Former Florida RB Trevor Etienne to face ‘consequences’ at UGA after arrest

Former Gators running back Trevor Etienne is in hot water at Georgia after a DUI arrest over the weekend.

Former Florida running back [autotag]Trevor Etienne[/autotag] will face in-house consequences at Georgia after a DUI arrest on Sunday, according to Kirby Smart.

“I know there’s a lot of interest in the Trevor situation from this past weekend,” Smart opened his Tuesday press conference. “I would first want to reiterate what I said last week about the kid. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know him. I think he’s a great kid, great person.

“We’ve gotten to know his family. He enjoys being coached. He’s a bright kid and we push him hard out there. He really loves the competition, but as we also know, sometimes kids don’t make the best decisions.”

Etienne was stopped on Sunday for reckless driving and a DUI test ensued after he presented signs of impairment, according to an incident report obtained by DawgsHQ. He did not consent to a field sobriety test and was released on bond early Sunday morning.

“The older you get, sometimes the tougher the consequences are for your mistakes,” Smart continued. “He’s not going to let this mistake define him. He’s embarrassed, upset and knows he made a mistake. It’s a teaching moment, and we hope he gets better from it… Disappointed in his decision-making, but he is a good kid.”

Etienne was the top running back in the transfer portal this offseason. Losing him was a bad look for Florida, but this isn’t a great start for Etienne in Athens. Georgia’s in-house discipline should manifest in the form of a suspension.

Etienne’s impact at Florida

The former four-star recruit played in all 13 games as a freshman at Florida, rushing for 719 yards and six touchdowns. He topped those numbers in 2023, putting up 753 yards and eight touchdowns in two fewer games.

Many fans viewed Etienne as Florida’s most talented rusher, but Montrell Johnson Jr. served as the team’s lead back for the past two seasons.

Approaching draft eligibility and knowing Johnson would likely return for his senior year, Etienne decided to make a change and join a winning team. His off-the-field actions could hurt his draft stock, though.

Georgia running back Trevor Etienne’s possible suspension could significantly impact Clemson vs. Georgia

Georgia could be without one of their top offensive weapons for their season opener against Clemson.

Former Clemson star running back Travis Etienne’s younger brother Trevor is a star in his own right, transferring to Georgia in the offseason to bolster the Bulldogs offense even further.

As many of you likely know by now, the Tigers face Georgia for their season opener and Etienne’s status for that is in question. Over the weekend, Etienne was arrested on DUI charges, with a possible suspension on the way. This could seriously impact the matchup between Clemson and the Bulldogs.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart touched on the situation during a press conference Tuesday.

“As we also know, sometimes kids don’t make the best decisions,” Smart said. “The older you get, sometimes the tougher the consequences are for your mistakes. So, he’s not going to let this mistake define him. He’s embarrassed. He’s upset. He knows he made a mistake. It’s a teaching moment, and we hope he gets better from it.”

If disciplinary actions are taken, Etienne could miss the entire game. Without one of their top offensive weapons, the Tigers’ chances naturally increase. This will be a situation to monitor closely.

Kirby Smart shares comments on Trevor Etienne arrest

Here’s what Smart had to say about Trevor Etienne’s recent arrest…

Georgia’s spring practice took a sour turn over the weekend as Florida transfer running back Trevor Etienne was arrested for multiple charges, including driving under the influence, early Sunday morning.

Kirby Smart issued a statement on the matter during Tuesday’s press conference.

“I would first want to reiterate what I said last week about the kid,” Smart said. “I’ve really enjoyed getting to know him. I think he’s a great kid, great person. We’ve gotten to know his family. He enjoys being coached. He’s a bright kid and we push him hard out there. He really loves the competition, but as we also know, sometimes kids don’t make the best decisions.

The older you get sometimes the tougher the consequences are for your mistakes. He’s not going to let this mistake define him. He’s embarrassed, upset and knows he made a mistake. It’s a teaching moment, and we hope he gets better from it.”

Smart also added that Etienne will be subjected to both university and team discipline.

