Jerry Jones to face sexual assault lawsuit in formerly dismissed case

Jones is accused of forcibly kissing and groping a woman at AT&T Stadium in 2018; the revived case is could to go trial. | From @ToddBrock24f7

A 2020 lawsuit against Jerry Jones that had previously been dismissed has been given new life, and it’s likely to bring the Cowboys owner to trial to face troubling new accusations of sexual assault.

The case in question was first dismissed by a Dallas County district court in February 2022. But according to Lana Ferguson of the Dallas Morning News, a Texas appellate court has revived the case and ruled that it should proceed.

At the center of the case is an encounter that allegedly took place at AT&T Stadium on Sept. 16, 2018, the same date as a Cowboys’ 20-13 Week 2 win over the New York Giants in a Sunday night matchup. A woman claims Jones, who would have been 75 years old at the time, “kissed her on the mouth and forcibly grabbed her without her consent.”

Several prominent personalities well-known to Cowboys fans are named elsewhere as possible witnesses.

The Dallas Cowboys Football Club is also a defendant in the lawsuit, which claims the team “knew or should have known of Jones’s misconduct.” The National Football League was listed in the original lawsuit but is not named in the new appeal.

The lawsuit was dismissed last year after the judge claimed the woman- identified only as “Jane Doe” in the original case paperwork- failed to provide “fully identifying information” about herself and a more specific location for the incident. Those details, Jones’s legal team argued, were needed in order to make the lawsuit valid.

The state appellate court has found that the woman, in fact, “made a good faith effort to amend her pleadings” by providing that information upon request. They reversed the earlier dismissal, stating that the trial court “abused its discretion in dismissing” the claims.

In the revised complaint, the woman (whose identity is known to Jones’s attorneys) is now listed by the initials “J.G.” and the incident in question is described as having taken place inside the stadium’s Tom Landry Room, a luxurious suite where gameday meet-and-greet events are often held.

Per League of Justice‘s Amy Dash, J.G. accuses Jones of “sticking his tongue in her mouth and forcibly grabbing and groping her.” The suit claims the room was full of witnesses; J.G. believes those who were present include former head coach Jason Garrett, running back Ezekiel Elliott, offensive lineman Tyron Smith, and ex-defensive end Tyrone Crawford.

Current Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence and Jones’s wife Eugenia are allegedly listed as also being present in the room when the assault occurred.

The incident caused J.G. “severe injuries,” “emotional distress,” “psychological pain and suffering,” and medical expenses, according to the suit.

“Plaintiff has nightmares about what Jerry Jones did to her,” read the original complaint. “She has trouble focusing and completing day to day tasks at work and at home. Plaintiff gets nervous around men and has trouble being alone with men. Plaintiff cries often because of what Defendant Jerry Jones did to her and does not want any other woman to experience such assaults.”

J.G. is reportedly seeking monetary damages of over one million dollars and wants a jury trial to decide the matter.

“Jerry Jones has a sleazy history of allegedly sexually assaulting and assaulting females, and it appears that both the Cowboys and NFL have turned a blind eye to said illegal behavior over the years,” her original complaint continues.

A response from Jones called the allegations “malicious and hurtful.”

The Cowboys owner is currently in another legal battle, having been ordered to take a paternity test to determine if he is the biological father of a Texas woman named Alexandra Davis, who sued him last year.

The Davis case is ongoing.

The J.G. case could go to trial after all, now that last year’s dismissal has been reversed.

“We always knew we were going to win because the law was on our side,” said Thomas Daniel Bowers, the attorney for Jones’s latest accuser. “A victim’s finally going to get her day in court, and that’s very important.”

Bowers also represented Jana Weckerly, who accused Jones of sexual assault in 2009. Weckerly said Jones threatened her and tried to make hush-money payments to keep her quiet about that well-publicized incident, which included racy photos leaked on the internet. Jones’s attorneys called those allegations a “shakedown by a lawyer who is a solo practitioner just trying to make a name for himself.”

The Weckerly case was ultimately settled.

Nets’ Jacque Vaughn says Nets were ‘locked in’ despite losing to Bucks

Jacque Vaughn gave the Nets credit for following the game plan to begin the game even though they did not end the game that way.

Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn has had to adapt how his creates his gameplan in the wake of how much the team has changed since the trade deadline. The team that he leads now is younger and has more energy, but is less experienced than the veteran teams that were led by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

In Tuesday’s 118-104 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, that inexperience showed up in the second half. Despite a first half in which Brooklyn played exceptional basketball en route to building a 15-point lead on the Bucks, the Nets’ second half was the opposite. Part of the reason for the shift in performance was because Brooklyn being unable to shoot the ball well in the second half combined with the fact that they were unable to stop the Bucks at any point.

