The Fran Brown Era at Syracuse could see early success

With Kyle McCord’s skill and Coach Fran Brown’s vision, Syracuse football is set for a landmark season, driven by a favorable schedule and a united goal to reshape their legacy.

Syracuse football could be on the brink of a seismic shift. Taking the reins for the Orange this season is none other than Kyle McCord, the former commander of the Ohio State offense. This transfer was a headline-grabber and a shock to many. McCord’s leap to Syracuse, mixed with a schedule that seems almost handpicked for success, tees up the Orange for what could be a banner year.

A gem from the 247Sports Composite, McCord’s five-star status isn’t just for show. His pivot to Syracuse, sealed during an official campus visit, cranks up the Orange’s offensive dial. Steering the Buckeyes to an 11-1 finish last season, McCord’s stats speak volumes: 3,170 yards, 24 TDs, and a 65.8% completion rate. Numbers like these placed him in the conversation for the top of the FBS quarterback heap.

At the helm for Syracuse is Fran Brown, the newly minted head coach. Brown’s not just about X’s and O’s; his recruiting prowess and deep Northeast roots are part of his DNA.

Brown’s coaching odyssey began at Paul VI Catholic High School. He swiftly moved through the ranks at Temple, where he first showcased his knack for transforming defensive backfields and his magnetic pull in recruiting circles.

His journey with Matt Rhule from Temple to Baylor only amplified his reputation as a top-tier recruiter and a defensive strategist. Returning to Temple, this time with added responsibilities as co-defensive coordinator, Brown further cemented his status in the coaching fraternity, even as head coaching opportunities teasingly danced around the edges.

During his tenure with Greg Schiano at Rutgers, Fran Brown experienced a transformative leap forward, setting the stage for his subsequent ascent into the national spotlight at Georgia. In this high-profile role, Brown’s recruiting skills and strategic coaching brilliance reached their zenith, ultimately contributing to a resounding National Championship triumph. This period of his career reached a pinnacle with Brown being honored as the nation’s premier recruiter by 247Sports, a testament to his profound impact on the field.

Brown is considered by many as one of the nation’s premier recruiters, possessing a unique talent for forging authentic connections with high school athletes and their families.

Now, as Syracuse’s 31st head coach, Brown brings more than just a playbook and recruiting strategies. He carries a legacy of soundness, a relentless pursuit of excellence, and a deep-rooted connection to the Northeast’s football fabric.

With the absence of conference heavyweights like North Carolina, Florida State, Clemson, and Louisville from the schedule, this is a chance for Syracuse and their first-year head coach to sharpen their game without the shadow of the conference giants looming over them. Coupled with portal newcomers like McCord, Edge Fadil Diggs, and Jackson Meeks at wide receiver, this could give the Orange early success.

Going into the season with McCord’s arm, Brown’s vision, and a schedule that might as well be a golden ticket, Syracuse and Fran Brown are not just dreaming of greatness in his first year; they’re on the cusp of it and reaching for it. The stage is set, the players are ready, and the Syracuse faithful are buzzing. As Coach Brown put it during his introduction as the Orange’s head coach, “I am competitive. I need to win at everything. You can’t chew gum faster than me. I’m going to win at everything, and we’re about to go shock the country.”

Ohio State’s rival quarterback, Michigan’s JJ McCarthy makes NFL decision

Is this what you expected? #GoBucks

It will alway be remembered that Ohio State football head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] chose [autotag]Kyle McCord[/autotag] over [autotag]JJ McCarthy[/autotag], for obvious reasons.

McCarthy ultimately chose to attend rival Michigan, and took it personal when he played the school that passed him up during his recruitment. He was on the sidelines for three victories over the Buckeyes, and this past season led the Wolverines to a College Football Playoff national championship.

A big decision loomed in front of him, as he still had one year of eligibility remaining, but has chosen to forgo that season and enter the NFL draft. Many Buckeyes would liked to have one more shot at knocking McCarthy down, but that will now have to be at the next level.

Although he isn’t viewed as one of the top quarterback prospects in this coming draft, he will still be selected after a very impressive collegiate career.

Former transfer portal target signs with Syracuse

A former Nebraska target in the transfer portal has committed to play out east in 2024.

