Browns GM Andrew Berry dubbed NFL’s Leonardo DiCaprio because of draft trend

Andrew Berry got comped to who?

Sumer Sports, a football analytics company, released a trend report showcasing how teams and general managers prioritize age during the NFL draft. Andrew Berry and the Cleveland Browns have prioritized younger prospects. Berry inherited the philosophy from Sashi Brown during his tenure as general manager. The “age guardrails,” as they’re commonly called by fans, have kept the Browns in great shape.

Franchise cornerstones David Njoku and Myles Garrett will be 28 years old during the season. The Browns are still prioritizing younger players. The Browns traded for Jerry Jeudy this offseason before negotiating a three-year extension with the soon-to-be 25-year-old wide receiver.

Selecting young players will be a challenge in next week’s draft — the class’s average age is far older than previous classes. This is due to a combination of NIL rules, the transfer portal and players getting an extra year of eligibility because of COVID-19. The average age of the class is well over 23 years old. However, 28 of Berry’s 31 draft picks have been younger than 22.

Thankfully, it’s doubtful that there will be an older draft class in the future. It will be interesting to watch Berry manage the draft next week. The Browns have six selections.

Browns owners say extensions for Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry are coming

Well deserved extensions are coming soon

The NFL Owners’ meetings are underway in Orlando, Florida, and Cleveland Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam have revealed what some of us have been expecting for a while now. According to the Haslams, Cleveland will soon be extending head coach Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry.

Since Stefanski has been in charge for the past four seasons, the team has had 37 wins and two playoff appearances. By comparison, the Browns had 14 wins in the previous four seasons before he took over. The job he did this past season in the face of all the injuries and adversity earned the extension alone.

Andrew Berry has managed the salary cap beautifully since taking over and built a roster good enough to win 11 games with over 25 percent of the salary cap on injured reserve. He has his misses just the same as any general manager, but the overall roster of the Browns is in a great place to win consistently for years to come.

Report: Browns expected to extend contracts of Andrew Berry, Kevin Stefanski

They’ll be here for the forseeable future.

The Cleveland Browns are expected to extend the contracts of both general manager Andrew Berry and NFL Coach of the Year and head coach Kevin Stefanski after an improbable 11-win season.

ESPN’s Scott Fowler has reported that he has heard a ton of buzz about the impending contract extensions for Berry and Stefanski:

“Expect contract extensions to occur for Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry sometime this offseason. Both have matching five-year deals that are set to expire after the 2024 season. They performed well this past year to execute a playoff push, and all signs point to them being in Cleveland for the foreseeable future.”

Adding to that noise, Cleveland dot com’s Mary Kay Cabot has added:

“It’s a testament to Berry and Stefanski to make the playoffs in an injury-ravaged season like this. Stefanski has overhauled the defensive and offensive staffs after his first four seasons, but it’s all an effort to get the Browns to the next level, which is the Super Bowl. In terms of the extensions, it’s a matter of when, not if. I think it will be sooner than later, but they’re coming.”

The Browns have not had continuity since they returned to the league in 1999. Now entering year-five, and looking like they’ll be around for the foreseeable future, the Browns now have that in Stefanski and Berry.

2024 NFL draft: Updated Cleveland Browns 7-round mock draft

2024 NFL draft: Updated Cleveland Browns 7-round mock draft ahead of Senior Bowl week

The Cleveland Browns had a very interesting 2023 campaign. Despite rampant injuries across the offense, Kevin Stefanski’s team finished an impressive 11-6 and earned the top wild card berth in the AFC.

The playoff run ended quickly with a blowout loss in Houston, one that shone the spotlight on some of the Browns’ biggest offseason needs. GM Andrew Berry won’t get to address any of those needs until the second round of the 2024 NFL draft since the Browns already traded away their first-round pick to Houston as part of the Deshaun Watson deal. Cleveland has just two selections in the first four rounds.

Where might Berry and the Browns look in the draft? Here’s one early pathway they can explore.

Browns: 6 takeaways from GM Andrew Berry’s end of season presser

General manager Andrew Berry gave his end of season presser. Here are the biggest takeaways…

From Joe Flacco to Deshaun Watson, general manager Andrew Berry gave his offseason Cleveland Browns primer today.

As the Browns saw their season come to an end, they were able to hang their hat on an 11-win season despite a flurry of injuries that landed 26 percent of their salary on Injured Reserve. In this press conference, Berry hit on a couple of those injured players in Watson and running back Nick Chubb.

He also discussed head coach Kevin Stefanski, the vacancy at offensive coordinator, and more. We are now just two months away from the start of the new league year that begins with the NFL draft and free agency. Berry is relentless in his work and he will be ready to once again aggressively upgrade this roster in Cleveland.

Here are the five biggest takeaways from the press conference of the Browns’ general manager and vice president of player personnel.

