NFL draft history: Every player selected with the 10th overall pick since 2000

We’re looking at every No. 10 overall pick selected since the 2000 NFL Draft and the Philadelphia Eagles’ chances of landing an impact player

The Eagles need impact players on both sides of the ball, and with two first-round picks in this month’s draft, Howie Roseman will have another opportunity to add depth to a Super Bowl-caliber roster.

Top ten picks are expected to be dynamic players, and the list of No. 10 overall selections has a handful of misses, along with several hits and a few Hall of Fame-worthy performers.

With the NFL draft fast approaching, we’re looking at every player selected with the tenth pick since 2000.

Explaining the rookie quarterback development clock

The allure of a rookie quarterback is always there. @TheKevinFielder breaks down the different approaches used over the last few years

If you’ve consumed any NFL media during the off-season, you’ve likely heard of the “QB developmental clock.”

The concept might sound foreign, but it’s simple to understand. As the theory goes, having a quarterback on his rookie-scale contract is valuable. It allows teams to build the team in different ways and opens up a better pathway to success.

For some, this concept is a crutch. There’s a belief among some that you can only win if you have either a young quarterback on a cheap contract or a superhuman signal-caller with an alien-like ability (see: Patrick Mahomes).

As the Minnesota Vikings enter the offseason, his concept will become a talking point. Kirk Cousins is at the tail end of his career, and he’s a free agent in 2024. In a way, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell can begin a new clock by drafting a rookie quarterback and riding with the youth.

The question now becomes: how viable of a strategy is this, and how does it help in team building?

Regarding viability, another question is if Minnesota should pursue such an idea or offer Cousins an extension.

Vikings news roundup: Car crashes, comebacks, and power rankings

There was a lot of news on Tuesday. Get yourself caught up

We are now four days removed from the Minnesota Vikings’ historic come-from-behind 39-36 victory over the Indianapolis Colts and I am still giddy about it.

The Vikings have been a team that is consistently inconsistent this season. They have moments where they look dominant but struggle stopping the opposing offense more often than not.

Tuesday brought a lot of news from multiple places. Get yourself caught up with a full news roundup.

Vikings sign QB Josh Rosen to the practice squad

The Vikings fortified their quarterback depth

After the Minnesota Vikings had quarterback David Blough signed off of their practice squad, they had both a need at quarterback and had a spot open on their practice squad. They filled it on Tuesday by signing former first-round pick quarterback Josh Rosen to their practice squad.

The 10th overall pick in the 2018 draft, Rosen only played one season with the Arizona Cardinals, but he struggled enough for them to get the first overall pick and they chose to move on by drafting Kyler Murray.

He was traded to the Miami Dolphins for the 64th overall pick during the 2019 NFL draft and has since bounced around the league playing for a total of seven NFL franchises.

In his career, Rosen has played in 24 games. He has a 3-13 record as a starter with 2,864 yards passing, 12 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

Will this make any kind of impact for the Vikings? I sincerely doubt it, but it’s good to have a backup with any sort of experience.

Browns Morning Roundup: Watson returns, Jones arrives, Rosen cut

Yesterday was a pretty busy day in Browns news, so catch up here!

Yesterday was a pretty eventful one in Berea, Ohio as the Cleveland Browns saw the return of a player, welcomed a new player onto the team, and made some roster moves to make room for that player. Additionally, the Browns Wire team brought an article over the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers as well.

Injury reports will start filing in tomorrow, so today should be a pretty news-unworthy day, but you can never be too sure. This team has a way of making the uneventful actions eventful.

Before we get caught up in today’s action, however, here is what you missed from yesterday in Browns-related news.

Browns waive TE Miller Forristall, release QB Josh Rosen from practice squad

The Browns have cleared up a roster spot by waiving tight end Miller Forristall. Quarterback Josh Rosen has also been released from the PS.

After trading for linebacker Deion Jones, the Cleveland Browns had to clear a roster spot on their 53-man roster. They have done so by waiving tight end Miller Forristall.

This writing was on the wall after the Browns signed Pharaoh Brown last week, and after Forristall did not play a single offensive snap in the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Additionally, the Browns have released former first round quarterback Josh Rosen from their practice squad. With Deshaun Watson returning to the building, perhaps the Browns felt they only needed four quarterbacks in meeting rooms. They also tried out former Dallas Cowboy Ben DiNucci las week as well.

Browns bring back Rochell, Rosen to practice squad

Rochell’s return is exciting, Rosen’s return is surprising leaving just two spots left on the practice squad currently:

The Cleveland Browns roster under GM Andrew Berry has always been very fluid. Berry likes to “churn the bottom of the roster” to try to find the right fit, try to find lightning in a bottle and try to develop physically gifted players.