A former Nebraska target in the transfer portal has committed to play out east in 2024. Quarterback Kyle McCord has committed to play for the Syracuse Orange next season.

In 12 games last season, McCord led Ohio State to an 11-1 record. He threw for 3,170 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

McCord officially entered the transfer portal on December 4 after Buckeye’s head coach Ryan Day would not commit to his quarterback as the starter in the Cotton Bowl.

The former five-star recruit had visited Lincoln and shown an interest in the Cornhuskers. It’s unknown why the two sides ultimately decided to part ways, but one wonders if the recruitment of Dylan Raiola played a factor.

Syracuse will now begin the 2024 season with a new starting quarterback and head coach. Former Georgia assistant Fran Brown will be entering his first season on the job.

Former Ohio State starting quarterback transfer heading to Syracuse

Syracuse has landed a big name in the transfer portal, filling their need at quarterback.

There have been a lot of changes to the Syracuse football program of late, with another one coming Sunday morning.

According to multiple reports, former Ohio State starting quarterback Kyle McCord is transferring to play at Syracuse. McCord was one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal and is a huge pickup for the Orange who are losing longtime starter Garrett Shrader.

In his junior season with the Buckeyes, McCord threw for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. Syracuse’s new head coach Fran Brown will head into his first season at the helm with a quarterback who should be one of the top players at his position in the ACC.

Kyle McCord reportedly not headed to Nebraska

In case you missed it, McCord is still keeping options open. #GoBucks

Just a few days ago, former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord was thought to be headed to Nebraska. However, according to multiple reports, that has all changed and now McCord is considering other options.

You never know what the fit is with a kid and his family when he decides to transfer and what makes or breaks a decision, but soon after news broke about McCord visiting Lincoln, further news surfaced that former OSU commit and 5-star quarterback Dylan Raiola was also considering the Cornhuskers after being a Georgia commit for a long period.

Who knows if that played into the decision, but you can bet that McCord would not be looking to transfer to a place just to sit insert himself into a heated battle once again, especially after leaving the Buckeyes presumably because the competition would be an open one heading into the Cotton Bowl and into next season.

As to where McCord might be looking at now? It’s anyone’s guess, but there have been rumblings to keep an eye on Syracuse.

Of course we’ll continue to wish the former Ohio State signal-caller well, and we’ll stay on top of the news of what college McCord decides to call home going forward.

Kyle McCord not transferring to Nebraska opens door for Georgia QB commit

Kyle McCord not transferring to Nebraska opens door for Georgia QB commit

There’s a growing belief Georgia will lose the commitment from five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 prospect in the 2024 class.

Earlier this week, 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong projected Raiola to flip to Nebraska. Raiola’s father, Dominic Raiola, played center for the Cornhuskers, while his uncle, Donovan Raiola, serves as offensive line coach in Lincoln.

A report on Wednesday by On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos has made that prediction more believable.

Nakos reported Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord is not transferring to Nebraska as previously expected, opening the door wider for Raiola to take the reins immediately if a flip does occur.

Raiola transferred to Buford High School in Georgia this fall and led the Wolves to an 11-2 record.

Raiola is reportedly visiting Nebraska this week.

The good news for Georgia is if Raiola decommits, the Bulldogs still have a top-10 passer coming to Athens in the 2024 class, four-star Ryan Puglisi.

Puglisi (Avon, Connecticut) is the No. 10 quarterback and the No. 134 player overall in the class, per 247Sports.

This situation puts even more weight on junior quarterback Carson Beck, who has not yet announced his decision on turning pro or staying with the Bulldogs for another season.

Iowa rival hosting All-Big Ten quarterback Kyle McCord on visit

Matt Rhule is looking to address a massive need at Nebraska as the Cornhuskers reportedly welcome in former Ohio State QB Kyle McCord.

A major Big Ten rival of the Iowa Hawkeyes is looking to make a massive improvement through the NCAA transfer portal this offseason. Plagued by ineffective play at the quarterback position all year, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are heavily courting former Ohio State passer Kyle McCord.

According to sources of 247Sports, the Cornhuskers will be hosting McCord on a visit on Monday with the hopes of finding a true star passer for coach Matt Rhule.

