Texas lands commitment from four-star safety Larry Turner-Gooden

BOOM! Texas adds another key piece to their 2022 class.

Longhorns fans who tuned in to NBC for the All-American Bowl were treated to some good news on Saturday as Larry Turner-Gooden announced his commitment to Texas.

The four-star safety chose Texas over the likes of USC, Colorado, Missouri, Maryland and Penn State.

247Sports composite ranks Turner-Gooden as the No. 15 safety in the country and No. 13 player from Calif.

National recruiting analyst Greg Biggins gave Turner-Gooden a 2-3 round NFL draft projection in his scouting report:

Plays a physical game with an edge in his game. Has good cover skills and ball awareness and is always around the football. Shows good football instincts and is tough in run support. Has a strong body and has filled out and added size in his upper body over the last year. He shows both short area quickness and has good long speed as well. Heā€™s an excellent return man and should be able to return punts and kicks at the college level. Plays very hard with a consistent motor and has a strong will to win.

Turner-Gooden joins Bryan Allen and Austin Jordan to make up Texas’ talented trio of safeties in the 2022 class. He has already signed with the Horns and will enroll early for the spring semester.

Four Longhorns signees and targets at the 2022 All-American bowl

Two Texas signees and two remaining targets are in San Antonio for the 2022 All-American bowl. Here’s the team and jersey number they’ll each be sporting!

After having six signees selected to the Under Armour All-America game, Texas will have a few more participating in the All-American bowl in San Antonio this week.

Similar to the Under Armour event, the All-American bowl gives top ranked high school players a chance to team up and face off against other top talent from across the nation. Players like Vince Young, Trevor Lawrence, and Reggie Bush among many other college and NFL stars have participated in this particular event.

The Longhorns will have two signees participating this year, as both four-star defensive back Jaylon Guilbeau and four-star defensive end J’Mond Tapp will be representing Texas.

There are also a couple potential additions to the 2022 class participating in the event, who could very well boost Texas’ class that ranks as the No. 5 in the nation.

Four-star offensive lineman Earnest Greene and safety Larry Turner-Gooden will both be announcing their decision during the game and Texas is among the finalists for both players.

The game takes place on Jan. 8 and will be televised on NBC. Here are what respective team (East/West) and number each of the four players mentioned will be sporting.

Recruiting update: Class of 2022 and 2023 players to watch

Penn State recruiting: Two players on the radar for 2022 and 2023

Penn State didnā€™t end their season the way they wanted to, but the future is still bright in Happy Valley. The past few days have been a whirlwind of emotions with big coaching changes around college football.

Penn State fans can take a big sigh of relief, as James Franklin will be staying put for the next 10 years. As previously mentioned, this is a huge plus for recruiting.

Letā€™s take a look at some players on the radar for the Nittany Lions.

The first one is four-star 2022 safety in Larry Turner-Gooden.

Gooden is another two-way player that could potentially be finding his way to Happy Valley to join Cristian Driver, another fellow WR/S playing under James Franklin from the 2022 class.

Gooden recently announced his top five schools, with Penn State making the list. He will be announcing his commitment on January 8th at the All American game.

He would be a be another versatile addition to the 2022 recruiting class, which continues to get better.

The next one is a four-star defensive lineman from Bradenton, Florida in Will Norman.

Norman can excel both as an interior or on the outside. He also recently released his top 10 schools, with two Big Ten schools making the list, including Penn State.

Both of these players would be big additions to Penn Stateā€™s defense.

The secondary is potentially losing a good amount after this season, but they have a good amount of young talent coming in.

As for the defensive line, they are continuing to develop their current underclassmen, and Norman would be a versatile recruit that could provide help anywhere on the defensive line.

Penn Stateā€™s future continues to look bright, and guys like Gooden and Norman would be nice additions to a strong defense in Happy Valley.

Texas among top five schools for four-star safety Larry Turner-Gooden

Texas is riding a wave of momentum on the recruiting trail right now.

Texas needs all the help they can get in order to bounce back from this horrible season that they are having.

