Browns bring DE Isaac Rochell back to practice squad after release

The Browns have signed Isaac Rochell back to the practice squad after releasing him from the active roster last week.

After he was released by the Cleveland Browns this past weekend, defensive end Isaac Rochell has now returned to the practice squad. The Browns will not have to clear a space on their reserve unit as the Los Angeles Chargers just took defensive tackle Tyeler Davison off their hands as well. Rochell was waived after the Browns activated running back Jerome Ford off of Injured Reserve ahead of their loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Appearing in six games this season, including significant snaps against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons, and New England Patriots, Rochell has not been a factor on the defensive side of the football. He has racked up just six pressures this season, adding two hits on the quarterback and a tackle for loss.

Browns make flurry of roster moves on heels of matchup vs. Dolphins

The Browns have made a flurry of roster moves on the eve of their matchup with the Miami Dolphins

The Cleveland Browns are set to take on the Miami Dolphins tomorrow, looking to continue to climb back from a 2-5 start. After a Halloween win over the Cincinnati Bengals, they now look to make it two in a row against the Dolphins in South Beach.

On the eve of this matchup, however, the Browns have made a slew of roster moves. One player has been waived, one activated from Injured Reserve, another signed to the active roster from the practice squad, and two elevated from the practice squad for the matchup.

We take a look at each of these moves and address their significance.

Browns name 7 inactives including WR Anthony Schwartz vs. Ravens

The Browns have released their seven inactives vs. the Baltimore Ravens, and second-year wide receiver Anthony Schwartz is among them

The Cleveland Browns have announced their seven inactives for today’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. While the majority are not too big of a surprise, the Browns have, however, listed second-year wide receiver Anthony Schwartz as inactive as well.

The other six names include the injured Denzel Ward, Wyatt Teller, Isaac Rochell, and Joe Haeg. Third-string quarterback Kellen Mond continues to be inactive as well, joined by veteran offensive lineman Chris Hubbard.

Listing five inactives themselves, cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis, wide receiver Tylan Wallace, running back Mike Davis, linebacker A.J. Klein, and guard Ben Cleveland will not suit up for the Ravens.

Browns rule out Wyatt Teller, Denzel Ward vs. Ravens

The Browns will be without three starters against the Ravens

As the Cleveland Browns look to get back on track against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday, they will be without three starters as guard Wyatt Teller and cornerback Denzel Ward have been ruled out. Reserve offensive lineman Joe Haeg has also been ruled out with a concussion as well.

Cornerbacks Martin Emerson and Greedy Williams will once again fill in for Ward and Hjalte Froholdt will fill in for Teller at right guard. Defensive ends Jadeveon Clowney and Isaac Rochell has also been listed as questionable.

It looks, however, like the Browns will get linebacker Deion Jones back to make his debut in the brown and orange. After two full weeks of practice, the coaching staff is optimistic about his communication style and ability to contribute early on.

4 Big takeaways from snap counts in Browns vs. Falcons

What can we pull away from the snap count totals from Browns vs. Falcons?

This might be the wackiest-looking snap count the Cleveland Browns have ever had to navigate. As the Browns lost to the Atlanta Falcons, they had to get creative with their defensive personnel. With an injury-riddled defensive line, we were bound to see some high numbers from players who played more snaps than they ever should have. Which was certainly the case in this one.

The OBR’s Anthony Reinhard does a fantastic job week in and week out of breaking down snaps by drive and total snap counts for the Browns. There are some interesting observations that arise when looking over this data.

First, let’s take a look at the snap count totals.

Browns sign LB Jordan Kunaszyk and DE Isaac Rochell to active roster

After putting two on IR yesterday, the Cleveland Browns have signed Isaac Rochell and Jordan Kunaszyk to their active roster.

