Former Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins signs with interesting NFL team

Well this will be an odd reunion. #GoBucks

The rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan doesn’t end after the players move on to the next level, but sometimes there are odd pairings in the NFL.

That happened on Wednesday evening, as it was announced that [autotag]J.K. Dobbins[/autotag] had signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, the new home of former Michigan head coach [autotag]Jim Harbaugh[/autotag]. The back joined another former Buckeye in defensive end Joey Bosa, and center Corey Linsley.

It will surely be an interesting marriage between Dobbins and his new coach. Unfortunately, for the former Buckeye, injuries have derailed his NFL success as he has missed numerous game over his career.

When Dobbins is healthy, his upside is astronomical. We wish him good health, and success, but the same can’t be said about his head coach.

In-state Ohio State football target commits to Georgia

It will be interesting how he does with the Bulldogs. #GoBucks

In the 2025 recruiting cycle, there were two elite quarterback prospects, Tavien St. Clair and [autotag]Ryan Montgomery[/autotag].

Ohio State football recruited both of them, and made it clear, whoever entered the fold first would be the only quarterback in the class. Well, St. Clair pulled the trigger in June of last year, leaving Montgomery, the brother of current Buckeye offensive lineman Luke, to find another home.

The younger Montgomery made his decision on Wednesday, committing to the Georgia Bulldogs. When looking at the 247Sports Composite Rankings for each of the players, it seems clear that Ohio State got the better of the two — though time will tell.

St. Clair is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and 17th overall prospect, while Montgomery is the No. 14 at the position and 170th overall player.

As with many prospects who didn’t end up in Columbus, we will keep a watchful eye on how Montgomery does in his time in Athens.

What did spring football games look like from potential playoff opponents?

Spring games for a handful of teams are complete. Some of them had our attention on Saturday. Continue reading “Impressions from potential Texas playoff opponents’ spring games”

Ohio State safety to enter transfer portal

In case you missed it, it’s portal time again. #GoBucks

‘Tis that time of the year again, the second transfer portal window has opened up, and we already have one Ohio State football player that has decided to have his name get sucked in.

After just one season in Columbus, safety Cedrick Hawkins announced his plans to enter into the transfer portal. He didn’t receive any playing time at all during his freshman campaign after coming to to OSU as a four-star prospect out of Titusville, Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Although Hawkins played considerably in the spring game, he’s stuck behind a lot of depth in the secondary, so his choice to enter the portal is not that surprising. With Caleb Downs transferring from Alabama and a ton of young depth already in place, it was always going to be hard for him to get on the field for meaningful and consistent snaps.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on any comings and goings in and around the portal through the close of the window on April 30.

Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Garrett Stover

Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Garrett Stover #GoBucks

Ohio State football had another dominant recruiting class and landed a consensus top-five class in the country. Once again, the class features serious star power and was able to snag some amazing talent on the defensive side of the football including an extremely impressive linebacker from its own backyard.

Name: Garrett Stover

High School: Big Walnut (Sunbury, OH)

Height: 6 feet, 0 inches

Weight: 214 pounds

Position: Linebacker

Strengths

Garrett Stover has surprising speed and unique explosiveness likely hitting the 4.45 seconds range in the forty-yard dash, which should translate to an ability to handle Big Ten speed. He is just an overall excellent athlete with the strength and power to see the field early as well. Given his size and athleticism, versatility will also be a key trait for Stover as he may see some time at safety in addition to linebacker.

What to watch from contenders in April 13 spring games

Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama headline the key spring games on April 13.

Spring game season ramps up on Saturday. Three major college football contenders in Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama are all set to take the field on April 13.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are first on Fox’s Big Noon feature, followed by the Georgia Bulldogs on ESPN+ and Alabama Crimson Tide on ESPN in the afternoon. The three programs are all in different places in their trajectory.

Georgia is the team with the least to prove with two national titles and an Orange Bowl victory over the last three seasons. Nevertheless, the game will be worth monitoring for Texas who will host the team in late October. The Bulldogs’ offensive line has generated buzz as a dominant unit this offseason. That group could be what decides the game in Austin.