They have a chance to add another elite talent to the roster in California native and four-star safety, Larry Turner-Gooden. The former Arizona State commit announced via Twitter that he would be making his decision on Jan. 8 at the All-American game.

Gooden’s top five schools include Colorado, USC, Maryland, Penn State, and Texas.

The Longhorns are doing everything they can to revamp a defense that statistically ranks as one of the worst defenses in the nation. Texas is also slated to be losing three starting defensive backs next season, including both safeties in B.J. Foster and Brenden Schooler as they are both graduating and being honored at the senior day ceremony.

It is obvious that defense is a point of emphasis in recruiting, as Texas’ 2022 class is made up of 13 defensive players out of the 23 total commits.

Adding Turner to the class would be a huge get, as the combination of his athleticism and receiver instincts will only help him thrive at the next level.

Texas target, four-star ATH Larry Turner-Gooden decommits from Arizona State

Texas is back in play for four-star Larry Turner-Gooden

The Longhorns may be in play for another highly touted target that was previously off the market.

Four-star athlete Larry Turner-Gooden has decided to deccomit from Arizona State, and re-open his recruitment. Turner-Gooden is a Southern, California native, a location where Steve Sarkisian has had a lot of success recruiting. 247Sports has him ranked as a top-185 player in the nation, while also ranking him as the No. 9 athlete in the country and the No. 16 player in the state of California.

Turner-Gooden announced via Twitter on Thursday that he has decided to re-open his recruitment, and it is being reported that Texas is very much in play.

The decision comes a week after he visited Penn State during their whiteout game win over Auburn. As reported by 247Sports’ Greg Biggins, Turner-Gooden is scheduled to visit Texas in October, and other schools such as USC, LSU, and Colorado will also be factors in his recruitment.

If the Longhorns are able to gain a commitment from him, they would be getting a player who can play at either wide receiver or safety. He is projected to play safety in college, which is definitely a need for Texas after this season, as all of their starting defensive backs are seniors except for Brenden Schooler who is a graduate student.

There are no new crystal ball predictions for Turner-Gooden, which is likely indicative that he will take some time before deciding where to commit.

Notre Dame Football: Irish active with offers this weekend

The Irish continue to hit the recruiting trail hard, offering two more prospects on Saturday.

It has been a trend over the last week with the Notre Dame Football coaching staff hitting the recruiting trail hard and giving out offers. With the lack of summer camps, evaluations are based on last years film, even with some states playing high school football in the fall. On Saturday, Brian Kelly went to St. Louis and offered class of 2022 defensive back Toriano Pride.

Pride has recently seen his recruitment start to heat up, as the 5-foot-11-inch and 172-pound cornerback has added Oregon, Ohio State and Kentucky offers prior to the Irish offering yesterday. Watching his highlight reel you see a very polished defender, who has great coverage skills and isnā€™t afraid to come up and make a hit. If there is one visible area where Pride would need to improve is his hands, heā€™s active when quarterbacks decide to challenge him, but often he canā€™t quite take the ball away.

The other offers that Notre Dame gave out on Saturday was to California athlete Larry Turner-Gooden.

Turner-Gooden is viewed as a potential wide receiver or safety at the next level. He is the kind of athlete that you get on campus and worry about a position later. A 6-foot tall and 179-pounds, Turner-Gooden has impress many schools across the nation including Alabama, LSU, Clemson, LSU and USC. Personally, if I had to choose where Turner-Gooden would play, it would be on the defensive side. His anticipation skills are off the charts, he shows great hands and is a big time playmaker. You can see his exploits here.

Both the offer to Pride and Turner-Golden are very solid. Each of them possess high skill levels and that should translate to the next level. Kelly and his staff have really hit recruiting hard recently, and it has shown. The 2021 class now has 18 commits and ranks at the 11th best class in the country according to the 247Sports composite. The ā€™22 class now has three commits after Nolan Ziegler made his pledge yesterday, and ranks as the 4th best in the country.
