Taking an early look at the Kentucky football 2024 roster: Running back

Taking a look at the running back position for the 2024 Kentucky Wildcats

In 2023, the running back position for the Kentucky Wildcats was dominated by Ray Davis. Davis became a star, rushing for over 1,100 and scoring a total of 21 touchdowns.

With Davis leaving for the NFL, the starting spot will be up for grabs. Kentucky’s offense works best when the running game is good, so they’ll need someone to step into the starting spot who can be effective.

Chip Trayanum might be the favorite to start next season. The transfer from Ohio State is a former four star recruit who rushed for 373 years for the Buckeyes last year. At 235 lbs, he runs with power, and will run through tackles.

Senior Demie Sumo-Karngbaye transferred to Kentucky last season and ran for 139 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a touchdown pass.

Jamarion Wilcox is an explosive player who the Wildcats could use in a variety of ways. He may not be the lead back, but he’ll get plenty of chances to see the field.

La’Vell Wright rushed for 120 yards in 2022, but was injured last season, and didn’t see any action. If he can stay healthy, he should be able to contribute.

Another Freshman, Jason Patterson, will look to find some playing time in the rotation next season.

The running game will be a big part of Kentucky’s offense next season. It will be interesting to watch and see who breaks out from this group.

Chip Trayanum announces transfer to SEC school

Good luck to “Chip.” #GoBucks

One of the most memorable moments of the season for Ohio State football is when it went into South Bend, Indiana, and beat Notre Dame in the last few seconds of the contest. It was a two-minute (actually less than that) drive for the ages with quarterback Kyle McCord pulling the strings.

While McCord engineered the drive all the way down the field, it was running back, Chip Trayanum, that scored the winning 1-yard plunge with just a few seconds remaining for a 17-14 victory. Last year was Trayanum’s second year in the scarlet and gray after transferring from Arizona State before the 2022 season as a linebacker.

That touchdown at Notre Dame was the highlight of the year for Trayanum. Once running back TreVeyon Henderson got healthy, he got the lion’s share of the carries and became a dynamic playmaker on the ground. “Chip” finished the season as the second-leading rusher for the Buckeyes with 373 yards and three touchdowns on 85 carries (4.4 avg.).

Trayanum entered the transfer portal on December 4, and since then there’s been speculation on where he could end up. The end of that speculation came on Tuesday when he announced his commitment (subscription may be required) to the University of Kentucky.

Of course, as we always say … once a Buckeye always a Buckeye, so we’ll be rooting for the Ohio native to do well down in the Bluegrass state. He has one season of eligibility left.

Ohio State running back Chip Trayanum enters transfer portal

Another Buckeye hits the portal this time as a grad transfer. #GoBucks

Add another loss to the Ohio State roster. Chip Trayanum announced Wednesday he will once again enter the transfer portal.

Trayanum spent the past two seasons in Scarlet and Gray after spending his first two years at Arizona State. As a Sun Devil, Trayanum rushed for 692 yards and 10 touchdowns. However, when the Ohio native transferred to Ohio State, the plan was for him to play linebacker. With the rash of injuries at running back in the fall of 2022, Trayanum went back to the offensive side of the ball to add depth.

Trayanum platooned in the backfield again in 2023 rushing for 373 yards and three touchdowns. The biggest of those touchdowns came in South Bend, Indiana, in the closing seconds to give the Buckeyes a win over Notre Dame, a win fans will long remember.

Trayanum is the 13th member of the football team to enter the transfer portal this season. He does so as a graduate of Ohio State and will seek a new home as a grad transfer. Best of luck to Chip in his next steps.

Ohio State football vs Purdue: Five observations halftime review

Ohio State football vs Purdue: Five observations halftime review #GoBucks

We are at halftime of what looks to be a fairly dominant Ohio State football victory over the Purdue Boilermakers. Ohio State is currently leading Purdue, 20-0 going into halftime, and is already winning against the spread as well.

It is hard to nitpick what looks like a potential perfect game, because both Ohio State’s offense and defense have been lights out. It should be noted that the Boilermakers have shown a propensity to shoot themselves in the foot as well.

Despite the abundance of injuries to the Buckeyes, this may be the best performance we have seen from this offense this season. The following are five observations from the first half.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day earns national recognition after defeat of Notre Dame

Congrats coach Day! Well deserved! #GoBucks

Now that it is over, [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag]’s gutsy win against Notre Dame was really fun to watch.

The stress of a big game is over, the collective sigh of relief could have been heard from anywhere in Columbus when running back [autotag]Chip Trayanum[/autotag] barely got into the end zone for the winning score.

Following the game, Buckeyes head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] went off on the doubters, one very specifically, and rightfully so. His team had just won a game many believed they couldn’t, a physical contest.

