Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate signs NIL deal with hometown MLB team

One of the more unique NIL deals around. Congrats Carnell! #GoBucks

In the era of name, image and likeness, many collegiate players have been taking advantage to multiple opportunities that have presented themselves, and Ohio State football wide receiver, [autotag]Carnell Tate,[/autotag] is no different.

The rising-sophomore finished his high school career in Florida, but is an Illinois native. That fact he went to Marist High School, which is on the south side of Chicago, and gave the Chicago White Sox incentive to reach out to Tate about an NIL deal.

That all came to fruition as it was announced on Thursday that the Sox have partnered up with Tate, along with multiple other local collegiate stars as CHISOX Athlete Class of 2024.

The deal includes the opportunity to throw out the first pitch of a game, a photoshoot at Guaranteed Rate Field, and more.

The day after: Lasting thoughts on Ohio State football’s win over Purdue

What still sticks out in your head Buckeye fans? #GoBucks

It wasn’t the biggest win in [autotag]Ohio State footbal[/autotag]l history, but it’s win on the road against Purdue did carry some significance.

It somewhat exorcized some West Lafayette demons, kept the Buckeyes undefeated and was a great tune up ahead of their tilt at home against Penn State. Both major pregame shows will be in attendance, so you know it’s a big game.

We wait six days every week for Buckeye football to return on Saturday during the season, so there is always plenty of time to think about what transpired the previous game. Here are my day after thoughts following Ohio State football’s impressive road 41-7 win against Purdue.

Which Ohio State football players earned their Buckeye leaves against Purdue

Which Buckeyes impressed you in their win over Purdue? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] got some semblance of revenge against [autotag]Purdue[/autotag], as they went into Ross-Ade Stadium and throughly defeated the Boilermakers, 41-7.

The Buckeyes were on the game from the start, jumping out to a 20-0 halftime lead before taking the gas off the pedal midway through the third quarter. The starters did their job and paved the way for the backups to get valuable game experience.

It was a good game for Ohio State in multiple phases and like OSU does every week, more Buckeye leaves will be added to their helmets before they face Penn State next week. Find out which players earned their new decals according to our opinions below.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day updates wide receiver Emeka Egbuka’s status

It could be worse #GoBucks

Unfortunately for [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag], it’s become all too common for a star player to get injured.

Last year it was Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and although [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag] toughed it out against Maryland, he was hobbled the week prior with an ankle injury even if it didn’t look like he was.

[autotag]Emeka Egbuka[/autotag] was injured while playing against the Terrapins and on Tuesday Buckeye head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] updated his status. He told the media that Egbuka’s injury isn’t long term, but that is extremely vague. As Dave Biddle put it, if you take what Day said, it doesn’t seem like the junior will play this weekend.

There is a silver lining to potentially missing Egbuka this weekend against Purdue: Some of the younger receivers such as [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag], [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Balland[/autotag] will get extended looks.

Ohio State statistical leaders through three games

These guys in particular could be a problem Saturday.

I admit that I probably should leave something like this to the folks overs at Buckeyes Wire. Then again, that’s the whole idea behind the College Wire sites. Every site has something unique to offer, and Fighting Irish Wire is no exception. We encourage you to check out all sites to get your college sports fix, particularly at this time of year when college football is reigning supreme throughout the land.

Now that the shameless plugging is out of the way, let’s talk about why you really clicked on this link. You want to see which Ohio State players are most likely to give Notre Dame problems in one of the most anticipated college football games of the year. These are the players who are most likely to stop a resurgent start to the season for the Irish in its tracks. You probably will see a few of them in the NFL soon.

If you aren’t familiar with these Buckeyes yet, get yourself familiar with them right now:

ESPN picks Ohio State freshman as one of the best newcomers in 2023

The expectations are through the roof for this Buckeye freshman #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] has the deepest wide receiver room in the country.

It’s not easy for a freshman to crack the rotation, especially when you have two first-round NFL draft picks (Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka) and a former No. 1 ranked wide receiver out of high school (Julian Fleming) you are competing against for playing time.

Tom VanHaaren of ESPN doesn’t think it should be much of an issue for true freshman [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag]. He placed the former five-star prospect 42nd out of 50 top newcomers to college football.