Ohio State is looking to go from a postseason disappointment to a team that returns to competing for national titles as it did in 2020. Current head coach Ryan Day breaks in new portal playmakers who will be heavily relied upon in 2024. How quarterback Will Howard runs the offense will be worth observing in the spring game.

Alabama is starting over after head coach Nick Saban retired to cap a decade and a half of dominance. The Tide brings in perhaps the best coach they could find in Kalen DeBoer and one used to quickly turning around past programs at Washington and before. Jalen Milroe is still there at quarterback, but several starters and coaches are gone from last season. We’ll see how quick the Crimson Tide has been able to install its offense this spring.

The above three games are the ones worth keeping an eye on when they take the field Saturday. The day should shed light on who the Longhorns could compete for a title against in 2024.

Ohio State football offers 2026 Texas running back

The Bucks have offered a big time Texas running back. #GoBucks

It has been quite the whirlwind for Ohio State football and its running backs.

Earlier on Monday, it was reported that Dallan Hayden would enter the transfer portal once it opens again. With that subtraction, the Buckeyes are trying to make an addition for the future, as they offered 2026 Texas running back [autotag]Javian Osborne[/autotag].

The 5-foot, 10-inch, 188-pound back isn’t currently ranked, but has a very impressive offer list. Already Osborne held offers from Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Michigan, and others, before Ohio State entered the mix.

The Buckeyes do have a commitment in Osborne’s class, wide receiver Chris Henry Jr., but obviously don’t have one at his position currently.

Osborne will be tough to lure up north, but if one school has shown they can consistently get Texas players to do so, it’s Ohio State.

Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Bryce West

Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Bryce West #GoBucks

Ohio State football had another dominant recruiting class and landed a consensus top-five class in the country. Once again, the class features serious star power and were able to snag some amazing defensive backs and one specifically who is also homegrown in Bryce West from Glenville.

Name: Bryce West

High School: Glenville (Cleveland, OH)

Height: 5 feet, 11 inches

Weight: 196 pounds

Position: Cornerback

Strengths

Bryce West has the ideal size to play in the Big Ten now with great length and the frame to add another 15 pounds. He is also pure speed and reaches that top speed immediately. He checks all of the physical boxes that you look for in a Big Ten starting cornerback.

2026 Georgia linebacker set to visit Ohio State this weekend

Another linebacker recruit on the prowl in Columbus this weekend. #GoBucks

Ohio State promoting James Laurinaitis to linebacker has already paid dividends on the recruiting trail.

The Buckeyes landed a commitment from 2025 four-star linebacker, Tarvos Alford, in late March. Ohio State also locked into a June visit with 2025 five-star linebacker, Johan Williams, on Sunday.

Another linebacker is set to visit Ohio State as Anthony Davis, a four-star linebacker in the 2026 class, announced on Tuesday that he will visit the Columbus this weekend as well.

The 6-foot-1, 190 pound linebacker attends Grayson high school in Georgia, and is the 25th ranked linebacker in the 2026 class on On3 Industry rankings.

Davis has received a lot of interest from programs around the country as he already has 24 offers. This list includes Auburn, Tennessee, Oregon, Michigan, and Notre Dame.

The Buckeyes haven’t put out an offer to Davis yet. However, with the talented linebacker set to visit this weekend, it appears likely that an offer from Ohio State will come soon.

Black Stripe Alert! Freshman phenom Julian Sayin loses black stripe

So you’re “Sayin” he’s pretty good! #GoBucks

They say this kid is pretty good. Freshman phenom Julian Sayin has lost his black stripe and is officially a member of the brotherhood. Sayin originally committed to Alabama but in the wake of Nick Saban’s unexpected retirement, the five-star quarterback entered the transfer portal and chose Ohio State.

Sayin was ranked as the No. 3 overall quarterback in the 2024 class according to 247Sports composite rankings. Some saw the move as a shock as the Buckeyes already had Air Noland who was ranked as the No. 7 overall QB. From all accounts, the Carlsbad, California native is fitting in just fine in Columbus and many who have eyes on the ground say he could be pushing for playing time early.

We’d be shocked if he gets the nod over Will Howard or Devin Brown this season, but next year… look out. This young man is looking to make a name for himself in Scarlet and Gray.