McCord shocked some when he was one of the first to enter his name into the transfer portal this offseason. A third-team All-Big Ten member by both the coaches and media, the Philadelphia, Pa., native started all 12 games for the Buckeyes this season. McCord was second in the Big Ten in both passing yards (3,170) and touchdowns (24) this past season in his first year as a starter.

While his stats weren’t bad, many weren’t entirely impressed with his performances at the helm for Ohio State. All season, the Buckeyes seemed to slightly underperform given their talent on offense. Plus, Ohio State was once again unable to solve Michigan in The Game.

While maybe not the most dynamic quarterback in the nation, McCord would appear to be a massive upgrade for Rhule’s squad. The lack of a passer really held the Cornhuskers back in his first year at the helm.

No quarterback on Nebraska’s roster eclipsed 1,000 passing yards or completed 60% of their passes. Georgia Tech transfer Jeff Sims was a massive bust, looking completely lost right away. He quickly lost his starting position and is now looking for another job in the transfer portal.

Kyle McCord may be a part of a package deal as well, with reports of former Buckeyes wide receiver Julian Fleming visiting in Lincoln as well. Fleming is a former five-star recruit and was 247Sports’ top wide receiver in the 2020 recruiting class. A new passer and pass catcher may be just what the doctor ordered in Lincoln.

REPORT: Nebraska to host pair of Ohio State transfers this week

Nebraska will be hosting a pair of Ohio State transfers this week

Transfer portal season is about to heat up for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

According to a report from Zack Carpenter of Inside Nebraska of the Rivals network, the Huskers will host Ohio State transfer quarterback Kyle McCord and wide receiver Julian Fleming on visits this upcoming week.

McCord’s name is not new this portal season for the Huskers. It was reported last week. The two sides have been reportedly in contact since the portal opened on Monday, and the Huskers officially extended an offer to the New Jersey native recently. The Huskers are considered the general favorite to land the former Ohio State quarterback.

The former highly-touted prospect out of St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, just finished his first season as Ohio State’s starting quarterback. In 12 games, McCord completed 65.8% of his passing attempts for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns to eight interceptions. For his career, he has posted a 66.5% completion percentage for 3,776 yards, 27 touchdowns, and eight interceptions,

Fleming’s name has been discussed in rumors, but Sunday’s report from Inside Nebraska is the first time the former five-star’s name has been concretely connected to the Huskers. Also involved with Fleming is Penn State, located less than two hours from Fleming’s hometown in Pennsylvania.

Fleming battled some injuries at Ohio State early in his career but has played in 23 games over the last two seasons. Over four years with Ohio State, Fleming recorded 79 receptions for 963 yards and seven touchdowns.

A pair of former 5-star Ohio State transfers to visit Nebraska

This is an interesting development

The transfer portal has changed the collegiate game, and Ohio State football, like many others, have seen contributors enter and look for new destinations.

Two former 5-star Buckeye recruits, quarterback [autotag]Kyle McCord,[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Julian Fleming,[/autotag] could potentially continue to be teammates in a different shade of red.

According to a report by On3’s Pete Nakos, the pair are both visiting Nebraska this weekend. The two connected 26 times for 270 yards this past season and clearly have some familiarity with each other.

Both were some of the best prospects coming out of high school — McCord ranked as the No. 28 overall prospect in the 2021 class — while Fleming was the No. 3 overall, both according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

As of this post, neither have made their intentions known, but it’s clear there is interesting in playing for the Cornhuskers.

A closer look at the Huskers’ five-star wide receiver target

Social media reports have placed the Huskers in the hunt for a former Ohio State wide receiver.

Social media reports have placed Nebraska in the hunt for a former Ohio State wide receiver. Former five-star prospect Julian Fleming entered the transfer portal this month.

Flemming was the top wide receiver in the class of 2020 but never cracked the starting lineup during his four years in Columbus. He totaled 79 receptions for 963 yards and seven touchdowns in 38 career games.

In 12 games this season, he had 270 yards on 26 receptions. The social media reports stated Fleming may be a package deal with former Buckeye quarterback Kyle McCord.

McCord is one of several quarterbacks Nebraska is pursuing in the transfer portal. You can find a photo gallery of Julian Fleming’s Ohio State career below.