In a little over 24 hours, Berry has set the team’s initial 53-man roster, claimed QB Kellen Mond, tried to get TE Trevon Wesco, waived DE Isaac Rochell and signed 12 players to the practice squad, bringing them back from their training camp roster.

With four spots left to fill on the team’s practice squad, Berry brought back two more familiar faces on Thursday with Rochell and QB Josh Rosen being added:

The return of Rochell provides more depth on the defensive line. The veteran played well in preseason and showed the versatility to slide inside when needed.

The return of Rosen is a bit more surprising. Mond was added as the team’s third quarterback behind Jacoby Brissett and Joshua Dobbs. Rosen gives the team four quarterbacks to work with in practice which is a bit unusual once training camp rosters are sliced down.

With the return of Rosen and Rochell, Cleveland still has two practice squad spots available. So far, Mond is the only external player brought into either the 53-man roster or the practice squad.

Bears vs. Browns: Everything we know about the Bears’ preseason finale win

The Bears finish the preseason undefeated, beating the Browns 21-20 on Saturday evening. We break down the game here:

The preseason has come to an end for the Chicago Bears and they leave with an undefeated record. The Bears held on to defeat the Cleveland Browns 21-20 to finish the preseason 3-0. Head coach Matt Eberflus had his starters play for most of the first half and they put on a show.

Quarterback Justin Fields was masterful, throwing three touchdowns to account for all of Chicago’s points. He threw passes to tight ends Ryan Griffin and Cole Kmet, as well as wide receiver Dante Pettis. He missed just two passes on the day and showed out at the place where it all went wrong during his regular season debut last year.

The Browns didn’t give up, however, and hit a pair of field goals to trim the lead to 21-6 at the end of the first half. Then things got dicey beginning in the fourth quarter when reserve quarterbacks Joshua Dobbs and Josh Rosen each scored to bring the Browns within one point. Instead of kicking the extra point on the final score, however, the Browns elected to try and take the lead with a two-point conversion that failed.

The offense looked impressive, the defense was stifling, and most important, there were no major injuries as the Bears get ready for the regular season. Here’s everything we know at the conclusion of the preseason.

Jimmy Garoppolo trade market takes hit after Josh Rosen signs with Browns

The Browns signed a former #49ers QB, which is a further signal in their disinterest in a current 49ers QB.

The 49ers and their quest to trade quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo have gotten bad news on the Cleveland Browns front in consecutive days. First, the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot reported the Browns don’t have any interest in trading for the 49ers’ QB. Then Thursday they signed journeyman signal caller Josh Rosen.

Rosen joining the Browns isn’t a direct signal that Cleveland doesn’t want Garoppolo. That’s to say they weren’t choosing between those two players. However, the addition of Rosen gives them four QBs on their roster. He’ll join Deshaun Watson, Jacoby Brissett and Josh Dobbs. That group would indicate that in the event of a Watson suspension, Brissett would work as the QB1 while Dobbs and Rosen battled for the QB2 job.

Of course, all of this could change should Watson be suspended for a substantial length of time. Cleveland may be okay with Brissett as their QB1 for six or eight games. Perhaps they’ll feel differently if that number climbs to 10 or beyond.

Their interest could also be piqued if he becomes a free agent where they don’t have to unload draft compensation to acquire him. For now all signs point to the Browns having no interest in trading for Garoppolo, including the addition of Rosen in an already crowded QB room.

Browns add QB Josh Rosen before training camp opens

A former first-round pick, Rosen’s career has struggled greatly since entering the league in the same draft as former Browns QB Baker Mayfield:

The Cleveland Browns have made another move at the quarterback position. With Baker Mayfield with the Carolina Panthers and Deshaun Watson facing the possibility of a suspension, Jacoby Brissett and Josh Dobbs were the only certainties at the most important position in the NFL.

With an earlier report that the team may be looking at adding a backup quarterback, we took a look at the limited options still available this close to training camp.

Earlier today, the team had brought in Josh Rosen and A.J. McCarron for a workout as they looked for another arm for camp. Rosen must have performed better than McCarron as the team will be signing him to the roster:

Rosen was drafted in the same first round as Mayfield but has bounced around to a number of teams. He has played in 24 games, 14 as a rookie with the Arizona Cardinals, completing just 54% of his passes. His 12 touchdown to 21 interception ratio is another concerning statistic.

While Rosen is a known name, he has an uphill battle to make the team and turn his career around with the Browns in 2022.