Etienne signed with the Bulldogs this offseason after two seasons at Florida. He was rated as the No. 3 transfer tailback in the country, per 247Sports.

With Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards headed to the 2024 NFL draft, Etienne is considered one of the top options to get starting reps in Georgia’s young running back room.

Smart shared glowing remarks about Etienne in his opening press conference this spring.

“Everything we’ve heard about Etienne before he got here has held true, he’s a tremendous leader, he’s a high character kid, so he immediately surges into a leadership role,” Smart said at the opening spring football press conference. He’s not a first-year player. He’s been in our league and our conference, and he has standards and expectations.”

The Bulldogs will continue spring practice leading up to the annual G-Day scrimmage game on Saturday, April 13 in Sanford Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET, televised on SEC Network+.

Projecting UGA’s running back depth chart ahead of spring practice

Looking at Georgia football’s depth chart at running back ahead of 2024 spring practice.

The Georgia Bulldogs continue to have some concerns at running back for the 2024 season. Georgia lost its two leading rushers, Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards, from the 2023 season.

The Dawgs address their need at running back via the transfer portal. Georgia added Florida star running back Trevor Etienne earlier this offseason. Etienne figures to see a large workload. Georgia additionally signed three running back recruits, but only one of them is enrolled for the spring.

Trevor Etienne is the Georgia running back we trust the most in passing and rushing situations. Georgia has several other strong options at running back. There are certain Bulldog running backs we like more than others depending on the down and distance and the score of the game, which dictates if it is a rushing or passing situation.

Who are the Georgia running backs we expect to receive carries this fall? How do we rank the Georgia running back depth chart entering spring practice?

New Georgia RB Trevor Etienne named CFB’s most impactful addition of 2024

Trevor Etienne tops the list of college football’s best additions of 2024

Georgia football’s 2024 roster boasts a strong core of returning players, but the additions made through the transfer portal should not be underestimated. Head coach Kirby Smart carefully selects transfers, indicating that these new players could make significant contributions early on this fall.

Former Florida tailback Trevor Etienne is considered the standout of the 2024 transfer class, according to 247Sports. The outlet named Etienne college football’s most impactful addition of the year.

Etienne, who stands 5-foot-9, 218 pounds, will have two years of eligibility remaining after spending two seasons in Gainesville. The Jennings, La., native totaled 249 carries for 1,472 yards with an average of 5.9 yards per carry and 14 touchdowns. He also caught 30 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown. Etienne led all Gators with eight touchdowns in 2023.

Etienne is known for his skills as a ball carrier, but his ability as a receiver out of the backfield shouldn’t be overlooked. Georgia has found success using James Cook and Kenny McIntosh in that role during the program’s recent back-to-back national title runs.

Beyond Etienne, Georgia returns no shortage of talent at tailback. What the Bulldogs lack is experience. Walk-on Cash Jones is the only senior of the group. Roderick Robinson returns as a sophomore and Andrew Paul as a redshirt sophomore. Brian Robinson, who is still recovering from torn patella tendon, returns as a redshirt sophomore.

The Bulldogs added some special talent at running back in the 2024 recruiting class. UGA signed the No. 2 player at the position in Nate Frazier, along with Dwight Phillips Jr. (No. 14) and Chauncey Bowens (No. 15), per 247Sports.

Trevor Etienne transferred to Georgia from Florida. He is projected to UGA’s No. 1 running back this fall

The Georgia Bulldogs earned a commitment from elite transfer running back Trevor Etienne earlier this offseason. Etienne is the No. 2 running back in the transfer portal and the No. 30 transfer in the country, per 247Sports.

The former Florida Gators running back has good vision and balance. Trevor Etienne displays promise as a pass-catcher in his highlights and should immediately be Georgia’s top receiving threat out of the backfield. Etienne is explosive after the catch.

The 5-foot-9, 205-pound running back has a low center of gravity and should put up big numbers in the Georgia offense. Trevor Etienne projects to be Georgia’s starting running back once he gets up to speed in UGA’s system. Etienne has no career lost fumbles, so he can be trusted in key situations.