Joel Bitonio is a believer in the Browns under Kevin Stefanski, Andrew Berry

Things are changing in Cleveland

Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry have the support from the longest-tenured member of the Cleveland Browns in offensive guard Joel Bitonio.

The 2023 season was not like previous ones in Cleveland as the team had every reason to give up several times and that just didn’t happen. Though the ending was tough to watch this team overcame ridiculous amounts of adversity this year and found a way to win 11 games and go to the playoffs.

All-Pro left guard Joel Bitonio on Sunday talked about how he too believes that this isn’t the same old Browns.

“I think Coach Stefanski’s built a culture here. I think Andrew Berry’s built that with the guys he’s brought in. I do think we built something and I hope it’s the star of ‘hey, this is what we do.'”

Bitonio has been around a lot of false hope in Cleveland and has seen plenty of bad cultures so this is high praise from one of the league’s best. There are still roster holes to fix and improvements to be made but the future in Cleveland is very bright despite how this year ended.

GM Andrew Berry leads Browns by example after disappointing loss vs. Texans

Lead by example.

In a display of leadership, general manager Andrew Berry made a point to look every player and coach in the eye after the Cleveland Browns saw their season come to an end against the Houston Texans.

In a video captured by Cleveland News 19’s Ashly Holder, Berry stood at the door of the locker room and did not let a single member of the team pass through without addressing them on their 2023 season. It did not end as the  Browns had hoped after a disappointing showing in the Wild Card round, but foundational blocks continue to be built by Berry and his staff.

The Browns, at the direction of Berry, did not let the injuries that piled up derail their season. The Browns have the right regime in place, and Berry’s leadership is at the forefront of why this team will be around for years to come.

And that’s why Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski will see new contracts come across their desk this offseason.

These are not the Same Old Browns

Not the same old Browns.

These Cleveland Browns, led by head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry, are not the “Same Old Browns.”

Ending the season on a low note, the Houston Texans defeated the Browns in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. It is not how anyone envisioned this 2023 squad ending their season after finishing the year 11-5 and as one of the hottest teams in football.

However, this team, led by this regime, showed nothing but fight, determination, and resiliency this season. Despite losing Nick Chubb, Deshaun Watson, both starting offensive tackles (then the backup right tackle who was playing well), all three of their starting safeties for a large chunk of the season, and more, this Cleveland football team fought until the end of the line week in and week out.

While the sunset on their 2023 season after a loss to the Texans, the dawn is just rising on the long-term future of this organization.

Browns GM Andrew Berry says team will add QB ‘in the near future’

Follow the news that Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of the 2023 season, GM Andrew Berry said the Browns will add another QB.

Browns fans were blindsided Wednesday morning when they learned that quarterback Deshaun Watson will undergo shoulder surgery and miss the remainder of the 2023 season. After the best game of his Browns tenure and fans believing the team is a contender, and it all changed in the blink of an eye.

Speaking with the media following the announcement, general manager Andrew Berry said the team will add another QB in the near future. The biggest question will be are they adding a new player to be the starter or will it just be a depth move?

The Browns should look for a veteran starter. With the way the defense is playing and the pieces around the quarterback, average play is all this team needs. They cannot move forward with P.J. Walker as the starter and think they will be successful. There are not a ton of options out there that make sense, and any addition likely won’t be ready to play this week.

It’s not time to punt on the season just yet but a move absolutely must be made.

Watch: Browns’ player podcast interviews GM Andrew Berry

The Cleveland Browns podcast Dawgs Only hosted by Anthony Walker Jr. and Rodney McLeod Jr. interview General Manager Andrew Berry.

The Cleveland Browns released the latest episode of their player-run podcast Dawgs Only. The podcast featured Anthony Walker Jr. and Rodney McLeod Jr. hosting general manager Andrew Berry. The remixed episode let two veteran leaders ask Berry the questions for the change. It’s not every day one gets to interview the boss, but the duo does a great job of getting to know the man behind the desk. The GM was able to tell the story of his football journey.

The 36-year-old GM found enjoyment in roster construction at a young age after competing against his identical twin brother in fantasy-styled sporting games. Berry’s football journey would take him to Harvard to play cornerback before an unsuccessful tryout in the NFL would push him toward a front-office role. Starting as an office grunt, Berry quickly rose through the ranks of the Colts and Eagles organizations. He shared stories about compiling scouting reports for Peyton Manning in Indianapolis.

Berry spoke a lot about the importance of family in helping him succeed in his career. He made sure to include his former mentor, Howie Roseman, the General Manager of the Eagles, when speaking of family. It’s interesting to hear Berry talk about his close bond with a peer and a professional adversary.

The hour-long chat isn’t always a deep exploration of Andrew Berry’s character. The group had a lot of fun during the discussion. At one point, McLeod and Walker get Andrew Berry to publicly challenge Myles Garrett to a mini-game played in the facility. Myles Garrett would be the last person I want to challenge in any game. But what do I know? I’m not a Harvard graduate. I do know every Browns fan should check out the podcast.
