now former Ohio State wide receiver [autotag]Kyion Grayes[/autotag] entered the transfer portal.

After two seasons of not being able to see the field, and while watching younger receivers jump him on the depth chart, the writing was on the wall. It was expected that the Arizona native would look West for his new football home, which looks like it will be the case.

247Sports Matt Zenitz is reporting that Grayes will most likely end up playing for California, who will be joining the ACC this coming season. As a recruit, he was highly thought of, ranking as the No. 88 overall player and 14th best receiver according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

You’d have to believe that Grayes would see playing time immediately, so this move makes total sense for him.

Four-Star receiver enters transfer portal

Four-Star receiver enters transfer portal #GoBucks

Another Ohio State football player has entered the transfer portal and it is yet another young buck in Kyion Grayes. The former four-star wide receiver comes from the state of Arizona and we see often times in this scenario, Grayes is likely to move to a spot closer to home.

It makes sense that he would want to seek opportunity elsewhere as he has spent two seasons on the bench, which includes his redshirt. The receiving depth is insane and Grayes was likely not going to see the field for a third season.

It needs to be noted that this past season, Grayes suffered an injury that did not allow him to keep for playing time. Wherever he ends up, we wish him good luck!

Ohio State football issues availability report for Indiana Hoosiers

Ohio State football issues availability report for Indiana Hoosiers #GoBucks

The fine folks with the Ohio State football team have issued the availability report for the game against the Indiana Hoosiers, and there are really no notable names that should worry Buckeye fans, but there were eight players that are depth pieces that are listed as out and they are the following:

  • S Jayden Bonsu
  • RB T.C. Caffey
  • WR Kyion Grayes
  • TE Zak Herbstreit
  • WR Joop Mitchell
  • DE Will Smith Jr.
  • WR Reis Stocksdale
  • LB Kourt Williams II

The biggest name of note is the absence of Kourt Williams, but this is not a shock as the young man has struggled with injuries throughout his collegiate career. Kyion Grayes is another player that might have seen some action as this is excepted to be a blowout and the former four-star recruit has some exciting traits. Will Smith Jr. is a true freshman who some were expecting to possibly see some action in 2023.

Ranking Ohio State wide receivers by 247Sports composite recruiting rankings

Ranking Ohio State wide receivers by 247Sports composite recruiting ranking #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program has 13 wide receivers on scholarship and appears super deep. Still, as any Buckeye fan knows, this unit took a massive hit last season with the injury to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but the youngsters stepped up in a big way.

It was a bit shocking to see Xavier Johnson return, not that he was an early-round lock for the NFL, but he will undoubtedly get a shot at the next level. There is also a ton of excitement surrounding the stud freshman arriving on campus.

We rank the scholarship wide receivers on the roster based on their 247Sports recruiting rankings. You might be surprised by some of these …

Ohio State freshman wide receiver Kyion Grayes sheds black stripe

Another Buckeye receiver lost his black stripe on Saturday. #GoBucks

It was a busy day over at the Woody Hayes Athletic Facility for the Ohio State football team Saturday. Not only was the team on the field prepping for its season opener against Notre Dame on September 3, but three Buckeyes “officially” became a part of the Buckeye brotherhood by having their black stripes removed.

Not only did running back Dallen Hayden and defensive end Kenyatta Jackson receive the honor, but so too did freshman receiver Kyion Grayes.

Grayes signed on with Ohio State as a part of the 2022 class and was ranked as the No. 14 wide receiver and 88th overall prospect in the cycle according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He was excited to have the black tape removed and celebrated with some of his teammates on Saturday in a brief ceremony.

“Aye man, I just want to say, I love and appreciate all y’all boys man,” Grayes said. “Since day one, y’all brought me in. Shoutout Coach Hart and Zone 6. You know, shoutout the strength coaches. You know, Go Bucks!”

Grayes has some big shoes to fill with how deep and talented the wide receiver position has been at Ohio State recently, but many compare him to Chris Olave with how smooth he is. We can’t wait to see what he means to OSU as this season and others to come, unfold.

Top ten Ohio State football recruits in the 2022 class

Top ten recruits in the 2022 class that could make an impact this season, and their scouting reports. #GoBucks

The 2022 college football season is coming up and even though most of the focus is on the returning studs like C.J. Stroud, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Paris Johnson Jr. — and rightfully so — it is still always fun diving into the possible future of the program.

Ohio State snagged a consensus top-five recruiting class and added a number of studs, and despite the defense playing less than ideal ball last season, they still snagged a number of playmakers on that side of the ball too. We here at Buckeyes Wire have been working all summer on some of the top recruits in this class and the following are the top five and a link to their scouting report.

Enjoy looking through what is widely considered the top ten commits that are incoming freshmen and the skinny on each for the 2022 season.

Ohio State football class of 2022 scouting report: Kyion Grayes

Ohio State football class of 2022 scouting report: Kyion Grayes #GoBucks

The recruiting cycle for 2022 is in the books. The Ohio State Buckeyes had a consensus top-five class in the country and are considered the No. 1 class in the Big Ten by a wide margin. Brian Hartline has a knack for churning out superstar receivers and this next batch should be no different.

It should be noted for those that are not familiar, recruiting classes are not like NFL draft classes. Many of these players will not see time as freshmen and will likely be redshirted. It’s also true that in the age of the transfer portal it is likely several players from this class will not be here at the end.

I wanted to at least take a dive into some of the top studs and we’ll start at the top of the recruiting class with wide receiver, Kyion Grayes and we have already previously dived into C.J. HicksDevin BrownKenyatta Jackson, Omari Abor and Kaleb Brown.

Ohio State gets commitment from 4-star 2022 receiver

Ohio State got a verbal commitment from 4-star 2022 receiver Kyion Grayes out of the state of Arizona Sunday.

They are hearing Boom! around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center Sunday. That’s because the Ohio State football program got a big verbal commitment from 4-star 2022 wide receiver Kyion Grayes.

Grayes was thought to be close to making an announcement to join the Ohio state family but wanted to take a trip to Columbus first and make sure it was a fit. He was in the Arch City this weekend for a four-day self-guided visit and must have liked what he saw.

Grayes took to Twitter and declared his intentions to begin his college football career in Columbus Sunday. The 6-foot, one-inch, 170-pounder out of Chandler, Arizona was originally committed to Arizona but opened things back up a couple of months ago. He was originally a marginal prospect in the 2022 class but has climbed considerably as Ohio State’s interest has heated up. He is currently the No. 17 wide receiver, and 172nd overall prospect in the class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Join us all in welcoming Grayes to the Buckeye family. He’s the eleventh prospect committed to what is the top-rated class in the country currently.