Tate lost his mother last month, but the expectations are still the same — play early. VanHaaren notes that “Tate might be too good to keep off the field.”

It’s a bit interesting ESPN has him as one of its best, especially considering that the “worldwide leader” ranked him as its No. 242 overall recruit in the 2023 recruiting class. If the situation works out the way VanHaaren thinks it will, he will have been vastly underrated by their experts.

Ohio State football: Five players on offense poised for a breakout in 2023

Who do you think breaks out on the national scene? #GoBucks

With fall camp starting for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] Thursday, one can only dream of what to expect during the season.

Like every year in college football, there is plenty of turnover, but one thing we know about the Buckeyes, they don’t rebuild, they reload. Multiple stars from the 2022 team have gone on to the NFL, but Ohio State isn’t short of talented players waiting in the wings.

This season, there are more than a few non-returning starting spots open, so there will be new names we’ll see on Saturdays making an impact. Here are five Buckeyes that I believe will have breakout seasons and become household names on the offensive side of the ball.

Don’t worry, we’ll hit the defense next.

Ohio State freshman Carnell Tate shares gratitude after tragic loss of mother

Condolences and words of comfort help in the grieving process.

Recently, Ohio State freshman wide receiver, Carnell Tate, lost his mother unexpectedly when she was the victim of a drive-by shooting. The incident was confirmed by WGN in Chicago and multiple other outlets.

Since that fateful day on July 16, things have been relatively quiet as the Chicago Police search for the perpetrator. Police shared that witnesses claimed shots were fired into a crowd of people leaving an event. No arrests have been made as of yet as the investigation continues.

There has been a great outpouring of support for the OSU freshman, even coming from rival fans. Yesterday, Tate posted a message of thanks to everyone who has reached out with their love and support via his X, formerly known as Twitter account.

At the Big Ten media days last week, Ryan Day offered his thoughts on the tragedy.

“He and his mom were very closte,” Day said. “When you lose somebody close to you like that, it just takes the rug out from underneath you, and I know that happened to Carnell. He does have a team that’s here to support. We’ve all kind of surrounded him and tried to help them the best we can. He’s a pretty private person as well. We’ve had guys who have gone through similar situations, and you have to go through a process of grieving. We’ve talked about that. That’s not easy, but I think football has allowed him a distraction to kind of get his mind off of it when he’s not in his room or back in Chicago.”

Ashley Griggs was just 41 years old.

Ohio State freshman Carnell Tate loses mother in senseless act of violence

A sad day for the Ohio State football family.

In sad news, it was reported that freshman wide receiver, Carnell Tate, lost his mother last night. She was the victim of an apparent drive-by shooting. The incident was been confirmed by WGN in Chicago.

While details have not been released, Tate’s mother, Ashley Griggs, lived in Chicago where the tragedy occurred.

By all accounts, Griggs was heavily involved in her son’s recruitment process and was proud of him beyond measure. A simple look at her Twitter page reveals posts and retweets about Carnell’s accomplishments and the many wonderful things being written about her son.

Tate has been showing out in practice since arriving on campus in January. He became the earliest freshman to ever lose his black stripe and put on a show in the annual spring Scarlet and Gray game.

All of that should and will be put aside as the young man grieves the loss of his mother. Thoughts and prayers are pouring in from all across social media as people are hearing the news. Even those from the other side of rivalries are putting the game on standby understanding some things are just bigger than football.

Our hearts are heavy and all of Buckeye Nation mourns with you.

Five-star 2024 Missouri wide receiver visiting Notre Dame today

He’s on campus now

The Irish missed out on one five-star receiver earlier this week when Florida’s [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag] committed to Ohio State. That has not stopped the Marcus Freeman recruiting train, as today he turned his focus on another five-star wide out, Ryan Wingo.

The six-foot-two-inch and 198-pound receiver from the 2024 recruiting class is viewed as one of the best in the country. Already holding offers from LSU, Florida, Oregon, Texas and plenty of others, Wingo is currently in South Bend visiting with Freeman and the offensive staff. Football runs in the Wingo family, as his brother was a running back for Arkansas from 2009-2012.

The Irish currently have three commits in the 2024 cycle which include quarterback [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag], and defensive linemen [autotag]Brandon Davis-Swain[/autotag] and [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag].
