Ohio State basketball transfer target commits elsewhere

A loss, but keep moving forward. #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team has been very busy this offseason. It hired/promoted its new head coach, had some guys depart via the transfer portal, hired some new assistants, and gained some guys via that same transfer portal.

But the Buckeyes were looking for more, and probably still will be. However, one of its main targets in the portal decided to commit elsewhere on Wednesday.

Former Oakland guard Trey Townsend was down to Arizona and Ohio State in his final two, but decided to commit to the Wildcats rather than back the U-Haul up to the banks of the Olentangy.

Townsend averaged 17.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists last season. Who knows what kind of transition he can make at a higher level of play, but he showed flashes of being a playmaker no matter what the competition.

For OSU, there’s no doubt that it’s a miss, so the coaching staff will more than likely continue to see what makes sense to continue to construct a roster it hopes can compete for the Big Ten and potentially more next season.

Former Ohio State guard Scotty Middleton chooses transfer destination

One former Buckeye hoops star has found his new home. #GoBucks

Former Ohio State guard Scotty Middleton is ready to submit his change of address form with the post office.

Middleton played quite a bit for the Buckeyes last season as a freshman and showed flashes of what made him a highly regarded prospect when former OSU coach Chris Holtmann landed him in the 2022 class. As with every year, the transfer portal became tempting for the young freshman and he jumped into it after a 2023-2024 season that did not go as well as many would have wanted in Columbus.

Now, after looking at his options, Middleton has decided to transfer to Seton Hall to begin anew according to an announcement he made on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday.

We wish Middleton nothing but the best with the three years he has remaining and will look to follow how things go in South Orange, New Jersey, beginning this upcoming season.

Former Ohio State football player signs with the UFL

Former Buckeye signs with the UFL #GoBucks

The United Football League (UFL) is underway and there are a few former Ohio State football stars who are making an impact. Aside from that though, there is a new Buckeye who signed with the league on April 23 in former punter, Drue Chrisman.

Ohio State fans will remember Chrisman as the punter for the Buckeyes from 2016 through 2020. He was a big get in that 2016 recruiting class. Despite only being a punter, he was involved in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Chrisman was a part of a legendary run as a Buckeye as they won four Big Ten Championships in a row (I wish for those days again).

Chrisman had a brief cups of coffee with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers, but will be hoping to catch on with his new UFL team. The Birmingham Stallions signed Chrisman and he hope to see him shine in the spring league. The Stallions play the Houston Roughnecks this Saturday at 7:00 P.M on Fox.

Ohio State football now has the No. 1 2026 prospect according to On3

The Buckeyes recruiting machine could sign the top prospect two of the last three years

When [autotag]Chris Henry Jr.[/autotag] committed to Ohio State football, his 2026 class wasn’t ranked, but I surmised that he should be one of the top players in the country when an update was made.

Since then, there have been numerous updates and the most recent one by On3 has Henry as the top overall prospect in the class. Since he committed to the Buckeyes, he has moved out of Ohio and landed in California.

There is good and bad with the move, as the West coach teams now have inroads with Henry, while the good is that he will be playing against much tougher competition, preparing him for when he eventually arrives in Columbus.

Regardless of that, Henry is still committed to Ohio State and he would be the second No. 1 prospect to sign with the Buckeyes in the last three cycles, with [autotag]Jeremiah Smith[/autotag] being the other.

Ohio State football offers California 2026 athlete

The Buckeyes are going hard after 2026 running backs. #GoBucks

It looks like new Ohio State football running backs coach Carlos Locklyn is trying to make his mark on the recruiting trail.

Two different offers went out to 2026 running backs on Tuesday, with Jonathan Hatton Jr. getting the first, and [autotag]Deshonne Redeaux[/autotag] being the second. The California native stands 5-foot, 10-inches and weighs 180-pounds, and has an impressive offer list to back up his ranking.

The 247Sports Composite Rankings have Redeaux as the No. 3 back in the country and 51st overall prospect in the nation, but could also end up on the other side of the ball. Like Hatton Jr., Locklyn had been recruiting Redeaux while at Oregon, which obviously gives them a previous relationship.

The difference between the two is the Redeaux isn’t committed, so he may be the easier target to eventually land with the Buckeyes.

Ohio State football offers 2026 Oklahoma running back commit

The Bucks are trying to flip the Sooner commit. #GoBucks

The 2026 recruiting class has a good amount of time before everyone signs letters of intent, and Ohio State football is using that time to try and make up ground with some committed prospects.

