Ohio State loses RB to the NFL

Ohio State had one RB enter the 2024 NFL draft

Update: TreVeyon Henderson has not made a decision regarding his future.

Buckeyes teammate Miyan Williams did announce earlier this week that he is forgoing his remaining eligibility and will enter the 2024 NFL draft. Williams projects as a Day 3 pick or priority free agent at this point.

Ohio State football running back to enter the NFL draft

Thank you Chop!

In the midst of Ohio State football seeing multiple players enter the transfer portal on Monday, the Buckeyes will lose one of their running back contributors for a different reason.

Junior [autotag]Miyan Williams,[/autotag] has declared for the NFL draft, effectively ending his Ohio State career without playing in the Cotton Bowl. Over the last four seasons, the Ohio native rushed 258 times for 1,554 yards, 20 rushing scores, while adding 143 receiving yards.

Williams had issues with injuries during his time in Columbus, and as a running back, moving on to the NFL makes plenty of sense. The shelf life for the position is extremely short and given his inability to stay healthy, this wasn’t a surprising move.

We wish Miyan the best in the NFL, and hope to see plenty of success at the next level.

Ohio State football loses running back Miyan Williams for remainder of season

Not great news for Ohio State #GoBucks

This was not the news any [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] fan wanted to hear: Running back [autotag]Miyan Williams[/autotag] is out for the rest of the season due to an injury.

The junior back has been used sparingly this season, rushing for 158 yards and 3 touchdowns on 49 carries. He added 4 catches for 42 yards. The Buckeyes lose a depth piece behind TreVeyon Henderson, who has battled injuries throughout his career.

Chip Trayanum has emerged as the Henderson’s backup, but he also has battled some health issues this season. The question now is how much run will Dallan Hayden get now that Williams has been shut down for the year.

The good news is there is depth at running back, but losing a quality contributor will certainly hurt Ohio State.

Ohio State star out for the season with injury

Big loss for the Buckeyes.

The good news for Ohio State is running back TreVeyon Henderson returned from injury and looked better than ever in Week 9 against Wisconsin.

The bad news? His primary mate in the backfield appears to be moving in the opposite direction.

Michigan football will have to worry about Henderson and converted linebacker Chip Trayanum on Nov. 25, but will no longer have to be concerned with the face of the backfield the past two seasons, apparently. On Tuesday, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day shared that senior Miyan Williams will be out for the remainder of the 2023 season due to an injury.

In 2022, Williams had 8 carries for 34 yards against the Wolverines and 7 carries for 24 yards in 2021. Last year, Henderson was unavailable due to injury, so the Buckeyes had to rely on Williams and Trayanum.

It appeared OSU was looking to redshirt Dallan Hayden, who came on strong late last year, but that may not be possible any longer.

Ohio State football issues availability report for Wisconsin game, key players out or questionable

Ohio State football issues availability report for Wisconsin game, key players out or questionable #GoBucks

The fine folks with the Ohio State Football team have issued the availability report for the game against the Wisconsin Badgers, and some familiar faces will be returning to the field this week. The Buckeyes have been missing Emeka Egbuka and TreVeyon Henderson on offense, and Denzel Burke on the defensive side.

But with that said, you can’t have good news without bad news, as it appears Miyan Williams has found his way back on the injury report after having a solid performance against the Penn State Nittany Lions last week. We also saw backup and short-yardage specialist, Devin Brown, go down last week and it appears he will be out this week due to that injury. The following is the breakdown provided by the Ohio State Department of Athletics.

UNAVAILABLE

  • WR Nolan Baudo
  • QB Devin Brown
  • CB Jyaire Brown
  • SAF Ja’Had Carter
  • WR Kyion Grayes
  • RB Miyan Williams

All in all, that’s not a bad availability report for this point in the season. The Buckeyes might need it too with the challenge of winning one in Camp Randall at night.

Which Ohio State football players earned their Buckeye leaves against Penn State?

Which Buckeyes earned their helmet decals against Penn State?

