8 former Eagles are on AFC, NFC Championship rosters

The Philadelphia Eagles have 8 former players playing on AFC and NFC Championship rosters ahead of Sunday’s matchups.

The Eagles are home after a disappointing finish to their season that saw the team lose 6 of their final seven games, including a 32-9 loss to the Buccaneers in the NFC wild-card game.

One big reason for the downward spiral on both sides of the football can be found in free-agent losses that have thrived with other clubs.

As Philadelphia works to hire two new coordinators, eight former Eagles are set to play in the AFC and NFC title games, including two All-Pro caliber talents and one safety who should still be on the roster.

2024 NFL Draft: Final compensatory pick projections for the Eagles

Philadelphia will receive a third-round compensatory pick and three fifth-round compensatory picks, according to Nick Korte of OverTheCap after losing Javon Hargrave, Isaac Seumalo, Andre Dillard and T.J. Edwards in free agency.

The Eagles made several critical signings during the 2023 NFL free agency process, with all of the additions being one-year deals.

Philadelphia GM Howie Roseman watched ten contributors leave on the open market.

Thanks to his shrewd maneuvering and roster building, the Eagles are in line for four valuable compensatory picks in 2024, according to Nick Korte of Over The Cap.

The Birds were slated to have six picks in the 2024 NFL draft, but thanks to the compensatory formula, they’ll have 10.

1 Eagles’ own pick
2 Eagles’ own pick
2 From Saints
3 Projected compensatory pick
5 From Vikings (can become fourth-round pick if conditions are met)
5 From Buccaneers
5 Projected compensatory pick
5 Projected compensatory pick
6 Eagles’ own pick, or the Titans’ sixth-round pick, whichever is better
6 Projected compensatory pick

Here’s an early look at the four compensatory picks and how Philadelphia landed the extra assets.

WATCH: Javon Hargrave compares Eagles chill practice habits to the 49ers hard-nosed style

Former Philadelphia defensive tackle Javon Hargrave gave an insightful look into the difference in practice habits between Eagles and 49ers

The Eagles have grown soft, and a big reason for this late-season collapse could be found in the departures of Javon Hargrave, T.J. Edwards, Marcus Epps, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, among others.

Hargrave took his talents to San Francisco, and with the 49ers now the No. 1 seed in the 2024 playoffs, the talented defensive tackle has had an up-close approach to the inner workings of coaching staff and game week programs.

During a sitdown with Coach_YAC, Hargrave described the Eagles’ love for sports science and compared San Francisco’s approach to Pat Riley’s grind-it-out style with the Miami Heat.

Hargrave compared the Eagles’ weekly “relaxed, chill” approach to that of the Golden State Warriors.

In the Eagle’s defense, the new approach to practice started when Nick Sirianni got the job, and came after three or four years of Philadelphia leading the NFL in soft tissue injuries and having late-season breakdowns in personnel with players consistently on the injury report.

The comments are an indictment of a laid-back approach and a talented team’s ability to turn it on when the lights come on.

The late-season meltdown could change practice habits and do away with the late-season Wednesday walk-throughs.

49ers inactives: DL Javon Hargrave officially IN for 49ers vs. Ravens

Javon Hargrave is IN for the 49ers vs. the Ravens:

The 49ers on Monday made it official that defensive tackle Javon Hargrave will be active for San Francisco in their game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Hargrave was listed as questionable with a hamstring injury that kept him out of the team’s Week 15 win over the Cardinals. He was not among the team’s inactives for Monday night. Here’s who won’t be suiting up:

QB Brandon Allen (QB3)
DT Arik Armstead (foot, knee)
WR Jauan Jennings (concussion)
LB Oren Burks (knee)
TE Ross Dwelley (ankle)
RB Elijah Mitchell (knee)
CB Samuel Womack

Mitchell was also questionable after being limited in the final two practices of the week.

Womack’s healthy scratch is likely due to Burks’ injury, which allows rookie LB Jalen Graham to be in uniform for the third time in as many weeks.

CB Jason Verrett will also be up after being elevated from the practice squad.

Good news for 49ers as DT Javon Hargrave returns to practice

Some good news for the #49ers on the injury front:

The 49ers on Friday got some much-needed positive injury news ahead of their Week 16 bout with the Baltimore Ravens.

Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave was back in practice after missing all of Week 15 and the first session of Week 16. It was only a limited participation for him, but injuries have piled up at DT so getting even a limited practice from Hargrave is significant for the 49ers and could be a sign that he’s angling toward playing Monday night.

Here’s the full participation report from Friday:

Injury Report: 49ers LB Dre Greenlaw (hip), DT Javon Hargrave (hamstring) questionable to return vs. Seahawks

Two key defensive players are listed as questionable to return against the Seahawks.

After losing Charvarious Ward to a groin injury earlier in the game, the San Francisco 49ers were dealt another set of injuries on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

The 49ers will have to close out the Seahawks in a fiesty divisional game with a pair of key defensive players also dealing with injuries. Both Javon Hargrave and Dre Greenlaw are listed as questionable for the 49ers against the Seahawks.

Hargrave exited the game with a hamstring injury, while Greenlaw left the contest due to a hip injury.

Via @jenniferleechan on Twitter:

Without Hargrave, the 49er will lean on Kevin Givens and Javon Kinlaw in the belly of the defense. Rookie linebacker Dee Winters will likely get an increase in playing time against the Seahawks while Greenlaw deals with an injury.

WATCH: Javon Hargrave cooks up Seahawks OL for sack

Javon Hargrave was cooking on this snap to record a sack of Geno Smith.

The 49ers defensive line finally got home for a sack to end the Seahawks fifth possession. Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave blew up the pocket on the interior as defensive ends Chase Young and Nick Bosa collapsed the outsides. Geno Smith hung out in the pocket for awhile, but Hargrave got there for the sack right as Smith started stepping through to escape. Seattle punted for their third time in five series.

Jaguars’ Tyson Campbell, Andre Cisco active vs. 49ers

The Jaguars and 49ers will be close to full strength for their Week 10 meeting.

The Jacksonville Jaguars won’t be hampered much by injuries in a Week 10 game against the San Francisco 49ers. While the team will again be without wide receiver Zay Jones, the team made the returns of cornerback Tyson Campbell and safety Andre Cisco official Sunday.

In the team’s list of inactives, released 90 minutes before kickoff, Jones is the only player out due to injury.

Newly acquired offensive lineman Ezra Cleveland, who was questionable due to a toe injury, is also set to make his Jacksonville debut, although he isn’t expected to be in the starting lineup.

The more consequential injury news of the day is that 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams will play Sunday against the Jaguars.

San Francisco was without Williams and wide receiver Deebo Samuel in the last two games before a Week 9 bye. While Samuel was a full participant in practice this week, Williams sat out Wednesday and was limited both Thursday and Friday. The veteran left tackle was ruled questionable to play.

Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave was also listed as questionable, but is active as well.

49ers injury report: Trent Williams, Javon Hargrave questionable vs. Jaguars

The #49ers injury report for Week 10 is out and it features two key players in the trenches listed as questionable.

The 49ers may have some health issues in the trenches when they face the Jaguars in Week 10.

Left tackle Trent Williams and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave have both been listed as ‘questionable’ on the official status report for Sunday. They’re two of six players officially questionable.

Here’s the full status report:

Out

LG Aaron Banks (toe)
DE Drake Jackson (knee)

Jackson was limited the first two practices of the week and absent Friday before being officially ruled out. Banks is expected to miss a few weeks after injuring his toe in Week 8 before the bye.

Questionable

DE Robert Beal (hamstring)
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (ankle)
DT Javon Hargrave (knee)
CB Darrell Luter (knee)
LT Trent Williams (ankle)
CB Samuel Womack (knee)

It’s unlikely we’ll see any of Beal, Luter or Womack in Week 10 since there’s no room on the roster to activate them and the team has three weeks to decide whether to activate them or place them on season-ending IR.

The knee issue for Hargrave is a little concerning since he was a full participant Wednesday before landing on the practice report as a limited participant the last two days of the week.

Stock up, Stock down in win vs. 49ers

In a signature win against the 49ers, there were still some stocks that fell, but there was a lot of positives from this performance.

“We play our best games against the best teams.”

That’s what Kirk Cousins said in the locker room after a massive 22-17 win against the San Francisco 49ers for the Minnesota Vikings.

There are a few aspects of this game that could have made this a better performance, but this was an overall dominant performance.

And it couldn’t have come at a better time.

We look at some of the players and facets of this game that saw their stocks rise and what facets saw their stock fall after this amazing primetime win.