After shooting 53% from the field in the first half, Brooklyn shot 36% in the second half and that led to Milwaukee winning the final 24 minutes 66-42. The Nets had issues with turning the ball over too as they had 17 turnovers that led to 22 points for the Bucks. Vaughn reacted postgame to his team’s poor performance in the second half while saying that his players did what they were supposed to do in the beginning:

“I love how our group was on the bench. First of all, the communication, I think we were locked into the game plan. Our approach at the beginning of the game was really good, gave ourselves a chance at halftime. I think overall, it’s a message for us to be able to to sustain this thing and be able to do it in the third quarter and fourth quarter against a elite team. When we’re not shooting well, I think we went 4-for-19, there was a stretch there from three. So, the difference was they (the Bucks) got to the rim. And, we shot some mid range (shots) at that time. So, that conversion rate is definitely in their favor.”

Deommodore Lenoir has emerged as key piece of 49ers secondary

Deommodore Lenoir’s breakout 2022 campaign should make the #49ers’ offseason easier.

One of the 49ers’ wins this year came in the secondary with the elevated play of second-year CB Deommodore Lenoir.

It looked after Lenoir’s rookie year like the 2021 fifth-round pick from Oregon might struggle to lock down a spot in San Francisco’s secondary. He earned time early in the year after an injury to CB Jason Verrett, but he eventually lost that job to fellow rookie Ambry Thomas. This year he was thrust into action on the outside again after an injury to Emmanuel Moseley, and this time he was equal to the task.

Lenoir played in the slot and outside, played in 17 games, started 13 of them, and started all three playoff games. He posted one interception, five pass breakups, and allowed only one touchdown while allowing an 84.8 passer rating when targeted. In the postseason he allowed passer ratings of 20.8, 39.3 and 39.6 according to Pro Football Focus. He also tallied a pair of INTs in the playoffs.

General manager John Lynch on Tuesday at the NFL combine gushed about Lenoir’s performance in the 2023 season.

“Yeah, one of my favorite things when I was a player and now as a general manager is to watch players have breakthroughs,” Lynch said. “I think this was a breakthrough year for Deommodore. We believed in him as a player coming in. It’s a hard position to play. It’s a hard position to get thrown into a fire. The coolest thing about him, he kind of broke through that and it wasn’t easy. There’s another corner on the other side in Mooney (CB Charvarius) Ward that people really respect, so they were going to go at the other guy. He withstood some adversity where people were coming after him and the only way to put out that fire is to start making plays. And by the end, I wasn’t so sure in some cases that they were throwing it at Mooney, so I think that speaks a lot about the fortitude both mentally and physically of Deommodore. The coolest thing is he’s got some flex where he can play outside and inside, so he gives us a lot of versatility there. We’re really proud of the young man. He’s going to be a big part of us moving forward.”

Lenoir’s breakout 2022 campaign made things much easier for the 49ers this offseason. Had he struggled again, they may be looking for multiple starting-caliber cornerbacks. Instead, his versatility to play either inside or outside gives the team some flexibility in what kind of CB they’re looking for.

Not everything went right for San Francisco this season, but Lenoir’s performance in 2022 could help more things go right in 2023.

Latest Mel Kiper NFL mock draft has three Ohio State players in first round

Do you think Kiper is selling any of the OSU players short with this NFL mock draft? #GoBucks

ESPN’s long-time NFL draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. is at it again.

During this time of year, there’s a good chance that Kiper has his head down and in a bunker, only to come out for meals and haircuts as he sifts through all the possibilities of the upcoming NFL draft. He’s been at it for a long time and is still one of the most well-respected among all the noise and multiple NFL mock drafts out there.

And … if we’re talking about an NFL draft, then we have to be discussing some Ohio State football players hearing their names called on day one. It’s just the way the American football universe is balanced.

Kiper has now released a few iterations of his first-round NFL mock draft for 2023, and he just dropped a new one (subscription required). In it, he has three Buckeyes landing to teams on the first day but has moved things around from his last effort.

Here is where Kiper projects each Ohio State player to go in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft once the curtain is lifted in Kansas City next month.

Cowboys News: Updates on Tyron, Pollard, Steele; 2 mocks get wacky

Stephen Jones says several key Cowboys are on track for 2023; exploring superstar extensions, and which Cowboy is it just not working with? | From @ToddBrock24f7

More updates from Stephen Jones in Indianapolis on Tuesday. The Cowboys EVP had encouraging news for several star players, though Dallas fans have seen lately that predicting injury-recovery timetables is less than an exact science. Jones talked about Tyron Smith’s status and contract, and he revealed that the club is thinking about extensions for two fourth-year playmakers.

Elsewhere, we’re looking at the unique position that Terence Steele is in and what the Cowboys might do about that, we’re tipping our hat to the Cowboys’ strength and conditioning staff for being a one-of-one within the NFL, and we’re getting brutally honest about which Cowboy it’s simply not working out with. All that, plus a host of mock drafts, some with strange results: why it seems like Mel Kiper Jr. is trolling America’s Team… and who would Dallas end up with if free agency worked like a draft? Cowboys fans may not like this any better than what they already have. That’s up in New sand Notes.
