Notre Dame Football quick recruiting update

The Irish would love to get some of the players who have been on campus the last week

Although the Irish didn’t quite get it done on the field this past weekend, that hasn’t stopped the momentum they have on the recruiting trail. Currently the 2022 class is considered one of the best in the country.

The 2023 class, well let’s just say they’re off to a fantastic start and look to keep adding on more talented players.

Take a look below at some of the most recent happening in Notre Dame football recruiting.

4-star 2022 California DL Hero Kanu has Georgia football in his top nine

4-star 2022 California DL Hero Kanu has Georgia in his top-9

2022 four-star defensive lineman Hero Kanu (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) placed Georgia in his top nine schools last week, according to On3Recruits.

Kanu, a 6-foot-5, 293-pound lineman, ranks as the nation’s No. 82 overall player according to 247Sports.

Kanu actually grew up playing soccer before moving to America and picking up football.

Kanu’s top nine schools are: Alabama, Clemson, Washington, Georgia, Oklahoma, LSU, Texas, USC and Ohio State.

Georgia offered Kanu at the beginning of June.

He told 247Sports that Georgia was the “first school they visited on tour loved it.”

“I’ve had a lot of contact with them before the visit, and I’m really close with coach Scott, the DL coach. I actually visited twice. The first time, we did a tour and then the camp, then after the Clemson visit, I wanted to go back and spend more time with the coaches and see more of the campus. The next time I talk with coach Smart and coach Scott, I’m going to try and get an official visit set up with them.”

Notre Dame enters mix for top ‘22 California defensive tackle

The Irish were late to the party, but have already made a very positive impression

It might have seemed like California defensive tackle Hero Kanu knew a Notre Dame offer was on it’s way. Why? Well, when Kanu dropped his top-10 schools on Friday morning, oddly there were only 9 schools included in that group.

[listicle id=17189]

The Irish weren’t included but made their presence known in his recruitment by offering Kanu a scholarship yesterday. Early this morning, the highly thought of interior defensive lineman and an addition to his 9 schools, the addition of Notre Dame.

Behind the offer was defensive line coach Mike Elston along with head coach Brian Kelly, who both were on the call when Kanu was officially offered by the Irish. They joined the likes of Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Georgia and others in the race for Kanu’s signature.

Even thought the Irish entered late into the mix for Kanu, his actions show that there is definitely a chance for him to end up in South Bend.

If Kelly and Elston are able to convince Kanu to schedule an official visit, there is potential the Irish could steal him from his other top schools. Hopefully that is the case, as Kanu would be a difference maker on Notre Dame’s defensive line.

Ohio State included in 4-star 2022 defensive tackle’s trimmed list

We’ll continue to track this recruitment. So far, so good.

Ohio State is now up to 17 players verbally committed to the class of 2022, but there’s still room for a few more. To that end, OSU is still hitting the recruiting trail hard to hit on its priority targets.

One of those appears to be 4-star 2022 defensive tackle, and top 100 prospect Hero Kanu out of Rancho Santa Margarita, California. He has offers from a slew of the big boys and just paired his list down to a personal top ten and has Ohio State as one of them.

According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Kanu is ranked as the No. 13 defensive linemen and 82nd overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle. His other finalists are Alabama, Clemson, Washington, Georgia, Oklahoma, LSU, Texas, and USC.

There does not appear to be a clear leader at this point, and nobody has gone out on a limb to move a Crystal Ball in a team’s favor, so we’ll just have to keep an eye on how things progress.

For now, file this in the piqued interest category.

Four-star defensive lineman Hero Kanu puts Texas among top schools

Texas is still in the mix for four-star defensive lineman Hero Kanu out of California.

Texas is still in the mix for one of the top defensive lineman in the 2022 recruiting class.

Four-star defensive tackle Hero Kanu announced the top nine schools left in his recruitment on Friday. The 6-foot-5, 293-pound California native is rated the No. 13 player at his position and the No. 82 overall prospect for the 2022 cycle according to 247Sports.

Alabama, LSU, Clemson, Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma, Georgia and Washington made the cut alongside Texas.

Kanu is originally from Germany and grew up playing soccer. He’s only been playing football for two years and participated in his first high school game in the United States in March for Santa Margarita Catholic (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA).

Over the month of June, Kanu took unofficial visits to LSU and Texas A&M. With proper coaching and development, he could easily become a starter at a Power Five program thanks to his natural athleticism.

Four-star defensive lineman lists the LSU Tigers among top schools

A top 10 defensive lineman in the 2022 recruiting class has named the LSU Tigers among his top school choices.

After landing a four-star linebacker recruit in DeMario Tolan recently, the LSU Tigers are now in the running for another four-star defender in Hero Kanu. The top 10 defensive tackle named his top nine schools on Twitter. The LSU Tigers are joined on the list by fellow SEC schools Alabama and Georgia.

The Tigers currently have only one other defensive lineman committed to the class in Tygee Hill. LSU and head coach Ed Orgeron will be looking to continue to add to their defense in hopes of chasing yet another National Championship trophy and bringing it back to Baton Rouge.

The 6’5″ 293 pounder would be a load to handle in the middle of the Tigers defense that is looking to avoid another season like 2020. Kanu has yet to announce when he will cut down his list or a timetable for his commitment announcement.

Oklahoma among top schools for 2022 four-star defensive lineman

Oklahoma Sooners among top schools for 2022 four-star defensive tackle from California.

The Oklahoma Sooners landed a top 2022 defensive lineman in Derrick Moore of Baltimore, Maryland. That boosted the Sooners’ class ranking inside the top five of 247Sports composite team rankings. A step in the right direction for Alex Grinch and company.

With the first defensive lineman committed, OU looks to turn their focus to California product Hero Kanu. The 2022 four-star defensive lineman ranks among the top 80 prospects in the country. He is also the No. 8 ranked defensive lineman according to Rivals.

Kanu recently had visits to Florida State Seminoles, LSU Tigers, and Texas A&M Aggies. Of the three, only LSU made the top nine group according to his post on social media. The usual suspects popped up on his list Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Louisiana State, and Ohio State. Joining the top nine list in the Big 12 Conference, Texas Longhorns are among the teams being considered. Another Red River Rivalry about to ensue over the top 10 defensive tackle in the 2022 recruiting class.