One of those is Oklahoma running back verbal, [autotag]Jonathan Hatton Jr.[/autotag], who was offered a Buckeye scholarship on Tuesday. The 6-foot, 1-inch, 193-pound ball carrier is one of the top recruits in his class, ranking as the No. 52 overall player and 4th at his position according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The offer was given out by new running backs coach Carlos Locklyn, who previously was recruiting Hatton Jr., a Texas native, when he was at Oregon.

The hope is that the previous relationship will give the Buckeyes some positive momentum in Hatton Jr.’s recruitment.

Former Notre Dame commit enters the transfer portal

Will the Irish recruiting him again?

At one point in time, it looked like Notre Dame football was going to sign Kansas running back Dylan Edwards.

A late flip to Colorado saw one of the nations most electric players leave the Irish’s class and sign with the Buffaloes. His first season was solid as Edwards ran for 321 yards with a touchdown and was a threat receiving with 299 yards and 4 scores.

He saw his playing time dwindle as the season progress and then the addition of Ohio State transfer Dallan Hayden pushed Edwards to enter the transfer portal. As of this moment, it’s hard to know if he could consider Notre Dame, but it may be worth reaching out even if the running back room looks very good for the Irish.

Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. signs shoe deal with abnormal company

A first for Harrison Jr. #GoBucks

As we all know, and if you didn’t, Ohio State athletics is sponsored by Nike.

Many of the Buckeye athletes can be seen around campus wearing the Swoosh, and some do the same at the next level. [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag] is paving his own way, as it was announced on Tuesday that the star wide receiver has signed a shoe deal with New Balance.

Harrison is far from the face of the brand, as Los Angeles Dodgers superstar pitcher and hitter, [autotag]Shohei Ohtani[/autotag], also has a deal with them, but he is the first football player to do so.

It is a huge week for the Buckeye, as Harrison Jr. will soon find out where he will play next as the NFL draft is set to begin on Thursday. Many expect Harrison to be selected early, and that should be the case.

Ohio State men’s volleyball to take on Grand Canyon in first round of NCAA Tournament

As we look ahead, the Ohio State men’s volleyball team knows its first opponent in the NCAA Tournament. #GoBucks

In case you missed it, the Ohio State men’s volleyball team went on a little run and won the MIVA tournament over the weekend. Not only is it another Big Ten title for the men’s program but it also resulted in a punched ticket to the NCAA Tournament as an automatic qualifier.

What we didn’t know when the OSU team won is what its opponent would be when the brackets were revealed. We do know, however. As the No. 6 seed in the tournament, the Buckeyes will be making their 23rd appearance in the NCAA tournament and will face No. 3 seed Grand Canyon on April 30 in Long Beach, California.

In fact, all of the matches for the 2024 NCAA tournament will be played at the Walter Pyramid with Long Beach State University serving as the host institution. The games will take place from April 30 to May 4.

OSU is 16-3 overall in the series with the Antelopes who used to be a part of the MIVA. The two last met a season ago with Grand Canyon taking the match by a 3-2 score on January 14, 2023.

We’ll follow all of the action as it happens and bring you the result complete with a recap, stay stay tuned.

Former Ohio State guard Roddy Gayle plans to transfer to Michigan

This one stings a little. #GoBucks

Roddy Gayle Jr. has done the unthinkable. After a weekend visit to Ann Arbor, Gayle has committed to play for the Michigan Wolverines.

Gayle entered the transfer portal in early April after Meechie Johnson was added to the roster via the portal. Johnson spent the last two years in South Carolina after spending his first two years at Ohio State. It was reported that Gayle had recently taken a visit to Creighton, but he must have really liked what he saw up north as the commitment comes just a couple of days after his visit to Michigan.

Of course, Michigan just hired a new head coach by the name of Dusty May who was thought to be a in consideration for the OSU job vacated by the firing of Chris Holtmann. May of course led Florida Atlantic to a Final Four just a year ago, but Ohio State chose to stay in-house and remove the interim tag to name Jake Diebler the new man in charge of Buckeye basketball.

Always adding intrigue to the rivalry, May 9was hired by Michigan and has now plucked away a key piece from the OSU basketball team as he looks to rebuild from a mess left by former Wolverine head coach, Juwan Howard. While it sounds somewhat like a movie script, you just can’t make this stuff up.

Gayle would have given Ohio State a formative one-two punch coming back with guard Bruce Thornton. He averaged 13.5 points per game for the Buckeyes and that scoring production will be sorely missed.

When Gayle returns to Value City Arena now, he’ll for sure be greeted with a chorus of boos … and most likely some other choice words.