The win earned Day some national recognition on Monday, as the [autotag]Dodd Trophy[/autotag] named him their national coach of the week.

In the release, the chairman of the Dodd foundation Jim Terry said coach Day “had his team prepared to fight to the very last second a pull out a huge road victory against a top-10 opponent.”

The Buckeye coach got plenty of peoples attention this weekend. Congrats coach Day!

Which Ohio State football players earned Buckeye leaves against Notre Dame

Which Buckeyes stood out to you? #GoBucks

It was one dramatic Saturday evening for Ohio State football, as they battled the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and outlasted them for a 17-14 road victory.

The Buckeyes had a game winning 15-play, 65-yard touchdown drive, leaving the Irish with just one second left to try to scramble for a victory. It was snuffed out and elation ensued from the Ohio State sidelines.

Some of those helmets flying around will be adding more of the famed Buckeye leaf stickers before we see them next in the longest two weeks ever. These are the players that I think will have a lot more of their helmet covered up.

Last second touchdown lifts Ohio State over Notre Dame

What. A. Game. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team traveled to South Bend to take on Notre Dame in one of the most anticipated college football games of the year. The game sure lived up to the hype as the game all came down to one final play.

Down four with just three seconds left on the clock, running back Chip Trayanum got the ball, plunged forward, and stretched the ball over the goal line by a matter of inches to give the Buckeyes a thrilling last-second victory, 17-14.

The final minutes were drama induced. Ohio State got the ball with 1:26 left on their own 35-yard line. The Buckeyes drove down to set up the goal line situation with multiple big throws from Kyle McCord after being criticized heavily on social media during the game.

Take that.

On a third down and 10 early in the drive Emeka Egbuka ran a nasty route to separation over the middle for 23-yard completion. The Buckeyes also completed a fourth down on the drive when McCord hit Julian Fleming over the middle to extend the game.

McCord’s biggest throw of the game winning drive was another strike to Emeka Egbuka on a 3rd and 19 with 15 seconds left for a first down to the one-yard line. The offense struggled at times in this game but executed with the game on the line to earn the victory.

The Buckeyes defense deserves an enormous amount of credit for this game as they held a Notre Dame offense that has put up 40+ points in each of their first four games scoreless in the first half and to just 14 points on the night.

The unit has had three strong performances against weaker opponents, but tonight show they can hold up against high caliber opponents as well.

This is a massive win for the Buckeyes as they not only add a top ten road victory to their resume but also gain confidence moving forward this season with the toughness and resiliency they showed in tonight’s thrilling game.

On to the next one now which includes an off week next Saturday with everything still in play.

5 stars: The best and worst of Ohio State’s epic win at Notre Dame

Has your heart rate leveled out yet? # GoBucks

The [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] team gritted out a road win against Notre Dame, virtually walking the game off with a [autotag]Chip Trayanum[/autotag] 1-yard touchdown plunge to a final score of 17-14.

When you get a top-10 win away from home, there isn’t much that you can complain about, but as we always do with our Buckeyes, we want more. That might be a curse, but when we are talking about Ohio State, we just want the best.

There was a whole lot of good from this game too, so let’s break down who played very well, 5-stars, and who didn’t in Ohio State’s thrilling 17-14 victory in Notre Dame Stadium. (Note: I didn’t have any parts of the defense on here because they were awesome. No complaints from me there.)

Thoughts on Notre Dame having only 10 players on for Ohio State TD

How did this happen?

A lot of fingers will be pointed as to who was to blame in Notre Dame’s 17-14 heartbreaking loss to Ohio State. Truth be told, there were a few plays on the Buckeyes’ final possession that the Irish’s defense should have made. Otherwise, Chip Trayanum doesn’t even have a chance to run in for the winning score. But would he have scored on that play if the Irish had all 11 players on the field?

Yeah, there was a lot of talk about this on social media after the game. Here’s how the Irish were lined up before the winning play:

When asked to comment, [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] said the following:

There obviously was some sort of miscommunication on the sidelines. Whether the players or coaches were at fault is irrelevant. As far as this situation is concerned, the whole team bears responsibility, and there is little doubt this will hang over them. All of the memes and jokes that come from this will be deserved as it may have cost the Irish their biggest win in decades.

Questions Ohio State football needs to answer against Youngstown State

What questions do you have entering this weekend for the Buckeyes? #GoBucks

The season now steps into week two for [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag], and there are still plenty of questions surrounding this team.

Some of those have been answered — at least after one week of observation, like the defense being much more sound, but there are plenty that still need to be answered by the Buckeyes. I’m sure your questions are a bit different than mine, but feel free to @ me on social if you see one come up that interests you.

Here are a few of those questions that I would love to see Ohio State football answer in their home opener against the Fighting Jim Tressels, I mean, Youngstown State.