After the Cleveland Browns were forced to place defensive end Chase Winovich and tight end Jesse James on Injured Reserve yesterday, they opened up two roster spots on their active roster. Today they have filled those two spots by signing linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk and edge rusher Isaac Rochell of of the Practice Squad.

Both Kunaszyk and Rochell made the initial 53-man roster before being cut due to some late additions to the roster that included the signing of James and the claiming of quarterback Kellen Mond. With Jadeveon Clowney already announced as out, and with Myles Garrett potentially missing the game as well, Rochell may even be in line for the start tomorrow night when the Browns take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Browns elevate 2 from practice squad, WR Michael Woods II out against Panthers

Two up from the practice squad, both had made the team’s initial 53-man, and Woods out for the game today:

After what seemed like the long offseason in Cleveland Browns history, we have finally made it to Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season. A lot will be talked about after this week’s slate of games, especially in relation to QB Baker Mayfield, but today is only one of 17 games this season.

For the Browns, the season will be split up into segments of 11 games and the final six games with Jacoby Brissett leading one the first and Deshaun Watson leading the second.

For Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland has elevated two players cut after the initial 53-man roster:

  • DE Isaac Rochell
  • LB Jordan Kunaszyk

Rochell can rotate inside and on the edge while Kunaszyk will likely be used on special teams.

Those two elevations mean two other players will be inactive.

One of those inactive players will be WR Michael Thomas II who was ruled out by the team due to his ongoing hamstring issues. Thomas missed a lot of time late in training camp but was not placed on injured reserve.

We will keep you up to date on everything Browns this morning as we ramp up to kickoff. The official inactive list should come out around 11:30 AM.

Browns bring back Rochell, Rosen to practice squad

Rochell’s return is exciting, Rosen’s return is surprising leaving just two spots left on the practice squad currently:

The Cleveland Browns roster under GM Andrew Berry has always been very fluid. Berry likes to “churn the bottom of the roster” to try to find the right fit, try to find lightning in a bottle and try to develop physically gifted players.

In a little over 24 hours, Berry has set the team’s initial 53-man roster, claimed QB Kellen Mond, tried to get TE Trevon Wesco, waived DE Isaac Rochell and signed 12 players to the practice squad, bringing them back from their training camp roster.

With four spots left to fill on the team’s practice squad, Berry brought back two more familiar faces on Thursday with Rochell and QB Josh Rosen being added:

The return of Rochell provides more depth on the defensive line. The veteran played well in preseason and showed the versatility to slide inside when needed.

The return of Rosen is a bit more surprising. Mond was added as the team’s third quarterback behind Jacoby Brissett and Joshua Dobbs. Rosen gives the team four quarterbacks to work with in practice which is a bit unusual once training camp rosters are sliced down.

With the return of Rosen and Rochell, Cleveland still has two practice squad spots available. So far, Mond is the only external player brought into either the 53-man roster or the practice squad.

Eagles placed claim on QB Kellen Mond as well

A third-round pick that one of the best-run franchises in the league also placed a claim on are good starting points for hope that Mond can bring value to the Browns:

The addition of QB Kellen Mond through a waiver claim was seen as a very interesting decision by the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday. Not only did that lead to the release of DE Isaac Rochell after a very good preseason but it added a player who struggled.

Not only did Mond struggle in the preseason with the Minnesota Vikings but he struggled in a similar offensive system and was cut by Kwesi Adofo-Mensah who left the Browns front office to run the Vikings.

An added piece of information came Wednesday night that adds to the connectivity related to Mond. The Philadelphia Eagles, where Cleveland’s GM Andrew Berry worked before returning to run the Browns, also put a claim in on Mond:

The Eagles have built a solid team around QB Jalen Hurts but are always looking to add talent, especially at the most important position in the league.

While nothing is certain when it comes to Mond’s development, a third-round pick that one of the best run teams in the league wanted to add are good starting points. If Mond can become a solid backup behind Watson for a couple of years or have trade value after the 2023 season, he’ll be well worth losing Rochell.