For 60 minutes on Saturday, Ohio State football was in a battle with visiting Penn State, and earned a gritty, hard fought 20-12 victory in front of a raucous home crowd.

With another win in the book, the Buckeyes seventh of the season, you will see plenty more Buckeye leaf decals on players helmets next week as they visit Wisconsin. (We’re getting to the point of the year where some players are almost full!)

Some of those players get them for team achievements, but these players highlighted below earned them for their individual play in our own personal grading scale. Check out who we thought played the best football for Ohio State on Saturday and deserves new helmet decals.

Social media reacts to Ohio State running back Miyan Williams’ touchdown vs. Penn State

Some of the best social media reactions to Miyan Williams finding the end zone against Penn State #GoBucks

Ohio State is in the midst of a battle with Penn State and took a 10-3 lead in the first half on a Miyan Williams touchdown run. As many expected, it has been a defensive slugfest in the first half with two of the nation’s best defenses living up to that billing so far.

The Buckeyes offense has struggled to find a groove early but leaned on the run game, and a third down and 10 completion to Marvin Harrison Jr. to move the ball on this drive which ended in Miyan Williams punching it in on a two yard touchdown run.

Ohio State narrowly escaped disaster on the drive as well as a scoop and score from Penn State was negated by a holding penalty in the secondary.  What did X, formerly known as Twitter, think about it?

We have the some of the best reactions to share.

Ohio State scores after penalty wipes out Penn State defensive TD

Ohio State caught a break and turned it into a TD against Penn State

If you were looking for a play that could be the one to have impacted the clash of Big Ten undefeated schools in Penn State and Ohio State, it might have happened in the second quarter on Saturday.

Buckeyes QB Kyle McCord fumbled and Curtis Jacobs scooped the football and returned it 59 yards for an apparent touchdown.

However, a penalty flag had been thrown for a hold on Marvin Harrison Jr.

Given a second chance, and aided by another penalty, also on Kalen King, Ohio State scored on a Miyan Williams 2-yard run and after the PAT it had a 10-3 lead.

Ohio State football issues availability report for Purdue game, two key players out

Ohio State football issues availability report for Purdue Boilermakers #GoBucks

The fine folks with the Ohio State Football team have issued the availability report for the game against the Purdue Boilermakers. We were already aware of of star receiver, Emeka Egbuka not making the trip, but a surprising name also listed as out is Miyan Williams.

It’s a shame Williams is out, because he was just getting healthy from an injury suffered earlier this season, but this injury is especially alarming considering TreVeyon Henderson is also listed on the injury report as questionable. Ryan Day alluded to Henderson being back for this one, but we’ll have to see. With two running backs out, the Buckeyes will lean on Chip Trayanum and maybe we will get an appearance of Dallan Hayden.

QUESTIONABLE

  • RB TreVeyon Henderson
  • DT Jaden McKenzie

OUT

  • WR Nolan Baudo
  • RB Timothy Caffey
  • WR Emeka Egbuka
  • WR Kiyon Grayes
  • TE Zak Herbstreit
  • TE Joe Royer
  • DT Will Smith Jr.
  • WR Reis Stocksdale
  • SAF Kourt Williams II
  • RB Miyan Williams

Lions full 2024 NFL mock draft: The first set of projections

The first edition of the Lions’ 2024 mock draft projections

With four games in the books and a better idea of both needs and projected draft order, it’s time for the first edition of the Lions Wire’s 2024 mock draft.

Detroit is 3-1 and currently holds the No. 25 overall pick in the first round, based on the NFL standings after Week 4. This projection covers all the rounds. Obviously, it’s still early in the draft process, making this more about ideas and prospects than predictions. The players here are ballparked in terms of where they appear to project (as of October 5th) in the 2024 NFL draft, which will be held in Detroit in April.

The first two rounds are taken directly from my first full NFL mock draft for 2024 over at Draft Wire. This should help sort out some questions about player availability for those picks.