Let’s take a look back at Trevor Etienne’s career highlights and statistics:

Florida fans hate see Etienne transfer to their biggest rival. As a sophomore, Etienne recorded 131 carries, 753 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Etienne is also a skilled pass catcher out of the backfield. Last season, he caught 21 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown.

Georgia football fans are fired up to add another talented transfer!

Trevor Etienne announces transfer destination

Trevor Etienne is heading to the SEC.

A former Clemson great younger brother is transferring to one of the top programs in the country.

Early in December, running back Trevor Etienne entered the transfer portal with his time as a Florida Gator coming to an end. Clemson fans had some hopes that Gibbs may take his talents to where his brother succeeded so much, but Etienne is heading elsewhere.

On Christmas Eve, Etienne announced that he would be transferring to Georgia to play for the Bulldogs. A huge pickup for Georgia, Etienne was one of the top names in the transfer portal.

Even more so now, eyes will be on Will Shipley and if he may return to Clemson for another season.

Former Florida RB Trevor Etienne transferring to UGA

Florida already knew it was likely losing running back Trevor Etienne to the transfer portal, but losing him to Georgia makes it that much worse.

The Florida Gators have lost one of its best offensive weapons to its most bitter in-conference rival.

Former UF running back [autotag]Trevor Etienne[/autotag] announced his commitment to the University of Georgia on Christmas Eve through On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett. Rumors of Etienne picking Florida’s most-hated SEC rival began almost immediately after he hit the portal, but there was some hope that the Gators would be able to convince him to stay.

Losing Etienne is a massive blow to Florida’s offense. Through two seasons in Gainesville, he racked up 1,472 yards and 14 touchdowns on 249 carries. He led the team in yards per carry and yards per game last season as well.

Florida head coach Billy Napier praised Etienne when speaking to the media on Wednesday.

“I think Trevor’s been great for the Gators,” Napier said. “I’ve got nothing but respect for Trevor. His attitude, his practice habits, his contribution to the team, nothing but respect. We wish him well going forward.”

As much as Napier is trying to avoid burning a bridge, emotions are going to play a factor on Nov. 2 at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville. Florida has one of the toughest schedules in the country, but the Gators will be ready for the big game.

Florida senior defensive lineman Cam Jackson made that clear.

Only time will tell if Etienne made the right choice.

Former Gators running back, EDGE among The Athletic’s top transfers

It’s pretty clear that the Gators are losing some top talent to the transfer portal this year.

A handful of former Florida Gators have entered the college football transfer portal with a few still looking to find their new homes. Some of these players are among the top available athletes in this year’s edition of the sport’s de facto free agency system.

The Athletic’s Max Olson put together a ranked list of the top 25 student-athletes in the portal which included a pair of ex-Orange and Blue players in the top 10. First on the list is running back [autotag]Trevor Etienne[/autotag], who was Florida’s second-most productive offensive backfield player in 2023.

“Etienne lived up to the hype as an instant difference-maker for the Gators, with 1,710 yards from scrimmage and 15 total touchdowns in his first two seasons,” Olson begins. “The younger brother of Jaguars star Travis Etienne Jr. has forced 70 missed tackles as a rusher and gained 987 yards after contact, according to Pro Football Focus.

Georgia is the reported frontrunner for Etienne as the missing piece their offense needed this season,” he continued. “Whether Etienne goes to Athens or anywhere else, he can be as impactful as anybody in this cycle.”

Also included on the list was edge defender [autotag]Princely Umanmielen[/autotag] who came in at No. 8 on the list and recently committed to the Ole Miss Rebels.

“The 6-foot-4 1/2, 255-pound edge defender developed into a two-year starter for the Gators and was one of the most disruptive pass rushers in the SEC this season with 46 pressures, 11.5 TFLs and seven sacks according to PFF. Umanmielen has one more season of eligibility, and Ole Miss has reportedly emerged as a frontrunner for his pledge.”

It seems Olson’s prediction came to fruition on Umanmielen’s destination. Hopefully, the noted projection for Etienne is way off base… for the sake of the Gator Nation.
